I’m looking for either a program that will let me extract sound effects from nes roms or a data base of some kind that has sounds to download. I’m not interested in the actual music which you can get quite redily. All I want are the sound effects, speciafically from the castlevania games.
But that was a couple of years ago. I’m not that up to date, but that’s what I use. It emulates the sound part of NES Roms, but I think you need a specific file type. Yes, that includes sound effects.
Look for .nsf files.
You use Meridian to play the sounds and music and what not, but you’ll need a recording program if you want to convert it to mp3 or wav or whatever.
If you are using a program like fruity loops or reasons, then you should be able to find the sound files that you need or make your own. If you are using Fruityloops, then you should do a search for triangle and square samples. That is what the sound files used to create NES music is made from. If you are using Reasons, then you want to look for refills of the same type.
thanks guys, I have audacity so I could record stuff if I could access the samples in any form really. I’m going to go check out tha meridian prog.
EDIT: Just got hold of XX.nsf and when it loads in meridian all I get is the soundtrack, no sound effects. Do I need to find a certain type of .nsf file or is another player needed?
EDIIT: Coolio just got it sorted. That NSF player is great and comes highly recommended. You can remove certain channels of the track so you can just listen to the bass or the drum track for example. It turns out I just needed a different XX.nsf file that included the actual sound effects.
