im not even gonna take credit for it, but getting rid of reverse blockable/unblockable is solid.
i can play devils advocate or argue a lot of the other stuff as opinion based, but there isnt a single good thing that comes out of the blocking BS
in fact, i think it actually encourages people to be (gasp) more random on wake up. why even try to play solid if youre just gonna have your eyes tell you the complete wrong direction
thats my number one lab goal whenever i get back around to making futile attempts at being competitive. invalidate that shit
If a setup is truly unblockable, then yeah it should be removed e.g Vanilla ultra/fireball setups, but if there’s a frame or 2 where you can block it, then it’s fine, it only makes corners more scary in a game where stages aren’t exactly small.
I dunno if you’ve been following recent news but… the cool thing to do is to complain about the offense these days. Unblockables, Seth, Akuma, C Viper, Cammy, etc etc.
Also, you know, the high offense characters are widely considered top tier. So, I would say defensive play needs a bit more “promoting”
As for stuff that I think should be added/fixed (maybe all of these were mentioned already but what the hell):
Online training mode
Rematch button
Fix Akuma’s battle theme for ****'s sake! The rival theme that’s used now is nothing compared to his real theme (which is already in the game btw).
Option to record and SAVE stuff in training, with like 50 available save slots or more, it would be so much easier to just play back a setup for testing something with it then going through the hassle of recording it all over, specially with frame tight setups which you can’t replicate easily.
Improve CPU A.I, I mean is it that hard to program the CPU to use bread and butter combos or safejumps every once in a while?
Definitely give us the option to completely skip ultra animations in training mode, that’s the main reason I don’t bother to figure out safejumps after Ultras, they take too fucking long.
Option to change training mode stage or music
Option to show hitboxes in training mode! We already know the game has some bullshit hitboxes Capcom, no reason to not share 'em anymore.
Considering most of those characters are glass canons and the risk of eating reversals is pretty big against them, yeah I don’t understand how it’ll be a big help for them.
I’d love for unblockables to be removed, but they probably can’t be removed barring the kind of work Capcom probably doesn’t want to allocate resources for.
People have suggested that the hitboxes on crossups should be adjusted, that invincibility frames should be added when characters are vulnerable to unblockables, etc. Those things might remove unblockables, but at the same time, they would change many, many characters on a very fundamental level. On top of that, that sort of change would require extensive testing or the game could actually come out worse because of it, and I doubt Capcom would want to allocate the funds for that either.
So yeah, I want unblockables gone, but it probably isn’t gonna happen. But as long as we’re asking for things we’re probably not gonna get, I’d also like the netcode to not suck.
I’m grateful that you’re here to class it up with your insightful posts.
I would like a lot of changes, but I think a lot of people would disagree.
I would like the game to be more friendly or appealing for beginners (or let’s say pad players). Beginners most of the time dont have a stick or dont want to play on a stick (it takes weeks or months to get used to it, so they take the pad).
Now when I show them the game and they are interested in a character, and I show them some stuff. They can’t do things like. Plinking, pianoing, double tapping on a pad. So they directly think they are in a unfair disadvantage.
I for myself use plinking and double plinking etc. I have no problems with it and I understand that it’s in a way a argument for skill or execution (or in the other hand especially not!).
But I think it wouldnt be bad to eliminate the glitch or bug that allows plinking. (Hey I play Abel, so I rely on 1 frame link bnbs, but plinking is just a bug, so remove it). Just make all 1 frame links 2 frame links, it wouldnt destroy the balance, cause for a pro it would make no difference, and for the casual player a big !! So you would actually encounter some people in the internet doing the combos and not just some random shit.
Just a Idea.
Second thing. Make all the 5 input attacks (blanka, honda, chun, gens etc hand and feed and elec) 4 inputs attacks. Seriously, I cant only do the shit with gen and chun but absolutely no chance to do it with blanka. I would get so spasm or muscle desease over long time. I never ever meet a honda or blanka player who can actually combo a light attack into HP elec or hands. If I play against a honda or blanka, 90% of the time they are beginners, doing only rolls or headbutts and slides and sumo smashes, nothing more, the other 10%, I meet a blanka who can do cr.lk, cr.lk, fs.lp xx roll, but not HP elec there either.
So make it a 4 input attack (I think it’s 3 inputs in SF2 !!!).
Ah yes, and remove all unblockables and option selects !
Why only 2 frame links ? I say, let’s make all links 5 frames at worst, so everybody can do it.
And why 4 inputs for Honda ? I say 2 buttons at worst. Press 2 buttons and you get hands.
Also, remove unblockable, option selects, safe jumps, reversals, 50/50s and FADC. You need too much time to learn this game, make it easier. We have to think on begginers, too.
On a serious note, this game is already targeted to the casual crowd, with input leniency and stuff. Nobody is forcing you to play Abel or to do 1 frame link combos, or to play honda and do Hands. The beauty of this game is that you can play it at a very simple level and have tons of fan, but also has a lot of depth. The more time yoiu put in, the more you are rewarded. Your sugestions would simply dumb it down. You just want to be able to do advanced stuff without putting the work. It’s not working this way, son.
I can do this stuff (well, with exception of blankas elec, but I dont play him anyway). Dont call me son, you are problably not even full age. But I liked the fact, that for example in HDR, the inputs where changed in favor to pad players.
The reason why AE appeals to both good and advanced players is that it’s easy enough to pick up but hard enough when you want to master those difficulty timed combos and setups, why change that for lazy people who want to master everything with as little work as possible?
There are many characters in the game that you don’t need to rely on 1 frame links to be good with them, no one forced the beginners to use the hardest characters in the game execution wise.
Also, you don’t need to pull off your character’s hardest combos to be viable even in the tournament scene, look at Valle, he doesn’t use crouching fierce after Ryu’s solar plexus (or whatever that move is called) and goes straight into SRK most of the time to avoid execution error.
