I got the game a couple of days ago and I really feel I need to ventilate my thoughts so far. If the subject’s already been covered then I sincerely apologize but this has to be done.
Now, first of all I’d like to point out that I come from a SF/VF background and have never played a Guilty Gear game prior to Blazblue. That being said, I think I’m catching on pretty fast.
Let me just say, this game has everything one could want, feature-wise. You can save replays of ALL your matches and I haven’t seen the limit yet for how many that can be saved. You have lobbies a la HD Remix and the netcode is brillant from what I’ve experienced so far. Though in EVERY match there are serious lag up until just the second before the match starts and then it’s near flawless. I really don’t know why I’m complaining but I would rather watch a loading screen a bit longer and have everything run smoothly. It just feels unpolished in a way.
The characters are all gorgeous and fun to play but there is one character that breaks the whole BB-experience for me. When I started playing online, I thought I’d see Ragna just like Ryu or Ken in Street Fighter. I didn’t. Up until now, I’ve met a Ragna-player ONCE. Now, I’ve played only about 50 online matches since I got the game but after the first 30 matches or so I decided to count the characters I fought. My results; one Ragna, one Taokaka, two V-13 and 16(!!!) NOEL VERMILLION. I mean COME ON?! The thing is, I don’t blame. She’s awesome; great combos, deals tons of damage, fast as hell and got one helluva Distorsion Drive which covers the entire screen. She’s friggin’ impossible in the right hands. Noel Vermillion single handedly destroyed this game for me. I mean, I will still enjoy playing with my friends but competitively I’m gonna stick to Street Fighter for the time being.
Is Noel Vermillion overpowered or am I being delusional?
Noel is not overpowered. She’s pretty low tier. You don’t know shit. Also, not only is this a total waste of a thread in any forum, but it’s especially a waste because it’s not in the blazblue forum.
I don’t think Noel is that bad, I guess it’s a matter of learning how to fight her. I think she’s the flowchart Ken of BlazBlue. If a lot of newbies are using her, they’re more than likely using her wrong. Try to figure out what they’re doing wrong, and exploit the hell out of it. Don’t know what character you’re using, but 5D from Hakumen > Noel mashing.
According to most tier list, she’s a solid upper mid. Definitely in the same boat as Ragna and Jin. Definitely not any lower for sure. Though I this is all theory fighter, since I haven’t played top BB players in my local area yet.
You should’ve said BlazBlue is the best game ever and that it beats Street Fighter and King of Fighters hands-down while providing no real reasons how or why; then it wouldn’t have been a waste of a thread.
But it’s true that Noel is popular for being scrub-friendly thanks to the D button. More so than Jin’s Ice Car bit.
If she is so low tier then why does everyone pick her? I don’t see it. Explain instead of questioning my knowledge about human excrement. This is the Fighting Game Discussion, what do I post here if not my questions about a particular fighting game?
Its good to here from a 09er, the GG and BB community needs all the love it can get. I’m gald hes not running because its a far more complex game then SF4
Don’t mean to be harsh, but there is a forum for Blazblue, and within that forum, there are threads for both general discussion and Noel discussion. That way, we don’t have forums crowded up with individual threads for everybody’s thoughts on every game.
Also the reason she isn’t good is because she has no real reliable way of getting around ranged pressure from a good arakune or nu. She’s getting picked a lot because people think she’s cool. Also she’s reasonably straightforward to start playing.
I like the game, but complexity doesn’t necessarily make a good game. As I said before SF and BB has two different types of complexity. SF=Stragegic depth, blazeblu = technical depth. I really can’t make a definitive statement and say which one is more “complex” since the focus of the two games are different.
I’ve been playing Litchi since I started and I have gone through her strategy guide and all her combos shown in the tutorial bluray but I haven’t been on the forums yet, my bad.
Just like you said, I’m not running. I want to expand my fighting game knowledge outside SF/VF.
Noel has her own state, too. Some place called Maryland.
And when everyone is just trying to “get by” in a fighting game that they don’t know much about, tiers don’t really matter in their case. Look at Paul in Tekken 5 DR: great beginner character (not too tough to play and you get results pretty quick), shitty once you get competitive.
We’ve already done the “this game is more complex than that game” gig and it didn’t really get anywhere because nobody made any sense since in the end they weren’t out to make any point other than “my game is better than your game.”
I’m sure you’re enjoying the countless Kens and Sagats in online SFIV, eh?
Also, you haven’t seen how good Arakune, v-13 or Rachel are, haven’t you? Way better than Noel.
The latter.
Read up on the forums, watch some vids, get a better idea of the game and practice instead of going instantly online and look at the number of people using who or what.
I agree, the game is, speaking only about features, what ever fighting game should be moving towards.
I think the designers of this game tried to make it a bit more palletable than Guilty Gear was to the general public (less weird, more anime). I don’t know how GGAC got me so burned out on this type of fighting game, but BB has brought it back to the realm of enjoyability for me.
has guns and does moves like christian bale in equilibrium
u can do combos n mixups by mashin the d button
but no she is not overpowered. she lacks a strong anti air compared to other characters and some of the shit ppl mash is hella punishable. just gotta learn the game a little
I’m sure you’ll change your tune once you see her more. But, don’t let that discourage you from playing whoever you want - unless tiers are of a bigger importance to you, then that’s another story.
Just take it easy, learn and spend some time with the game more. I’m sure it’ll shape up better in your eyes once you get everything right and if you’re willing to spend the effort on always improving.
So you guys are telling me that if I learn to punish Noel and get good enough to play higher level players then the “noel”-percentage will decrease? Or are there still a mountain of noel’s after I plow through the scrubs?
I think you guys helped me weather my frustrations and I’ll be heading straight to the Litchi-forum for some VS Noel strategies. I’m still preferring the “less moves, more timing” that is SF/VF but that doesn’t keep me from playing around with other fighters. Although I pretty sure you wont be seeing me in any BB-tournaments in the future
