Namco Stick Appreciation!

^oh nice, got a link to who sells the converter?

Here are my dual modded (PS3 & 360) Namcos (JLF stick and OBSN-30 and Seimitsu K buttons with Sanwa SW-68 switches), got a third with stock parts as well. I even made a Namco look-a-like which is now my main stick. Well, the black & white Namco isn’t mine any longer since I sold it to a friend who really needed a PS360 stick.

I used barrier strips for LB,RB, LT and RT in order to be able to switch them around depending on which buttons you want on the right (since HD Remix uses LB and RB as defaults for fierce and roundhouse while SFIV uses RB and RT). The PCBs are a Cthulhu and a 360 FightPad which is placed beneath the buttons, had to bend the QDs a little to make it fit. But it was a lot easier than using an Arcade GameStick which I’ve used before when doing Namco dual mods

I’m on a mission to customize a Namco stick since I really like the appearance of the shell and the parts on the stick itself has been rusty. The bottom metal cover has many rust marks on both the inside and outside portions, while the buttons has had grime over the years.

Anyways I noticed several pictures revealed that the PCB for the L1/L2/Start/Select buttons still on them. For those that modified their Namco stick, did you just unsolder it from the original PCB and attached it to the Cthulhu? I wasn’t sure if it was worth it to continue to keep that portion of the PCB, or to just add in 10mm Crown buttons for those as I intended to dremel in a 5th hole for a guide button when I would install the neural jack in.

Yes, you can keep that portion of the pcb, you’d just need to attach the wires in the that pcb to the Cthulhu.

I finally sold my modded Namco, I almost changed my mind - but the guy had already gotten the money order ready.

Maybe one day, if I can snag another cheap one I’ll get another. Def not paying the current going rate on these now.

Also, I’m going to be taking pics this weekend and putting the stock Namco parts on my sales thread soon if anybody is interested.

I probably sound like a dick, but I wish more people would go the converter route and leave the stick stock.

That aside, my Japanese boxed Namco came in this week. If I had to do it again I would have gone the eBay route rather than overpaying on Yahoo Auctions Japan. What are you going to do? You can’t stop the Namco obsession. My lady is giving me my third tomorrow which is the brand new one from the shmups forums.

Send me a PM if you’ll do a decent price on the buttons. I’d like to play around with some in my TE.

kyle, that’s awesome! i really want a new one.

I got a chance to play around with it for a minute or two before she confiscated it as an anniversary present. It felt awesome. I’m going to leave it in the box and play with my two used sticks if I can help it.

haha awesome!

I totally agree. A Namco should be kept stock as much as possible.

I have 6 Namco buttons (all solder removed) I’ll sell for $20 shipped if you’re interested.

Stock Namco all the way. Converters aren’t too much of a hassle and you can keep that thing stock sexy, like a fine college freshman before she gets ruined

anyone just have the stick? im fine with seimitsu ps-14-g’s, just lookin for somethin to replace a hori one when those v3s and vx’s become available.

I have a Namco stock stick.

Offer?

I didn’t know that Pinhead likes joysticks too.

Okay I have managed to sand down and remove the paint that was on the stick. At this point I’m wondering what I should be doing to repaint the plastic portion. I’m also curious as what exactly to do with the bottom metal portion and the top metal cover. I researched both the vinyl dye and primer/plastic paint option, and I still can not come up with a conclusion as I cannot determine what type of plastic it is or if vinyl dye is even an option due to the plastic’s original paint.

As for the metal, I’m trying to figure out what exactly to do as I wish to remove any other signs of rust, yet I’m unfamiliar with what options I have, whether to repaint it or if there are any other ways to make the bottom metal cover perfect. For the top metal cover, I know for sure that there’s a preference towards repainting it, yet lami labels may be an option available.

Here are some pictures from after the clean up.

Note that I’m aware of the white substance coming from the plastic portion. It was recommended to me to use adhesive remover to remove the paint, which led to the white aftereffects. Also some sanding contributed to the addition of the white staining. Anyways what would you recommend for me as the next step towards making rust free metal and a satisfactory paint job?
