Well, I guess I’m making this thread because there seems to be some interest and confusion on what is happening with NCR this year. John, please let us know if you are going to run it as it will take a month to make sure the word is out. I really hope this happens this year as it’s always a blast and the turnout is amazing. I heard some people from Socal are interested in coming again this year as well. I spoke with Parker at SVGL today and he said he would talk to management about it. If nothing else, maybe Mighty Keystone II Boss Albert would be down to run it…or Black Rob (Forgive me for the poor humor, but I am indeed joking - sorry Rob).
Anyway, if you are interested in attending, please voice your support, otherwise there is a good chance NCR could be a thing of the past.
ryan aka let blood run told me about ncr and it sounds to dope. i wanna fly out for this if it happens. he also told me about some insane sounding challenge called the 911 challenge at a place called cluck u. im down for that also
As of now, there are no plans to run NCR this year. Main reason is there are no suitable venues to support an event like NCR. An arcade must have the following minimum to have NCR, at least 2 machines of:
CvS2
MvC2
3S
TK6
SF4
No arcade satisfies those requirements, not even Golfland. The Golflands have about 1 of each now, and no SF4. SJSU has SF4 but no TK6. If somehow 1 location can secure all those cabinets by shipping it from other locations, then it is a possibility.
Running the event with only 1 machine will mean 1 game or single elim, which does not appeal to out of towners.
I already spoke to Albert and Keystone is not viable. His personal home can not support an event like NCR for the whole day. Only about 20 players can fit inside the actual arcade and we can not have more than about 30-35 people at the location.
An idea that was bounced around for a while was renting a venue and bringing TVs, consoles, tables, etc. But that costs money and resources. Most venues charge at least $500 a day to rent, that does not include costs of necessary equipment.
So basically, NCR can only happen if those arcades can pool together and have all the cabinets at 1 location, or if someone can provide a free venue.
If SFSU has 2 of all those machines, then the place works out. I’ve never been there so I did not know.
Does anybody know the arcade owner and if he/she is willing to let us hold a tournament on a weekend? He/she will need to fix all sticks and buttons and stick around on tournament day to fix things as needed.
Looking around Dec 10th weekend as that is 2 weeks after Thanksgiving and 2 weeks before Xmas.
Oh 2 of all of them! No they do not, plus there are other problems that might arise with SFSU, such as it closing at 9:30 or the parking. SOrry, its hard pressed to find an arcade with two of any game now.
yeah was wondering about this the other day. I havent been able to make it the past two years and was hoping it would go down this year. Seems like TV, consoles & venue is your best bet at this point.
There is a spot called Cellspace in the city that is on 18th and Bryant I think… They host b-boy jams that go pretty late a lot of the time so you might want to see if you can work something out there. There is a lot of space and Id be willing to supply a cpl Tvs and stuff to make sure this happens.
As far as SFIV, I dunno, maybe CAPCOM or SFSU would be willing to get a cab out to a venue… T6 too… :\
Me and Mami and secret character best newskool 3s player were all thinking of coming down anyway, but we would wait for this! Awesome idea, convicing SVGL to move 3 cabs over isn’t happening. I would say SCR 08 is the way! Great idea Yi.
Didn’t we run NCR last year though at svgl just fine? I know golflands are also willing to transport machines to each others places, the only thing that is missing is sf4 which is a damn shame, but still.
There has not been an NCR with a single elimination event. Every single tournament including CvS2 has been double elim. There has been no problems finishing on time as long as there is 2 cabinets. FACT: At NCR, MvC traditionally takes just as long as CvS to finish.
Great. Now if you can actually get them to DO IT, that solves the problem for 1 game. Now go do it for the other games people want at NCR.
That is your opinion. Anyway, NCR can still take place without 1 of those games listed. But what about the other games? Not much of a ‘major’ with just another CvS, MvC, and 3S tournament.
Last year it was with 2 of every machine. Towards the end of the tournament people were unhappy with sticks on a particular 3S and MvC cabinet and we only used 1. But we started with 2 for all until towards the end.
