I believe the industry standard (for North America) is Happ Competition joysticks.
The right player stick (competiton) on my cab was very loose when I got it. I got tired of using it so I ended up playing right side of the cab for a while, until I decided to not be so lazy and switch the left/right joysticks.
I just installed two competition sticks in my cab. I can pull off moves more consistently, but I feel like the sticks need to loosen up a bit before they’re primed. Is this so? They feel a bit stiff, and I’m not sure how much adjusting I need to do myself, as opposed to my sticks doing the adjusting
All you gotta do is use em, and they’ll start to feel less stiff with a bit of time.
I “think” there are softer springs you can get for Happ sticks, although I’m not 100% sure on that. Personally, I like a bit of tension. Too loose is a problem for me.
Thank you (yet again), Grim. I’ve found, also, that my timing with the Iori chain was off. On my console ports of KOF, I can just qcb+p three times rapidly and pull it off. I don’t know if it’s the arcade version itself, or just KOF 98 itself (I only had DM99 on DC and disliked Iori back then), but the qc’s have to be timed correctly, it would seem. The first two can be done in rapid succession, but the third has to be done at just the right moment.
I don’t mind it much, but I’m kind of hoping I can go back to spamming it easily when I pick up '03.
I’f it’s any consolation, I still struggle with my quarter and half circles using my Happ sticks in my neo geo cab. I tend to pull those off a lot easier on jap hardware. I’ll finally get around to picking up some replacement sticks on the next Akihabara order.
Edit: And thanks to ost3go, I’ll actually be able to mount them in my cab using his custom designed happ-seimitsu mounting plate designes. He’s a top notch guy, keep an eye open for him!
