I just got a new computer (2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64) and for some reason whenever I play online on kaillera the screen skips and the sound is distorded…whats weird is that when playing solo it runs fine.
I know the problem is not lag because I have a ping in the mid 30s and the chracters react at the touch of the button so wtf’s going on?
Are you downloading or have IM open, or doing anything else (such as playing via wireless internet, or on a network where somebody else might be downloading) that would be screwing your bandwidth? You can have great ping, but if bandwidth is limited, gameplay will be crap online.
I’m sorry to say, but ~570kbps is not that great…especially for cable. I’ve got a 3mbps/768kbps connection, and as long as I’m the only one online, then it’s fine with pings up to ~100ms. As soon as my fiance gets online and starts checking PM or e-mail or whatever, it starts lagging miserably (choppy gameplay, frames and sound). Is that what you’re experiencing? If so, then it’s the connection.
You might want to do a virus scan, run adaware and Spybot S&D, as well…just to be safe. You would expect a new computer to not have anything malicious on it, but if you happened to pick something up while downloading the emu and/or roms, this could be a direct result.
First off, make sure you’re using Mame32k 0.64
Second, try these settings:
1024x768 NOT Fullscreen (Full screen has lots of problems, especially online)
2x Zoom
75% Horizontal Scanlines
Stretch x3
Wait V’Sync on for windowed
Sound options: Everything checked, make sure the bit-rate is set to 44, 000 kHZ.
Forgot about this. At the very least, make sure you are using the same emu as the other player. Have you tried playing solo online? Possibly it was the other guy crapping up the connection?
