Maobei–I didn’t mean any hate on your end. It’s just that I think Alex is more suited for your style. It’s my honest 3S opinion. Sorry yo. I had way more trouble with him.
So we got a last minute call that our windows will be replaced. So there will be no gathering per se at my house. I’ll be busy cleaning and rearranging furniture on Saturday. I’ll most likely show up at the neo gathering later on… after 8 pm.
I’ve got some other plans for Saturday evening, but I would be interested in heading over to the Neo-Gathering during the afternoon. Maobei and/or Rob, are you guys interested in heading over there early afternoon?
dood… big Mike, i didn’t say i read hate in that
i just said my other characters sucked too badly ;_;
why isn’t Hugo better than Alex… he’s more of a grappler… or you mean that Alex has more mobility for the way i like rushing into things?
so… big Mike’s probably not showing until late-ass in the evening… and Stefan is leaving early evening… and Rob is probably in california… and i’m not anything close to social, so the time between Stefan leaving and big Mike showing up, i’ll be forced to stay with the anti-amateurs all by myself… i dunno if i wanna go ^_^;
if there will be like zero decent fighting going on from
Stefan < gathering < gathering + big Mike, then i’ll be bored and sleeping and/or going home
what time you leaving, Stefan?
I’ll have to double-check, but the thing that I want to go to starts about 7:30 in Edina, so I’d probably leave about 6:45 or 7ish (or maybe earlier to grab some grub).
Plus, you don’t need to be that social to be there. There were a bunch of people last time just playing 1-player games. Or you can just watch other people play games.
what about a tv? boo. so Mike, what’s your final verdict? you 100% gonna show up at 8pmish?
100% baby… i’ll probably bring my daewoo
hmm. so stefan… what’ll we do about a tv beforehand? you gonna bring yours? or soemthing…?
you guys can stop on by and pick up my daewoo if you want… i’ll be home
what up fellas, this is Frank posting at a friend’s computer…i made it here to ohio safe and sound, although the drive sucked…hope you all are cool and your holidays were good. thanks for having me over and enjoying some gaming with you guys while i was there…ill make sure i keep in touch! laters…
Frank
we’ll miss you, guest of honor who didn’t show up due to shitty minnesota weather ;;
Minnesota wanted to say goodbye to you by snowing, but team MN also wanted a piece of that… but Weather, she’s greedy and took you away from us ;;
hope you won’t be bored in ohio, but if you do, come back to coldsville and we’ll play
UUMM…CHUN LE HERE!! :tup:

I’ve returned from my Cali vacation. I must say two things.
No one, not even Cali, escapes Diztempkin.
I still suck at 3S
1a) While I only got to play one good, serious player (A May, at that), at UCLA, I did get to play about 6 different people at FF. I didn’t have ot get up much. It’s the best feeling in the world when someone puts down their quarter on your side, then sees you win like 3 in a row, then they take their quarter and go to the other side.
The Red Brunette Dizzy was the idol of “Hey, go to the other side, I ain’t movin.”
I had to kneel on the chair though, or else it was too awkward for my wrists, and once I lost feeling in my legs I had to fall out of the chair and walk around a bit, then come back.
Finding GG comp is like duck hunting. You have to hide in the weeds (3S) and always keep an eye out on the GG cabinet (ducks). If you are sneaky enough, and quick enough, you’ll be able to catch someone playing before they fly off.
2a)
While MikeZ helped me a bunch with SA2 setups (and also recommended SA2 to me constantly, even when I switched to SA1), I think his best piece of information was that I should start with a different character. Bmike possibly knows my playstyle in 3S the best, maybe he can offer some advice?
Oh, and Adalfo(sp?) the Hugo player owns Ken and Chun for free. I played him once for amusement factor, and yeah, I only played him once.
In closing,
Thanks Mike for havin me over and all that, but always remember that Makoto + SA3 < Ibuki command grab
Oh, and also, uhm, Variety. . . Maybe I just didn’t spend enough time at the 3S machines, but it did seem like everyone was either Ken or Chun, with few exceptions.
The few exceptions were entertaining to watch though, like the above mentioned Hugo, Thongboy’s Twelve/Necro, and of course the gold Makoto with SA3, who owns Ken in like 8 seconds.
I was kinda surprised though, he plays Dizzy and Testament. His Testament was a lot like Stefan’s, and a lot like another person I know. The same mid/high RC combos, same gravedigger loops (down to the exact hits), same mixups, etc. Then, his Dizzy, is so much different than mine. I’ve played against a few Dizzy’s, and none of them have been anywhere near mine, it’s like worlds apart.
Anyway, I then used this idea and watched the Ken/Chun people play. . . It’s the exact same style for every person, which kinda makes me sad. It’s like, you’re no longer playing the game, you’re playing the character. . . If that makes any sense.
More later.
that’s sorta the “follow the leader” syndrome. somebody good plays a character in a certain way, then his/her fanclub will copy suit. then people who keep copying think that they’re good because they play the same way a good player plays… then we have like 29384723987 carbon copies, with only a few good ones in between.
you, however, just run apeshit and do whatever you like and when you see an opening, you’d throw then follow-up with a 20% combo, and most “good” carboncopies try for a big combo every opening, so yeah. you and them are worlds apart: you try to think for yourself
so speaking of variety, what’s going on this weekend? since i’mma already falling with old age, Chronos decided to call me one year older, so in celebration of me getting one year closer to death, i will offer pizza/pop or whatever for wherever we go next, i guess
Actually, Rob, you were there on a day when there was very little 3s, I was surprised. Usually there’s a LOT more Necro, Akuma, Dudley, Oro, and Yun. Only really 2 or 3 Chuns, and 11 or 12 thousand Kens. :^) You also saw the same guys play a lot. The carbon-copying isn’t as bad as you think - it’s a LOT worse in MvC2, so bad I’m pretty much getting sick of it.
The only reason you still like GG is that none of the good people showed up. Mwahaha.
Latest news - almost hypergrav/tempest-like in its technical ability: Makoto stand Short, QCT+hold P, press+hold K, HCB+release K, all within about 1/2 sec. Also off d.Strong or s.Fierce. What a stupidly amazing tick. grab, Fierce, activate Tanden, s.Short into that stuff, grab, Strong link Short into that stuff. Man.
Mike Z
but marvel 2 has like 2938473987 players playing 4 characters… i didn’t even bother mentioning that since it was so obvious
that’s why i can’t stand that game unless it’s lowtier action.
I will be out of town this weekend, so I will miss any gatherings that may occur. I’d like to do some more AE next week, so everyone practice up (especially the new-school folk - read: everyone but bMike). It’s amazing how solid that game is, even though it’s more than 10 years old (in essence).
ST IS SOLID. Okay back to drinking beer…
so… what’s it gonna be? just you and me Mike? with a possible Rob thrown in the mix somewheres?
i want some cvs2. wanna see how Vice works after i figure out her stupid moves
real-time learning is bad. tests in EE classes prove that
