Thats debatable to a certain aspect. Percentage wise you’re definitely right. Once you factor in assists to some of the more competitive teams in MvC2 I’d say there’s probably 15 to 20 competitive characters in that game. Once its all said and done those numbers will more that likely be the same for MvC3. Its pretty rare that you see a Capcom fighter with true balance. ST and XvSF are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that pretty much the entire roster was competitive in some aspect and I’m pretty sure that XvSF was more of a mistake than a plan. It seems pretty unrealistic to expect that kind of balance although you never know. In the end I just hope this game errs more on the side of MvC2 in terms of competitiveness than say a MvSF(Wolverine anybody?) lol

It’d be impossible for Marvel 3 to release and play like a Marvel 2 day one. That game being good was an accident yes, and came out in a time where the internet wasn’t immediately blowing up every game that comes out, the obsession with balance and all that. Games and the culture are different now, there’s so much pressure on the developers to do something safe and right, but still somewhat creative.
MVC3 seems fine to me. Every character I’ve sat down with seems pretty damn viable. Couple of things could use some balancing in patches down the line but it’s really good for what it is. People just gotta get used to it, they did the same thing with SF4 when it first came out (and 2 or more years after too haha).
All I know is I’m having fun and that’s generally why I play games so, I will happily keep playing it.
Also after Jason’s last night, I realized how stupid that Haggar assist is. It’s like a pocket safe DP that you can block while you do and leads to a loop or combo on your main character lol. EDIT: Just to clarify for those asking me. Just like last year I wont be leaving NC until LATE Thursday night. Im talking almost 10pm and driving through the night. I HATE late afternoon and early morning driving so I prefer to drive at night when the only thing on the road really are transfer trucks. I can drive peacefully and we can stop to grab snacks/food without fighting to get off the highway. I take roadtrips serious and nothing is gonna happen to my passengers that isnt gonna happen to me first. Blake/Roski/Phil/Q rode with me last year if you have any questions about my performance.
Also, people that are used to MVC2 are of course going to like that game more for now because it’s what they’re used to. That’s natural. I do like that MVC3 is more accessible though because that’s what kept me from playing 2 in the past.

Matt/Jimmy: I figured out why my Chris death combo got fucked up last night. When you do the Satellite Laser after the unrecoverable knockdown it operates similarly to Makoto’s Abare Tosonami. If you press nothing after the super flash the reticle appears on Chris, if you hold L it appears slightly in front of Chris, M is halfway across the screen, and H is fullscreen and when I landed the OTG c.H KFC H Combination Punch (unrecoverable KND) into the lvl3 I used M+H and I have a habit of mashing out the H button when doing it to guarantee all 3 shots OTG the opponent. But from the position I was in my reticle appeared behind my opponent.
So yeah, when doing Chris’s lvl3 hold the appropriate button to insure the reticle appears where you want it. This little bit of info ISNT in the MvC3 bible so I thought I would share.
