NC Thread LIV: No name for this one

Ricki vs Gllty? If you ask me either way a girl was going to win the match, that’s just math.

Matt got 3rd in GG.

Top 3 in MvC3 is Justin/Marn/Combofiend.

wow combofiend! he’s such an exciting player to watch.

gs to all you guys that went to FR.

Yup, Combofiend won it, with Justin 2nd and Marn 3rd.

The people who played Blazblue, Arcana, Guilty Gear, Tekken and Melty…

Good shit takin’ 17th in ssf4 bro.

17th?

What a heartbreaker >_>

Good Games NC…see you guys next year or next go around…

shout-outs to everyone who went and everyone who watched the stream,

fuck wesker, ghost n’goblins, and impossible SSFIV gimmick matches…

Good shit to everyone. Nice seeing everyone out there. It was so much fun and I think I placed first in the drinking tournament, not sure. I do know that Majors shouldn’t drink liquor, he falls a sleep so fast on that shit, lol. You def placed top 3 though :karate:

Yeah man, that chick was running through the halls talking about going to kill someone. I thought someone fucked her up or something. I didn’t know she had practiced mashing buttons for the tourney.

Everytime I saw Keits I could only think: “I hope you lose, dick.”

FR was mad fun. Didn’t do as well as I hoped but ehh… I had to fight phillipino champ in Marvel and my SSF4 bracket was like the Guile / Honda / Bison bracket, so I knew I wasn’t gonna make it too far lol.

Way too hype for Marvel now though. Fought Tokido… that man DOES NOT drop combos.

Smurvis don’t read this

Did anyone listen on the stream when Keits was talking to Mike Ross about a different payout system for whatever upcoming tournament? Thought it sounded interesting, it was supposed to payout the top 10% of the pool, so I guess if you had 300 people, top 30 get paid, 400 ppl then top 40, etc. I guess it’s similiar to other big tournaments.

What’d you guys think, is top 3 still reasonable? I guess Lucky’s normally get somewhere between 40-50+ people, so that would only add 1 or 2 more payouts.

Anyway, thought it was interesting, and since this is a “discussion” thread, thought I’d throw that out there.

Yeah I heard him say that and I agree with it. It’s something that I’ve thought of for awhile now since I find it sad to see good players repeatedly place high at major tournaments but get no money. An example pay structure would look like:

1st $100 + 70%
2nd $90 + 20%
3rd $80 + 10%
4th $70
5th $60 (2)
7th $50 (2)
9th $40 (4)
13th $30 (4)
17th $20 (8)
25th $10 (8)

wouldn’t that mean you would need extra money to be thrown into the pot+actual pot money? If so, you have to think about where you’re getting that extra money from.

In the example listed by corner-trap, the cost of the bonus money with top 32/300 would be $1080. Assuming they took that from the pot first, that would drop the pot from $3000 down to $1920 for the 70/20/10 split. 1st/2nd/3rd, even with the bonuses would end up ACTUALLY getting 48/16/9 instead of 70/20/10.

That doesn’t look like it hurts 2nd and 3rd too much, but it hurts the hell out of 1st. 3rd would lose 10%, 2nd would lose 20% and 1st would lose about 32%. They’d have to lose money, cause in this example over one third of the pot would be going to the top 10%. I don’t think I approve of this “top player” tax at the expense of the losers. Congratulations on winning! Now give some of your money to these people that you just bodied.

Edit:
On a sidenote, I completely disapprove of this for local tournaments. But for shit like Evo and FR, I could justify them trying to do something small for top 8 and top 8 only. But even then, they could probably get some sponsors to pitch in some cash so it doesn’t effect the pot from entry fees.

i guess the 10% payout could go either way. i know there are some side/small tourneys still at lucky’s like HDR/melty/whatever that get smaller turnouts now, so, for an 8 person tournament, this would basically mean that it’s winner take all. if you’re paying out top 3 on an 8 person tourney, you’re paying out ~40% of the entrants.

and also, yes, i understood it the same as smurv explained, where the top player gets hit the hardest, but if you’re going to a lot of tourneys and you’re not consistently getting 1st place, then it probably evens out (assuming other tourneys had a similar structure).

i don’t know, again, i just thought it was an interesting idea. i haven’t even gotten close to breaking top 8 at lucky’s, so this certainly doesn’t affect me

haha yo you crazy son , we gotta get up again

yo ATL rides the wave son

I don’t like the idea of the top 32. C’mon man, if you are good and you travel across the country or even from another country you should get paid for where you land. Look at wong and marn. They took 2nd and 3rd, should they get more or less cause they normally take first. Combo got first and if he had to split that shit he would be pissed. That is a huge major and he beat out the two top guys that were the favorite for taking it.

I host the Charlotte tourneys and I don’t agree with doing it for 40-50+ ppl. I am however going to start offering monitors and games, sometimes systems, as a raffle/door prize to give back to the community. I think it wouldn’t be fair if I gave it to 1st place cause usually it’s always the same people. I think this is where the spread should be implemented.

Watching the FR stream got me mega-hype for some games! Anyone up for some SSFIV, BB:CS, HDR, Scott Pilgrim this week?
