Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 gameplay thread

Hey boys,

I finally got my copy yesterday afternoon and I am having a blast with all the new upgrades. I haven’t really had enough time to emerse myself really deep into the system, as I am currently trying to complete as many missions as possible.

I noticed, however, that Ukon has many strings and combos that can lead into his X. Kidoumaru as far as I know at the moment, doesn’t really have that many strings and combos in comparision to Ukon.
The graphics engine seems to be rather tweaked, as some of the models and backgrounds have lot more contours and designs. I really like how X and d+X can be utilized whenever one wishes.
Anyway, once I get more into the game (after exams:arazz:) I’ll post some strats and other information.
But now I’m off to class; there is going to be a review for my tuesday mid-term.
Props to all who have been updating us with constant information.

Hey Gasarki, awesome tag vid. Would you mind sending me that song? or can you direct me to a place to get it? I can’t find it =[ Well anyways, props for the combo vid

Haven’t watched the vid yet, Gas; I’m sure it’s great though

I just unlocked Kisame; his chakra draining ability is very broken.

He has a good cancel point witch is very similar to Sasuke’s classic combo:

BBAA Y BBX

It drains enough chakra so that if your opponent has just enough to KnJ. he won’t after the secondary A.

I also notcied somthing with Haku: He has a combo that can now land a super after; in the previous installments it never worked unless you were behind a larger opponent (Zabuza). I believe it is:

BBBABA BBX

I’m not sure if that is correct or not; I can’t test it at this moment because I am on campus yet again. The first string is the standing B which leads to his double-kick launcher. No Y cancel needed. I doesn’t always work, but on most characters it does. The only person it didn’t land against was Hinata, but I haven’t tested it against all the characters.

It works, and I’m pretty sure it is universal.

Umm, I haven’t played any of the Naruto games, but I hear that the GKT games are pretty good. Should I start with this one or start with an earlier version like 1 or 3?

Start with this one, the new games are usually upgrades to the previous so you won’t miss out on much by skipping 1-3. Besides, 3v3 tag is just too good.

Thanks for the verification, Stabby.

Alright, do I have unlocked everyone save for CS2 and OTK; I haven’t had alot of time to do much with any characters, but soon exams will be done. After which, again, I will post some more strats.

As far as best new character goes, my vote woud have to be for either Kabuto or Kisame. Kisame gets my vote because of his retarded chakra draining abilities. Kabuto is one up because he constantly regains his health bar.

I haven’t really found an effect for his glowing hands, or is there any? Is it just an visual effect they added or is there an method to it?

Kabuto also has one of the lowest, if not THE lowest lifebar in the game. He has auto-guard properties during the moves with glowing hands. Kisame is good, but… he doesn’t drain as much chakara as it appears because only the last moves of his strings drain. Not counting the 2 you haven’t unlocked, strongest new goes to Tayuya for me, although ALL the new characters are strong compared to the old-school cast.

That was one thing I noticed as well; most of the new characters are alot better in comparison to the old crew. But alot of people still retain there high-tier qualities. The gamer gets a little more balance due to the Y Cancels, however. More people have more opportunites for better strings and combos.
Tayuya has alot of properties that are similar to Itachi; I would have to say that she mat be the funniest to play around with so far.

Even though Kabuto’s has life regen abilities, his defense is so shitty that it’s not really that much of advantage. If anything it’s just a cool visual effect.

Didn’t know about the glowing hands auto-guard properties, that’s pretty nice.

There are no new supers for the older characters? How do I contact the company?

The game is good but it could have been better. The only thing appealing are the cool fancy specials or other fireball thingies.
Even after that, the gameplay can only be described as fun only when playing with 4 players and it shouldn’t be a competitive one too.
Also, I find that the two Gokakyu Glitch/Freeze thing rather funny, which in order to do both players have to pick Sasuke CS2 and do the Katon special all at once, it slows the gameplay and doing another two will result in freezing .

Really? I think every installment has had quite a bit of depth for a fighting game based off of a popular anime. I’m sure alot of people here would agree with me, as well.

Well, I find that a match ends with doing a two hit combo followed by a special and that’s it. But with 4 players it’s like uber randomness. After two finish a fight you see one guy either standing watching the other two or two gang up on one.
It’s pretty funny. But the one on one match-ups are really boring frustrating and not that much depth in it.

That’s fine if you think that. There’s more strategy than you seem to think there is though.

Hmm,

I always play the game on the hardest difficulty, regardless of which installment it is. I’m still getting used to the 3v3 battles, but so far they are interesting.
However, I’m finding it hard to cope with the lack of combos in 3v3; even when I get a chance to aldna string, it seems like there is always someone tagging in, or KnJing. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it, but it’s taking awhile to get used to.

Other notes:

-I haven’t found alot of good things about Tayuya; sometimes her summons land…sometimes they don’t…She hardly has any mix ups, and her strings kind if blow. I really like using her though…strange.
-Fuck you Itachi and fuck your d+X
-I wish chakra didn’t gain while the other team mates are in waiting; that’s kind of stupid.

In regards to Tayuya, she does seem to be a one trick pony, yet she is better than I previously stated, but not by much. The problem is, when playing Tayuya, you mostly spam her summon ability and Okazime (sp) her X. She only has one good cancel point that I have discovered, but it is at the end of a ->BBBB string, so it isn’t that easy to utulize.
I still haven’t found any use for her <-B (besides the obvious); she stuns the opponent, but it doesn’t look like there is anything one can do after it.

By the way, no random character select option? That’s bullshit…

Itachi can kill everyone but the big guys(IIRC) off his d+X now ;_;

Ban or no?

I’ve heard from people that Sakon is being banned from local tournaments as well. I’ve always said the game was unbalanced, but hearing stuff like this so early into the game’s release is a bit disappointing.
