NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (NGBC) Thread

wtf that’s my team. It’s odd enough seeing someone play Shiki.

For now just try forming a team with characters you like then go into training mode and practice combos

Thanks for the matches, purify.

I am freeeeeeeeeeeetos.

Would’ve probably got me if you just kept doing the Akari crossup, lol I didn’t block that even once…I don’t know that character very well.

Lag messed me up a few times but it was mostly good. I played for most of the night and I think I was the only person doing D. Assaults lol. Reminds me, Akari’s is good cause she does that quick roll across the ground and covers a lot of space. Different characters have varying speed/range/hitboxes on their DAs. They also do other random helpful things…like get rid of Marco’s prisoner guy (the speedlines and blue shit scares him away).

lol, I kept missing A, command grab off her cross up j.D somehow. D:

You mean on block, or what? You don’t have a guaranteed command grab, do you? That’d be fucked up.

I meant combo. She gets A, command grab combo for free if she lands a j.D cross up.

Now that I think of it, I guess Mr. Big’s 2 bar super is technically a command grab, and he can combo into that. WTF is going on in this game? Never heard of a game where you can combo into grabs before lol.

So basically you’re saying you’ve never played any SNK game, ever.

ive got a few characters, hows neo dio? is that a boss character who wouldnt be considered tournament legal? just saying lol not like there are tourneys.

and is ACcancelling worth it? 1super meter for a cancel from one normal to another?

for combos, it really depends on the character. but for the most part, it allows you to bait out a guard cancel and maintain pressure even if they didn’t do one.

robert has a cool combo with it in the corner:

close D (1 hit) AB, b+C, crouch C, B flashkick, B flashkick or sdm

that sounds sick, does b+c launch? and do you have to hit cr.c when theyre still in the air?

and how do d-assualt(qcf+e) work? i dont get the use for them

Hey I just got this today, played a few matches online. I’ll hopefully be putting some time into learning it (need break from SF2 and SSF4 sucks, LOL) so I’ll be looking to get schooled online.

Is it normal for a lot of the games to end in time-outs or am I just turtling to much (I know KOF is a rush-down game and this seems to be as well)? I do know that I need to learn ways to land big damage when I get an opening.

Nor has he played SF4…dude is a complete noob.

K, so now I have couple match-up questions.

I generally always run Hotaru with a combination of Chonrei/Athena/Kisarah/Moriya. Currently having rage inducing match-ups vs Marco. Here’s a couple of tendencies I picked up on. Fullscreen Marco will simply throw grenades, as anti-air and have one out lying on the ground. At this point, it’s near impossible to get inside. Add in the fact that he throws out that exploding car that hits low and my life is fucked. His corner pressure is also very strong. Let’s say he doesn’t throw a grenade for once, his rocket shoot rapes jumps and run ins and is also very hard to GCF punish.

He can jump back with gunshots if manage to SJ in (because I can’t necessarily just run in and trying to LP+LK through shit is just a bad idea) and if I’m close, I can’t really do much if he’s throwing a grenade. I can’t challenge those grenades fullscreen because sometimes it acts as bait for the red spit super. Worse yet, if Marco gets close and shoots the gun, he goes into combat stance with the knife which does a couple of things:
a) Does beastly damage
b) Hard to GCF (because of C)
c) He can vary his strings to throw your options off
d) It fucks your guard too
e) If you are in corner and Kamehameha man is out, FML

So, what the fuck do I do in this match up? I’ve tried lots of things, but its really hard to win. He just has so many ways to keep me out and once he gets in, he just keeps me guarding with mad bullshit.

Here is video of said Marco:

Another thing, when Shermie does a meaty on you, and she just does that gatling string, can you tell whether or not the dashing command grab will get you? I don’t like not knowing and just jumping away like an idiot every time.

Also, I can’t seem to do Hotaru’s 2A 3C 5D (A+B) 3C JD consistently anymore, I am unable to jump after the juggle 3C majority of the time. Like, I hit the 3C and I press up and I just can’t jump. I’ve tried down+up, I’ve tried all sorts of other things, and I don’t remember it being too complicated, but I can’t do it consistently anymore. Was there something else I needed to do?

Thanks.

You didn’t use AB step even once. There’s a reason AB step was added to the game as a new option from just GCFS. Because some things you really don’t want to have to block.

Also, with Hanzo, you really don’t have to play the full-screen zoning game with Marco at all. You have Instant Air Teleport, Double Shuriken, Shuriken Supers to deal with grenades.

In close range situations, you are wanting to land the knockdown, or AB step into throw to get Marco the fuck off. Marco in knife stance, especially in the corner, is pretty unfuckable. Don’t try to fight at close range, create some distance and keep from fighting in the corner to begin with.

Marco’s anti-air is pretty limited and he’s got pretty much nothing to stop cross-ups or jump-ins after being knocked down.
That’s the best time to start pressuring Marco before he can set-up his grenade traps or knife-stance strings.

Ooh, I like that vid. I’ve rarely seen good Marco’s in this game, so I appreciate this. Quick question, is Goodman still retardedly overpowered or did they fix him a bit?

can’t be afraid to sidestep the grenades and shit when neutral. i highly recommend you get used to gcfs-ing that rocket jump. you can make it a major liability, especially with the way he’s using it in those vids (but DON’T do it if he did B version iron lizard beforehand). and yeah marco is pretty un-fuck-wit-able when he corners you. your best bet is sidestep to make a far C whiff for big damage or gcfs a knife stance qcf+P. if you land a hit and PoW is out, combo into DA to get him off the screen. when you get in, it gets pretty bad for marco. you can abuse him as long as you don’t get overzealous with the strings when he has meter. and vs people in general that tend to guard E in predictable ways, you need to throw in baits with attack cancel AB (its not invincible, but you can block out of it, or continue pressure if you guessed wrong).

as for hotaru jump cancel. you need to press the button at the same time that you press up.

nope he’s the same, and not usable online.

lol yeah SNK games almost always have combos into command grabs. That’s in XII and XIII too. sometimes, command grabs even have invincibility (98UM Krauser).

To they guy asking about timeovers and the guy asking about D. Assaults: these questions are related. If you hit D. Assaults, the other guy’s red life empties, which probably means that you just shortened the match because they’re not getting the life back. High damage combos are one thing, but they usually leave a lot of red, and if the other person can safely tag out after your super (which is often the case because the super might reset positioning or leave in you recovery long enough for them to tag), you’ll find that a combo that leaves you in good positioning to then do a D. Assault combo > big damage level 2 combo that leaves you on the other side of the screen near the beginning of the match. Of course, all characters are different, but it’s something to think about.

Further, D. Assaults do give your other character a damage increase, which also basically shortens the match, granted you land a hit. Their character with less red + your character with higher damage = them dying sooner. Time Overs will happen regardless, I’ve seen a lot of them, and they don’t necessarily mean you’re “doing it wrong”, but there are ways for you to take advantage of this instead of it screwing you over and secure your life while keeping them from getting theirs. Combo > D. Assault > turtle until you need to get a life lead again is viable, especially with GCFS.

Yeah, knife stance Marco > Marco anywhere else. Shiki: pretty sure that wasn’t AG playing.

The truth.
