NC HATE THREAD LII: Where the rare Whoopi-Q can be found!

Oh Shi–

Edit: Well I took this out cause I thought it was a fragmented thought, spread too thin between useless words. But the people who caught it seem to have gotten the message so I’ll put it back.

EDIT:
WARNING. GREAT BIG MUTHA FUCKING POST. TL;DR = PLAY GAMES, STOP FEELING YOURSELF AND SCROLL DOWN TO THE NEXT POST.

Jon hit it. I don’t care how good you are at fighting games, I’m not saying you’re a terrible person and always gonna be terrible. I don’t find myself to be very good either. But (until I read the quote of your post in Jon’s post) I have never seen you post anything relevant to anything ever. Sure, there’s nonsense on the boards at times, but not 100% of the time. You’re constantly posting about smoking blunts, and getting high, and bodying people, and talking shit about raping top players and taking peoples money and shit. You were REALLY BAD the first like… two days. After that you went from 400% bullshit, down to just like 100%. You may think I act like hot shit, but go back and read any of my posts. I never really claim to be good at anything. The few “gdlk” posts are usually in jest, and they are maybe liike 5% of all posts I make. Every other one isn’t about beating Yipes in Marvel, or taking Justin’s money.

I just have a real big issue with people who think they’re godlike, or constantly talk shit about how good they are. There are people who have pissed me off worse than you Bloo, but the context of what you’ve pissed me off about is why I’ve gotten so nasty and that’s my fault. And i’m not even slightly offended at the post you made. I just made this post to clear up some stuff. To be honest, I’m happy to see you finally make one legit post. Up until now, you’ve been acting like a clown. And the word clown is the best word to describe it. Just play. Learning shit comes with time, and nobody cares if you’re total trash. Just play, you’ll get better. That’s what the fighting game community is for. Just don’t act or talk big, people hate that shit. And by people, I mean me.

On a similar note to everyone, there are good players in this state, and Matt/Roski/Rick seem to be the most accomplished. There’s maybe another like 8-10 (I don’t feel like counting, 4-6? 6-8? 8-10? Who knows) I’d cite as good players. Everyone else is decent or below, and I personally rank in that decent or below category myself. No offense to anyone in NC, but if you haven’t done anything in tournaments out of state you’re not a “great player.” And if you haven’t done anything IN state, you’re not even a “good player” either. You’re just decent and below. And that’s not offensive or insulting, it’s true. The reason why “not good” sounds nasty, is because it’s relative. And in competitive fighting, it’s relative to the best. Not good doesn’t mean bad. It’s just NOT good. Kinda like how not like and dislike are two different things. You might think “I’m a good player!” because you’re better than you used to be by leaps and bounds and you’re always progressing and feel like you have a good understanding of what’s going on for the most part. But if you can’t do it in tournaments, you’re “decent” at best. It takes a lot of work and experience to get good. Maybe I just have a more pessimistic opinion about my own play and won’t allow myself but so many moral victories, but until I consistently get top 3 at Lucky’s in a game I care about I won’t consider myself anything better than decent. I try not to get my ass too high up on my shoulders. Unless I hit Matt Frank with 3 low shorts into EX Green Hand at a Greenville gathering. Then my ass is so far over my shoulders it’s busted through Matt’s ceiling and I’m feeling myself like I’m paying by the hour for it.

I think it’s easier to hear that from someone like me, who’s never gotten higher than 7th (at the first SF4 tourney, yay for me no one knew how to fight Gief) and seems to consistently hover around the mid-teens in bracket results. I think if Matt were to say the same thing about good/decent players combined with his naturally abrasive demeanor, it would sound condescending to most unless he personally went out of his way to stress that he wasn’t being mean. Just play the game people. Hit training mode, learn your combos and option-selects, and ask match-up specific questions when you lose. Anyone can do anything if they work for it.

Edit:
I think I got sidetracked with the good/decent thing. Those are just words. It’s a translation error. You say “I’m good”, top player hears you say “I’m a top player.” Top player then says “You’re ok” and you hear him say “Yo dawg, you’re GUTTER TRASH I’ll body you for free anyday MM $100 FT10.”

Looks sooooooo gdlk.

EDIT: That was an awesome post, Jimmy.

For the record, I consider myself to be a decent player at best in my game(s) of choice.

I think I’m decent too. In SSf4 at least.

I need to churn more butter with Gief though…

I think I used too many words. There were pieces of a message in that post. I’m just not quite sure how to convey it and have it sound reasonable and maintain what I’m trying to say without having the overwording detract into unnecessary tangents. I’d prefer to be at a loss of words then to need too many.

Edit: Nvm, Blake and Porter apparantly caught it and got what I was trying to say. I put it back.

Ehh, I’m tired of people trying to rank who’s good and who’s bad and ranking them and all that. I don’t think ANYONE is really in any position to judge anyone else on how good they are really, even though we talk shit about it all the time. As long as you’re better than you used to be, and are making an effort to continue that path, I think you’re a good player. We’re all just at different points in experience / understanding but I really dislike saying “this guy is good” or “this guy is bad”. It can give a person a bad self image of how they are as a player when it’s not true. I guess I just don’t like people’s obsession with grouping / labeling things. That shit is discouraging for people.

Perspective is really important. If you want to get better, you have to look at the big picture and use it as a reference. If you think you’ve improved a lot, but you know you’d still get raped by tournament-level players, you need to keep that in mind so you can continue to improve. It’s better to avoid thinking highly of yourself, because even top players get bodied.

I enjoy this. This is exactly what the NC thread was missing, which is actual dialogue on games. More on that later.

Jon, I think it depends on the person really. Some people have a self-image problem as players and don’t like to hear it. But they’ll have more trouble getting better than people are more open to criticism. That’s true for fighting games and real life. You can’t make everyone happy all the time, people need to hear how to improve. The best you can do is sugar-coat it for the weak at heart. And I don’t mean downplay, just deliver the info with a more engaging question based discussion than a “Don’t do this, do that, and do that.”

And we need perspective on who’s good. The more roads the better players travel, the less roads we have to. Imagine if all the top players played a game. Their good and bad discoveries would look like the roots of a tree. A new player has to build his own roots, to deal with the good and the bad. But if he has access to the information from top players and their roots, he can rule out bad roots much sooner (Don’t do random Ultra, stop spamming DPs on wake-up 100% of the time) to see what’s good. There are some good roots a top player might find that a new player would never even THINK of. I still to this day don’t quite know exactly what to look for when I’m trying to train for stuff or figure out new mix-ups. And getting better isn’t just learning good, it’s about unlearning bad. The bad roots we find in training mode that you then call Matt Frank and James about and spend 20 minutes describing why it’s so awesome and then they blow you off and tell you that it’s not good and you need to focus on fundamentals and footsies and stop looking for magic ways to win and you take all this in stride and you don’t hold a grudge or dwell on it later about how you wasted all that time inventing a new way to suck it up or anything like that you just live life and play games and all is well. And the sooner someone points out the bad, the sooner we can adjust or remove it. And that would be infinitely harder if we all tried to make our own roots separately in isolation vs. trying to cooperate and build a tree together.

And I used roots as a metaphor because in my own mind it best visualized concepts of “going down that road” in multiples. I wasn’t trying to be all abstract and profound and shit. So to lessen the seriousness of my post, here’s a video of a dog dancing to latin music that I already posted on facebook:

Edit:
The Matt Frank/James thing was a joke, in case you two missed the run-on sentence and the inside joke sarcasm.

I needa try to get good.

Decent aint cutting it for me. I’d go to mad sessions and tournaments and shit. I just need an f’ing license.

I’m also hella nervous. I’m exaclty the type of self-image problem player Jimmy described :S

True, but I actually understood what he meant in the first post after a while.

LOL.

Okay I think I understand dude. I know where you are coming from now that I have a better understanding of what goes on here in the forums.

I really do want to get better so the next time I post I’ll try to make it more constructive instead of being on some 4chan bullshit.

Jimmy, if it weren’t for some dudes like you, then newer players like myself wouldn’t be able to level up at all without having to look like a fool doing.

Man please don’t quote Jimmy’s wall o text.

It’s a good post, but man is it long

i think we should delete NC threads

THE WEIGHT OF THE FORUMS CAN’T TAKE IT. DON’T QUOTE ME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

And yeah, I don’t hate you or anything Bloo. Well, I kinda did for a while. But that was back when you were a cartoon character, you seem like a real boy now. Geppetto would be proud.

Edit:
I just realized I’ve posted about 30 pages worth of novel text today. I’m done, I’ll leave the thread alone. Who do I look like, Jon? AMIRITE? EH? EH?

When’s next tourney?

**Over on TZ awhile back every player was broken down into a few key categories and a brief description of their good and bad points was given. Maybe we could try that here. It went something like this. **

Guerilla S:
Punish - 5.6
Combo - 6.5
Adapting - 5.9
Knowledge - 6.8
Throwbreaking - 6.8
Patience - 6.3
Pokes - 6
Style: Defensive

Overall: 6.8 - u know ur character and have a desent knowledge of others. ur throwbreaking is sum of the best in the state and having ur knowledge of the game and execution express ur ability. u know when to and not to attack and tht makes u a good player.

Master Blaster:
Punish - 2
Combo - 3
Adapting - 3
Knowledge - 2
Throwbreaking - 3
Patience - 3
Pokes - 3
Style: Poke Heavy

Overall: 3.3 - mainly bc ur unfamiliar with character knowledge. mainly due to ur higher priorities in life, nothing wrong with tht though. but it jus shows u dont play this game as often as the rest of us, being more exposed to us will get u there in time though

Silent Symphony:
Punish - 5.6
Combo - 6.5
Adaption - 6.2
Knowledge - 7
Throwbreaking - 6.8
Patience - 6.2
Poke - 6.5
Style: Poke Heavy/Setups

Overall: 6.9 - solid poking game and u purposely whiff to setup ur opponent, meaning ur knowledge of ur character is on par. Ur skills improve everytime i see u play

AceUnlimited:
Punishment - 6
Combo - 7
Adapting - 7.3
Knowledge - 7
Throwbreaking - 6.8
Patience - 8
Poking - 6.9
Style: Mixup/Setups

Overall: 7.3 - Nice bait & switch style. Solid patience and adapts fairly well in a fight. With a unique style and being an asuka player make ur mixups work well as a combination.

JanusDS:
Punishing - 3
Combo - 3.5
Adapting - 4
Knowledge - 3
Throw Breaking - 1.5
Patience - 3
Poking - 3
Style: Risky

Overall: 3.7 - you tend 2 2nd guess urself at times, i think its due to lack of character knowledge. this leads to small errors like dropping combos and that makes u lose patience and get frustrated.

Ghostface:
Punishing - 3
Combo - 5
Adapting - 4
Knowledge - 3.5
Throw Breaking - 2
Patience - 3
Pokes - 4
Style: Highly Aggressive

Overall: 4.1 - highly aggressive and always looking to get tht “max dmg.” which leads to mess ups that get u punished greatly. if u focus a little more on using pokes and safer moves you’ll get tht dmg in time. jus be more patient.

James:
Punishing - 4.5
Combo - 6
Adapt - 5.2
Knowledge - 4
Throwbreaking - 1.5
Patience - 5.5
Pokes - 6
Style: Turtle

Overall: 5 - u hv a desent poking game and patience in getting ur hits in. U really need to focus on “1 main” and u will adapt much faster. u need to GREATLY improve in ur throwbreaking ability, thats ur kryptonite man.

This system is based on a 10 (Korean) point scale. Its actually worked in helping our new players get motivated and given the vets areas to work on. And its worked. Its also shown in Tekken tourny performance.

Maybe the KNOWLEDGEABLE players like Matt (yes im acknowledging you there), Roski, Rick, and West could do that for some of us. Based purely on Super Street Fighter 4. Maybe it would help some of us to better assess what we need to work on. Then without getting butthurt people could discuss and work towards getting better.

Just an idea.

I did not see a fucking dog dancing on the NC Flow Chart! >:(

Jimmy shut the fuck up lol j/k

Edit : P-Soul returns 2-15-2011!!! I might stop by Ians to trash talk/hype shit up tho…

Fuck Clark
