Need a little guidance

I’ve been “studying” MvC3 for about a month (watching tourneys and visiting the SRK guide religiously) and I recently bought the game.

I’m a little lost as to what to learn and what characters have synergy.

Thanks to whatever help I get!!

Oh man, if only we had a wiki for this sort of thing…

Oh wait, yeah we do!

Join the superior Viewtiful Joe players!

Before you learn any advanced offensive options (besides pressing an attack button), learn to block and move around the screen!

that’s what i’ve been saying
i’ve been reading SRK’s wiki for it, but it feels soo weird actually doing it knowing i have trigger-happy fingers and often suffer from rage-quit
i’ve played some online games and lost a few with Wolverine/Ryu/She-Hulk

but i’ll give Joe a go

Yep generally in a fighting game you want to learn things in this order:

 1. Moving/Spacing
 2. Blocking
 3. Attacking
 4. Execution
 5. Advanced combos
 6. Mixups/Mindgames

My advice is to hang around the MVC3 character forums for your team.

Hope that helps

While you can’t expect to gain your core playing ability overnight, my advice would be just practice with characters on the roster (this is if the SRK wiki option is already exhausted). You’ll get a feel for certain characters, some more than others, seeing as everybody has their own tastes and style. Then once you get a feel for a few characters, start to test out team integrity. Ask yourself questions like:
[]What kind of team am I trying to achieve? (Rushdown? Spacing/Keepaway? Balanced?)
[
]What character order should I have? Who should lead at point?

What assists go well with my active character?
These questions aren’t imperative by any means, but may help you assemble your team. Once you think you have a solid team, just practice practice practice. You’ll learn the ins and outs of your 3-man wrecking crew, and if they aren’t quite what you’re looking for, you can always try out another team. Rinse and repeat this until you have a team that you think you can stick with, and then just practice once again.

Maybe this is nowhere near the quickest process, but it seems like the most thorough.

I forgot to mention this but the following video is really helpful. 1 hour and 44 minutes of Mike Ross/Clockw0rk goodness.

that’s a good vid. I’m going to show this to my friend.

thanks
I remember seeing that vid a while ago and didn’t understand a DAMN thing they were saying
i just mimic what they do (what I do with most fighting games, especially SSF4)

We’re not really up, yet (The idea just started yesterday), but I hope we will soon.
Chances are, the more people asking for help, the more people willing to help will come.
So, at least post your name and problems.

Level Up Your Game did a Marvel video? :open_mouth: I know what I’ll be doing today. Rip and friends’ Tekken 6 videos helped me a ton in my understanding of the game. I imagine the same will be true here.
