Yeah but there is an underlying lack of imagination many scientists seem to have in regarding alien life.
Now I understand they have limited budgets and can’t propose looking for everything that might have some unusual life. On the other hand, looking for earth-like life on completely foreign planets seems like a waste of time as well.
I also believe gas giant planets are being ignored as well. Many gaseous planets are literally a swirling stream of organic compounds like methane. The fact that they don’t have a rocky surface doesn’t prevent organisms from forming.
The definition of life:
-Must be able to reproduce and grow.
-Consume energy for sustenance.
-Responds to stimuli.
What’s funny is that a star can do 2/3 and virus does like 2.5/3.
lol@ srkers wanting to be fucking captain kirk…stick his dick in whatever alien orface he can find…someone really has to explain how he never got alien std’s.
I’m pretty sure that aliens existing doesn’t go against anything in the Bible. I think theres actually some verse or another talking about other beings or something.
I do believe the bible mentions “unfallen worlds” or something to that extent. The main issue is the perception of morality and “specialness” is reduced. Who do you answer to if an alien society is so independent and advanced, that our ideas on religion look juvenile and inconsequential on a galactic standpoint.
I think the whole thing is more so the “unfallen worlds” are supposedly uncorrupted by sin and whatever, and Earth is supposedly the only one that is in the balance and so these other worlds could be watching to see who wins out, good or evil. Not trying to be preachy, but I think thats somewhere along the lines of something I heard when I was little.
If God made us in his image, did he make them in his image as well? If this advanced society has religion, how does that affect religions here? Particularly if they are monotheistic, could there be a consensus that it’s the same “God”?
lets all shit on a religion, because it really fucking pisses me off that someone believes something. god damn assholes. i cant wait to laugh at them once their world comes crushing down, because i hate them. because they believe something.
so that basically confirms the whole “a planet needs to be in the same area as earth” shit goes out the window? so that means not only could there be billions of earth like planets there could be trillions of planets with life on it?
i think people don’t realise when they say that there aren’t any found earth like planets i think they mean planets that are exactly like earth, its hilarious that there could be life all over the place but we aren’t actually able to percieve it, this thing that’s been found is probably only because its not to different to us structure wise.
The ancient religions are viewed humanity as something special. That’s why the religious texts everywhere all thought the sun revolved around the earth. And that is why the judeo christian God created us in His image.
The most likely strategy that the evangelicals will adopt if extraterrestial simple single celled organisms are found is to argue:
“It doesn’t say in the bible that god did NOT create other life forms on other planets”
“Well, we’re still special, because we are still the most advanced form of life. God created US in HIS image, WE MATTER!”
still, it will be a huge blow.
if intelligent extraterrestrial life is found however, point 2 becomes moot and pretty much pwns the judeo christian God. GG NO RE.
I didn’t know that a lot of churches still taught stuff like “we are in his image, we are better than anyone else out there.”
Like I said earlier, from what I remember when going to church regularly the “created in his image” thing is cool and all but I always thought the whole “special” thing was that God supposedly gave humanity free will to choose between following God or Satan. And that since Lucifer or whatever was cast down onto Earth, its the only place where Sin took root and so its like watching to see who is ultimately right, good vs evil stuff.
evangelicals, who comprise the most vocal and obnoxious subset of christians, think humans are special and god created us specifically in his own image. that is why they don’t believe in evolution.
REMAINDER OF THE POST IS ON TOPIC:
OK, turns out the media hyped up the news way too much. turns out the bacteria was specifically bred in the labs, and the scientists eventually got it to the point where it could replace phosphorous with arsenic. still really cool, but completely overhyped.
