Net code discussion. Rollback confirmed!

I totally agree with far distance games beeing much better in SFV. What I’ve tried to say a few times - and gotten shit loads of disagrees for, LOL - is that when the connection is good in SFIV, it’s not ANY worse than the best SFV has given me, if it’s not better.

I swear I don’t think I have ever posted on SRK without a typo. (Using iphone, but still).

Hey someone only getting match with their own country? it’s hell of anoying because even with other countries i get good ping and all but there’s like no one playing the game in my country so i can’t find any match for like 15-30 minutes
capcom will fix this or what?

The netcode is fantastic. Go play SFxT and every match will have some sort of lag in it. Hell, there wasn’t a single time where an intro DIDN’T lag. And that was just the beginning. Here…SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. Like huge a improvement. It’s not even a contest.

You think a fighting game wouldn’t use a locked 60?

Rollback is infinitely better by the way, SFxT made a valiant effort to include rollback in a modern game but I don’t think the PS3/360 were capable of it (which of course meant the PC version got dragged back down into delay thanks to bullshit).

the game use fix frame rate.
I know because qi use fraps and i can see the I a m blocked at 60 frames with no move at all.
the introp before the fight there is do frame movement. going down to 30. but as soon as u are ready to fight it go up to a fixed 60 frame.

more than the network being good, it s the design of the game that make the ewperience enjoyable.
the buffer help a lot fot the combo.

So I realized that you can see connection bars before a match if you turn on the match search settings on the main menu with the options button. Every match I get is one bar even with the search set to 4-5. I don’t understand. Lol

Told ya’ll something was up.

I sometimes got 4 bar notifications, but they were mostly 1 bar. They were all pretty much flawless, though. I think I had 2 matches with any kind of lag.

The netcode seems random. I dont know what info it gets to decide the rollbacks for the match. It happens so often: I play a game against a friend, the conection is perfect for both players (we ask eachother after the match), then we are rematched and the match have a ridiculous rollback for one or both players.

About the matchmaker, its retarded, completely. Capcom doesnt uses the RTT (ping) between the players to define the quality of the connection of the match, they go for the locations the player’s IP are registered. Thats ridiculous because its very unacurate and it doesnt takes into account the routes between these 2 ips. Brazil is a big country with very few Internet exchange point and thats usually the case for many other big countries. So, the game, looking at my ip, thinks Im 3500km away from my current location because it is registered as being in another city of brazil that also is attended by my ISP. The other problem with that model is that 2 players that are physically near each other may have huge response times (ping) between them because the data packets sent by a player may have to travel around the whole country in order to reach the other player. Once they are registered at the same city, the game will match them when you ask for good quality connections only.

Happily its not an issue for the ones who wishes to use the online to train seriously. Unless Capcom uses the rankings to define invites for important tournaments.

The only match I got that wasn’t a one bar was a 3 bar match against a Ken and it turned underwater into the second round. I wish I knew what was up. I never had it consistently this bad before.

Those “bars” displayed are also not acurate at all. I played many times with a friend of mine and the game aways shows the conection between us as “1 bar”. Our response time while pinging each other is 10ms.

2 weeks left…

Only difference I notice between rollback and SF4 connection is that in roll back medium to shit connections are unplayable. Perfect connections in SF4 and SF5 feel the same to me but at least in SF4 yellow to red bars can be played to a degree. Which sucks because I know I won’t be playing with any of my friends from SF4 in SF5 who had yellow bars because it’s literally impossible to play with the teleporting.

I set my battle settings to 4-5 bar matches only and got Japan/Korea matches only. Even with me being on wifi it felt perfect. That’s impressive considering wifi is terrible for me in the states no matter what usually.

I will go out and say that the netcode is pretty amazing. Best online experience Ive had in fighting games in a long time

But every now and then… you get these guys…

I actually had some completely fine games with some people, matched up with them again withing the next 20 minutes and it was 5 rollbacks per second nuttiness with input drops everywhere.

I think there is some desynching issue going on.

Netcode is good, matchmaking needs work.

It’s not matchmaking, I was matched up against multiple people in my city who I’ve played many games with before and received powerpoint presentations, full screen teleports and 1 input being registered per second.

So it’s exactly like SF4’s online then. Lol
