NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

Yeah I wanted to come yesterday but I was busy. Hopefully next week.

How far is G-Vegas from Raleigh?

Little less than an hour and a half

Matt will allegedly be home around 5:15-5:30 pending on when he gets out of work? So I’m guessing like 6pm start time? Not running it terribly late means I’m also assuming it’ll end at the latest around like 11pm. Those are guesses though.

Really? Goldsboro is only like 45-an hour… I thought Greenville was closer than that.

I went to school at NC state for 4 years and still have friends in the area. I make the trip pretty regularly. If you drive fast and traffic isn’t bad getting out of Raleigh maybe you could make it in an hour.

Edit: I usually average 1:15

Okies, good to know for future reference. I probably won’t come out to greenville much unless it’s on weekends then.

Also in Cary.

Yo, Alex! Answer your fuckin’ phone or I’ma start calling you by your real first name on SRK!

Hey man - just wanted to thank you for that qualifying edit. I appreciate that, sir.

And I totally agree; we should just play. Before 10 years ago, that’s exactly what we all used to do. SRK and going to tournaments has gotten me (& many others) in the habit of viewing fighting games with a much more critical eye. Too much of which can be a bad thing in a game’s infancy.

I’ve been in bed sick all day so no games here. I’m up for a while now, but uhhh definitely not up for it lol.

Demo, if you still have a spot open I’d like to join in. When is everyone leaving, though? I’m one of these people that has to work on Thursday.

any players from raleigh please message me, i’m looking for people i can play in person and also people who can help improve my skill.

I actually got the time off, but unless I hear from Demo soon, I’m probably still out. Demo, check your voicemail plz!

I know I’m coming in late on this one but I prefer MvC2 over MvC3 at this point in time. I agree with Rod about the time you have to OTG someone. I’m not totally on board with X Factor either but I don’t feel its that bad yet. I have a funny feeling that X Factor in the long run it will either make the game playable and more competetive or unplayable. Its kind of a pick your poison between the 2 games, Big 4 plus maybe Spiral, Iron Man & Strider/Doom or watching most of the MvC3 cast being played roughly the same way with the same combos with a Sentinel Kill button. As of right now I just think MvC2 is the better game although with the game being in its infancy my opinion could change, just kinda the way I feel now. Its still a fun game, just don’t know if I’ll ever take it as seriously as I did MvC2 a long time ago.

PS This is not meant as a bash to MvC3 players or anything, more of a post to let Rod know he’s not alone with how he feels about it so far.

Demo, if you still have a spot open holla at me. I just need to find a place to leave my car in Raleigh for the weekend. :\

Hey, thanks Erik. I appreciate it. I also want to say that I’m not bashing MvC3, more just thinking out loud. It’s undeniably a very good looking game, and hopefully it brings some people in.

I’d like to see the game make it. I don’t expect the success level of MvC2, that was a rare event and not even fully intentional as designed. More of a happy accident. Either way - I don’t expect to still be playing it heavily 10 years from now.

I got in a good MvC3 session with some comp, and it was enough to make me say “uh oh” about some things. Kinda like I did when I found out it was 3 attack buttons, 3 weeks before release.

Anyway, I’ll pipe down because I saw how people bitched about (S)SF4 and that’s about the last thing I want to do. I have to say it had an effect on how much I was willing to put into that game, and how much slack I cut it (read: not much). I can at least give it some time before all that, and even then only if the game truly deserves it.

No problem Rod, let me know some time when we can get up and play this game like it was MvC2 lol

Re: every character playing the same, I see that as a product of multiple factors. One of them is something Lucious talked about at the last Lucky’s, something that the game seems to share with SF4. The game is designed in such a way that characters’ playstyles are basically programmed in and as such there doesn’t seem to be much room for creativity at first. Basically, the developers have been doing this for so long and have recently been getting a lot of feedback from serious players that they’ve sort of figured out what people do in the game, or at least what they’d like to do.

Another big factor is the sheer amount of playtime dumped into MvC2. People broke that game down to such a degree that when given a similar game, it’s really easy for them to look at it and see what’s strong and what isn’t. Players can tell what assists are good, which characters have good DHCs, that sort of thing.

But yeah, give the game some more time to evolve, and most of all, enjoy your time with it. I swear, it’s like digital crack, I start playing and suddenly I look up and it’s already been two or three hours!

The more I play MvC3 the more I like it. I dropped Magneto/Storm/Sentinel right after Lucky’s and am currently using Haggar/Wesker/Sentinel. I just found a 100% reset with Haggar that works on the entire cast. It only requires 1 assist (Wesker-B) with no hyper meter or x-factor.

I hear what you’re saying Blake and I do agree with you on what the developers did with the game to make it that way. I really do hope MvC3 grows into a deep and sophisticated fighter like MvC2. A lot of people say that MvC2 boiled down to the Big 4 and while some of that is true its not the whole truth. The real aspect of MvC2 that made it a deep fighter was the team aspect of the game as well as how good the assist system turned out to be in the game(Psylocke, CapCom, Tron, Cyke, Doom etc…). Right now I really don’t see that same kinda depth in that department especially in the AA department. The assists in this game seem to me to be more beam/projectile happy or OTG friendly. But I do agree, the game is young and I really do like it. At the same time it does make me appreciate the intended and unintended intricacies of MvC2. Overall I do think MvC3 is a pretty good game and I have had a lot fun playing people in the game besides trying to play online here and there and I hope that experience continues to grow sans online.

At least the game seems to have a lot more variety in competitive characters…for now.
