I’m just coming back to Necalli after playing Boxer for the past 6 months. You document was really helpful. Thanks dude.
So what the fuck do i do against Karin?
Holy shit
jump a lot. spam close vskill too
Well, I still struggle with this, but not as much now that I’ve seen how crouching jab stuffs the vast majority of her rekka mix-up. At a higher level I’m noticing how folks do a lot less of the mix-up, and just zone me out with her much better range pokes. At that point, I can only suggest working on getting your v-trigger before moving in on her. Just become a wall… one that throws out ground pounds whenever it’s semi-safe. It is hard to do anything on reaction in this game, but stuffing her approaches with Dp, or Hk, or J.Hk are great. If she doesn’t have meter or you don’t expect a reversal be sure to take advantage of opportunities to get in.
I hate to admit it but I struggle hard against Ryus for the moment. He has as much life as us and certainly hits as hard. My struggle is reduced to one single thing: anti air him consistently. How do you AA jump happy Ryus? Good ones are going to alternate jumping LK, HK and HP and the timing seems to vary especially with j. HP which hits way sooner than the kicks.
EDIT: is it me or Necalli’s AA jab isn’t as good as advertised? Although it can hit characters which are going to land in front on you, those are by far the less threatening jump ins. Characters right above you or cross ups tend to trade often and cr. HP is also irregular at that position.
I decided to test the idea that Balrog is a strictly better Necalli and so far no good. Like Balrog normals, though longer reaching, are slow and pressure can’t be mantained that much. V-skill into V-trigger may be good but still a once per round trick. I’d rather have a character whose game plan doesn’t revolve into capitalizing one golden chance.
So now that I’m back to Necalli, and getting the AA jab working I faced the following problem against an Akuma: when facing upfront his st HP and cr.HP seems to be tagging my pokes and a crush counter from cr. HP is real bad news. The button priority makes me not want to try st. mp that much. Which button do you use in the footsies war against Akuma?
The other issue is that if trying to keep a longer distance where a jump in is easy to AA Akuma can easily set an air fireball which if hits leads into a full combo, so a range where I wouldn’t normally be wary of a jump in can be very dangerous.
Feel like the machup is about who gets the knockdown first because both can put an ungodly offense but so far I feel the Akuma player has an easier time landing it. How do you feel?
Hello? Somebody here? C’mon, you can’t be all storyline snobs who got dissuaded by all the Necalli jobbing.
Can’t play today. How’s Necalli AA jab? Looks it was one of the biggest targets of the S3 balance changes. I will certainly miss it to deal with ambiguous jump ins but if cr. HP or Raging Light received consistency buffs I’ll be happy.
Honestly Necalli doesn’t feel as weak as I thought he would after the nerfs so still rocking him to devour our opponents.
Was jumping HP hitstun nerfed? I could swear opponents can block the followup unless I delay it to hit deeper which of course exposes you to AAs. Kind of a bummer but given that it is still good and AA jabs are more scarce, guess I can practice some shimmy game when they block and I’m close on advantage.
Necalli still solid. Vt1 looks gimmicky but vt2 is good for locking people down in the corner as it covers both rises.
AA jabs are way inconsistent and cr.HP is a bit slow. When in doubt exdp man. We get meter quick in this fame anyway.
Losing adv on throw fucked us over. Loops and pressure after a throw was Necallis party starter.
Thing I most miss is the reset after an AA jab. Button/side switch/command grab/grab mix up was real.
His strongest aspect is he does well vs the S tier in this game.
Abigail, Birdie, Akuma are all in his favour.
He can hang with Cammy, guile.
Only Rashid feels really bad.
Vt2 will be hell for anyone without an invincible reversal
I was commenting on Necalli’s jumping HP vs a grounded oppponent, although I agree that cr. HP can be slow sometimes and AA jab sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.
Can you elaborate on the Akuma matchup? It is my worst matchup by far. How proactive you are on the matchup? Which is your strategy against air fireballs?
After some time of playing, fuck the Akuma matchup. It’s like a mirror match except you’re paired against the vanilla version of Necalli. Both of you want to get in and play the close frame trap game except Akuma does it way better with longer strings of pressure, a superior CC button to all ours and the command overhead which links to full combo now. He can jump on you with full impunity thanks to air fireballs unless you waste your meter just to keep afloat. VT2 seems to be like the only saving grace since once on the screen it covers all approach options except Raging Demon; however, I’ll advise getting a sub like Guile or Urien who are better suited to hold him back (dunno if nerfed Urien can keep up, though).
