No. People speculated that based on his comment to Jiraiya. It’s now assumed that he avoided Jiraiya because he was the spy forjiraiya. Jiraiya also avoided the fight. He had plenty of methods to retain them as shown in his Pain fight.

itachi wasnt even jiraiyas spy, jiraiya didnt know shit bout itachi cept that hen joined aka.
jiraiya had a spy in aka, but remember aka gotz underlings like sasori had them. itachi nor pain where jiraiyas spies, none of the standard members where.
also itachi was an anbu (elite assasins directly under the kages or danzou control), and he had done missions before the slaughter, meaning he had kills under his belt. thing with itachi was he didnt like killing and didnt do it as a pass time. mainly cause he was passive and not evil.
just a theory theres no concrete evidence that is true. If that were true, J-man really went the distance to play their roles by forcing Itachi use MS.
I hope the series ends with Konohamaru killing Sasuke.
Sasori didn’t have any underlings in Akatsuki. He had a guy in Suna, and he thought he had Kabuto. That’s it.
The only Akatsuki “underling” we ever saw was Tobi, and he came in to replace Sasori, the first Aka killed. Since then, almost all the Akatsuki have gotten killed, and zero replacements have popped up, which suggests that they don’t exist. Akatsuki is who we’ve seen. That’s it.
Jiraiya said he had a spy, and while we don’t know for sure it was Itachi, it makes some sense for Itachi to have been that spy. I don’t know when Itachi would have gotten away from Kisame to get his snitch on, though.
nah hav this time you aint making sense buddy boy, sorry. most akas had underlings, we aint seen them but we know high profile ninjas got associates. saso wasnt the only one. the chances of the spy being an actuall member is pretty much 0. personally i think he just knew somebody from the village where pain was residing at.

I know they had associates, but I’m saying that there were no underlings actually in Akatsuki. Jiraiya had real information. Sasori’s little pet in Suna would not have been able to provide the kind of information Jiraiya was getting. He knew about moves being made.

jiraiya really didnt know that much bout aka, imagine if itachi was his spy. hed know bout pain, hed know bout madara, hed know way more just fact. his source wasnt IN aka, just an associate. listen to fatties rules man.
also some pets are more usefull than others, like kabuto, hes a useful pet and you know hell have some inside info on danzou and oro and what not, even saso, aka and shit.
unless zetsu turns out to be the spy, who would have thought…, slim to none though.

I think I’m pretty sure that it’s because Itachi was Jiraiya’s spy. That’s why he never wanted to confront him, or ever capture the Kyubi when he could’ve, or that’s why it’s also possible he stalled the conversation with Pain and Deidara when Pain allowed Deidara to try to capture the Kyubi in the beginning of Shippuuden. If Itachi wanted to get shit done, he would’ve done it.
