Working on my first custom stick, and I wanted to make a completely original piece of art for it so…
I drew a picture from scratch and added a “Dragon” kanji I found on the net to it. I’m not that good of a photoshop artist really, I figured I would try something…
As you can see, there’s a lot of “white” negative space too. At this point I don’t know how I can “shop it up” to make it look more visually appealing on a stick. If anyone could give me some advice, I would sincerely appreciate it!
If I were in your position, I’d attempt to color/clean the drawing up in photoshop (there’s some step by step tutorials out there). It’s a good piece, but the clash of digital vs. physical is something that needs polish (up to you though).
Next, I don’t know if you saved your progress, but I’d remove the kanji and text until you’re absolutely done. You need the image moved around so the stick doesn’t mess up the work.
Lastly, backgrounds aren’t too hard. You can also find abstract tutorials through google. Most of them amount to using a couple clicks of the mouse. The only wall you’re gonna run into is blending. You’d have to A: cut out your image (be a little hard unless you digitally paint and polish it up), or B: blend the image in with the background (takes away the artistic value most the time, just depends on a lot of stuff).
You could submit it to one of the request threads here… though I’d try seeing it through yourself, you already got a headstart, so why not.
This was more practice for me to check it out but this was cleaned up,recolored,traced out, and given a background.you can use it if you’d like but don’t feel forced to like i said this was more to see what i could do with it.
