Need a replacement USB chord

Hello SRK,

As the title says, I need a replacement USB chord for my fightstick. I left it out for my dog to chew right through it.

I was planning on using the one from focusattack.com http://www.focusattack.com/15-foot-male-a-b-usb-2-0-cable/ . The plan was to cut off the back and solder to wires to my PCB just like how the original one was done. Would this work?

yes the same with any other cord with a usb type A end. you might haveone around the house( i have some from old printers and such).
You could also just go to an electronics store if you have one near you and get one today so you dont have to wait.

USB cords arent really special so you dont really need to order online unless it is part of another order.

Just like sikwidit suggested, you can go get one from Frys or Microcenter, heck even RadioShack should have usb cords.

so I am leaving this here.

The idea is to point people with USB cable problems back to instead of typing a whole lot of stiff for a small and common issue. I figure I stick it inside of this thread as its a related issue and this thread already sticked in the lists of Guides and FAQs

It is more likely there is a break inside your USB cable than your PCB being fried.
I can tell you now the controller is powering on if the lights are flashing, even if its a “millisecond” at a time.
You PC actually detecting a device although the computer states “USB device is not recognized” means the stick is getting power but data isn’t being send back and forth.

It is more likely that the data - or data + lines are broken somewhere.

Here is a quick guide showing the 4 wires in a USB cable are

Note the D- or Data - wire is white and D+ or Data + wire is Green.

Trick now is finding where that USB break is.
The Easy way to fix this is to replace the whole cable. Now for that ANY USB CABLE with a USB Type a Male end would work. The other end does not matter as were clipping that end off any ways. Get a cable that is atleast 10 feet long as you want a good amount of distance from your self and the console.

For your stick I suggest opening up the stick and making the repair inside of the stick. Also include some cable strain release tie a knot in the section of new cable in the inside of the case, so that the cable it self can not get pulled out of your stick case.

To prevent this in the future stop wrapping your USB cable around your stick when you are done with it. Tightly wounding the cable around your stick over stretches the wires inside and eventually leads to a break. Loosely coil or loop your usb cable Like you would a garden hose or extension cord. when you are done and tie it in place using a velco strap. There are velcro straps made just for ting up electric and computer cables.
