Well, can you play other disc games? If you can it sounds like some kind of electrical interference (?)

Not entirely sure, you could at least go back to the store where you bought mvc3.

Delete your savedata off the hard drive. It might be in a corrupted sector.
Just takes a few minutes to unlock the characters anyway.

Is your PS3 in a closed cabinet or in an area that is not ventilated? You’d be surprised how many people do this and ruin their PS3/360. My brother in law’s PS3 has recently started acting up and he has it inside of a cabinet (that he closes when he plays!). I warned him so many times but he didn’t listen.

MvC3 crashes PS3

Yeah I had this problem for awhile too. In the end I just bought a new PS3. The shopkeeper I bought it from told me that the issue was probably caused by my PS3 being close to dying and he guessed that the character select screen probably requires the PS3 to spin the disc faster and stresses the PS3 into crashing.

I’ve not touched my old PS3 since I bought a new one, but when I was last using it, I had this problem for 1 entire month without the PS3 showing any other signs of dying besides crashing at the MvC3 character select screen, so I’m taking what the shopkeeper told me with a pinch of salt.

That said… yeah, the problem sucks cause I tried everything I could and nothing seemed to work.
