My wife can't sleep while I play STV

This is probably a common story. The only time I really have to play is at night after my wife goes to sleep to sleep a room away. I’ve picked up a budget stick, Mad Catz Alpha for $50. Which I like. It’s certainly nothing special but it’s what I could afford. My biggest problem is that the joystick in there is super loud. Super clicky. It’s louder than the buttons. Even through the wall my wife can hear it.

So my question is, is there anything I can do about it on a budget? Or should I simply look into getting another fight stick. I’ve got some local that’s willing to sell me a Hori RAP4 for $100 that’s in good condition. Would that be any quieter? I would love to get the Hori RAP4 Silent but that’s way out of my price range right now ($180).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

sleeping pills in her dinner? If you havent you should set up furthest from her wall in the room your playing at.
Honestly, my gf could sleep while i played in the same room at night on my stick. Ive never used that stick nor do i know loud it is compared to sanwa/seimitsu flavors, but she probably needs to do a sleep study if its keeping her awake.
Maybe there is a pea under her mattress

Get a silent JLF.

Thanks, I’ll check that out!

Well when she has a couple glasses of wine that seems to do the trick, haha. She’s just a super light sleeper.

I would save up. Worth it in the long run to get an all silent arcade stick. That $50 stick is probably going to crap out on you soon anyway.

Thanks for the advice man. I can already feel the stick I have becoming less accurate. I thought it was “breaking in”. But it’s probably just breaking… lol

Do you have any suggestions besides the Hori RAP4 Silent??

Any used stick that takes arcade standard parts will be fine. Finding a used MadCatz TE on craigslist and just replacing the lever and buttons with silent parts will work. It doesn’t need to be silent out of the box.

Dude I’m so lucky I don’t have a finnicky wife. She doesn’t mind that I play fighting game 6 hours a night and doesn’t care about the noise I make using my Hitbox. I play my games and she does her art and it’s all good. Reading stuff like this really makes me appreciate that chick.

Oh dude. My wife is dope. She doesn’t care that I game at night. Literally just the noise can wake her up. She can’t help it. Props to all the dope gamer wives and gfs out there!

If I could piece something together for a decent price I would totally do that. Ebay prices are insane right now. Y’know? Like the Silent Hori is $180. I would think I’d be getting pretty close to that customizing. Do you think there’s a way to do it cheaper?

Amazon currently has the hrap4 for $112. Pick that up along with either a silent jlf or hayabusa and some thick pads to use as dampeners for your buttons.

I second whoever said saving up and getting the arcadestick that you really want. In my experience, piecing together something usually comes out about the same, or close. Possibly more.

I second armaly. you don’t really need a silent stick, the biggest problem will be the buttons. her the hori stick and order silent sanwas from focusattack or arcade shock.
the buttons would drive my wife crazy at night and when I finally got the silent ones she said it was much better and she could actually sleep.

Duuuude… done. Just bought it. Thanks for passing on that deal! When I get it in I’ll evaluate the noise level again and grab button pads (or silent sanwas).

you might need silent sanwas since iirc the pads don’t fit the busa buttons cause they’re low profile. someone can correct me if I’m wrong though.

FocusAttack pads fit. Tried putting them in about a week ago and tweeted my results to focusattack. The small tabs on the silencers go out through the holes where the plunger tabs go.

Though it does dampen the sound slightly, you might still hear the plunger rattling against the rim, which isn’t that loud anyway. For all intensive purposes, I found it to be silent enough.

good to know. cause I’m getting a vlx for my birthday and wasn’t sure if I needed to replace the busa buttons to something that could fit the silent pads.

Alternatively, you could use this:

Or…

That was actually the first reference I was going to use, but opted for the instruction manual picture instead.

Screw Sanwa OBSFS buttons, or the related pads.

Just get a set of THESE.
