It’s a fair assessment thus far to see Charlie as “not Charlie” because of his current look. Because he sure seems a lot more like Shadow in his aggressive playstyle, dark psycho powers, and even his Final Mission hyper.
The technicality and confusion/annoyance is that Charlie and Shadow are one and the same, merely altered in various ways. So I can see why hardcore Charlie fans are iffy on his SFV inclusion. He’s my personal favorite SF character and a part of me feels the same way of his current look, but dammit, I’m also just glad he’s in there, regardless of what shape or form he’s taken on.
It’d be nice if more people took it the way you do. I’ve heard quite a few people in the Toronto FGC and my college talk about charlie’s new design and how much it sucks or blows and how they wanted the old charlie blah blah. It’s all fair game, if you want old charlie then nobody can really argue against personal opinion and taste.
I, however, find it asinine that people expected charlie to literally by THE SAME, after being absent for a zwazillion games, in game years and physical years. Innovation comes from bold change, and keeping charlie the same would of just been pointless to me.
Agreed. I’ll add that expecting this Charlie to play the same as the old Charlie is the equivalent of expecting Evil Ryu to play like Ryu. Except that Evil Ryu is a ‘What If’ character, and SF5 Charlie is very much happening. I want more bold moves like this coming from Capcom relating to old characters. Brave or grave Capcom! GO FOR BROKE!
Yeah I’ve said before that Charlie should look like he had a skin-grafting operation rather than be all stapled together like that’s all holding him up. I’d prefer him to be alive but dead.
