My mind is a'brewin...KOFxi, SSTenka, NGBC BYOC tournies at Evolution 2006?

Dude, please DON’T let the inclusion of MKDS or the exclusion of NEO-related fighters deter you and your buds from attending EVO this year. The Las Vegas NEO fans who attended 2005 had an absolute BLAST meeting all you guys last year, and we’ve all been anxiously looking forward to hooking up with y’all again. We’re putting our heads together tonight to lay out a plan to make our local support structure for the NEO-oriented BYOC area even bigger than last year, but we’re counting on your crew coming back in August to really make it happen.

I believe that EVO will only seriously consider granting official tourney status to NEO-related games when they witness firsthand a strong show of support for those games, both from those who provide the hardware/software and from those who crowd in to play them. The BYOC area is the perfect place to showcase the support that we, as fans, know these games have. The more impressive a display we organize, the more likely it is that: (1) NEO fans who haven’t gone to EVO (because of the lack of NEO competition) will choose to attend, and (2) those who haven’t had the opportunity to try these games will get the chance to do so, and a number of them will like them enough to start adding them to their “must-play” lists. Both of these things will result in more people showing up for the NEO portion of the BYOC area, increasing the likelihood that the EVO staff may become receptive to the idea of including a NEO-related title in their official tourney list.

Those of us here in Las Vegas really enjoyed helping out with the NEO area in BYOC last year, and we’re very much looking forward to doing it again. Please don’t stay away because of preliminary tourney announcements. The locals here are planning to put forth an even greater support effort this year, which we think will really make the trip worth the effort for you. Hope we’ll still see all of you there.

Oscar, this is what really fucking pisses me off about you…ugh…generally, this is about your only flaw in you that i see in you as a friend

I know what you mean. MKDS come on already. I would like to see KOF 2002 or KOF 2003on PS2 make it I Pray to God it does. Don’t give up Hope My Friend. KOF has to be an Offical Tournament.

I was planning on bringing my consolized MVS for the event, I also have 2 PSX to Neogeo converters for it. Only problem though is that it does the box layout only, but I don’t really mind since I can play on any button layout pretty much. But yea I really want to do it on the arcade MVS version so that should not be a problem. If it comes down to it we can do it on the PS2 version as well if people would rather play on that version. Either way I’ll enter all the SNK tournies that will be going on I will also have my copies of NGBC, Tenka and KoF11 when it comes out for PS2. Should be a lot of fun this time around I hope it all works out. See you guys at EVO.

Why would anyone want 2k2 or 2k3 for Evo, when XI is already available.

Anyway, if I do make it for Evo this year, I’ll bring another ps2 w/Tenka and possibly XI as well.

Gotta push GC sometime.

@XTG: how many folks do we have going to EVO2006 that can bring Atomiswaves and/or KOFXI, SSTenkaichi, NGBC software? I’m hoping to get into Atomiswave, m’self, prior to EVO, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to score copies of all 3 of these games by then. The mobo shops I buy from in Akihabara are currently listing NGBC at 29400 yen, SSTenkaichi at 73500 yen, and KOFXI at 90000 yen. Hopefully we’ll get a good price drop on SST and XI before EVO – currently I could spring for NGBC, but the others are still a little pricey for me. Odds of a price drop look good, tho: Mak Japan was asking 84000 yen for SST and 36750 yen for NGBC in mid-March, and with their mid-April restock of both games, the drop to 73500 yen and 29400 yen represents a drop of 12.5% and 20%, respectively.

What about KOF 2006? I was just talking to XTG about that game the other day. It looks good, and if I get a copy I would defenetly give it a chance and pass it around to my peeps.

Not sure if I’ll be going to EvO yet but if I happen to go I would take part in this bunch of goodness.

Y’mean the PS2 release KOF Maximum Impact 2 (JPN name) / KOF 2006 (USA title), right? Planning on getting the import, m’self, shortly – if it turns out to be a major improvement over the original, feel free to ask me to bring mine to BYOC.

–Chris

Dash, we’re broke man  no way anyone up here in WA is going to get a mobo for Tenka, NGBC, or KOFxi…although if anyone can bring the AW versions of each game that would be killer…

im worried more about how much footage or how where gonna cap footage…

Ill be there this year so im down for any SNK games played!

Sorry, XTG – you’re talking about running tournies on the PS2 ports, right? After THE ANSWER mentioned his supergun for MVS MOTW and Hydra632 mentioned his consolized AW for Hokuto no Ken, I got arcade hardware stuck in my head. I’ve already got NBC & SST on PS2, and I’ll have XI before EVO, so I’ll bring my PS2 and these 3 with me for BYOC.

It would be nice to see Sam Sho Tenka (or even 5 Special) at Evo, thats a truly fine game. I’ve alwys been baffled by the lack of an official SNK tourney at Evo. Its not as if Evo gets any sort of help from Capcom, and the SNK crowd is such a massive untapped resourse. I guess its tough for snk fans to settle on one game (all those kofs for starters!!) and the SNK scene seems to place less emphasis on competition than the Capcom one. But I thought there would be enough to gain for most of the people for one game to make it in?

Crayfish.

oh, no worries, arcade or console, bring em all…i basically will be bringing THE TRIFECTA for PS2

This hypothesis has merit. However, it’s also possible that a good portion of the “emphasis on competition” in the CAPCOM scene may be owed to the support those games get at the organized tournament level. I’ve seen posts at a number of forums from NEO enthusiasts who would be willing to come to EVO to compete on SNK titles, but the lack of those games on the tourney roster puts them off. I think that XTG, THE ANSWER, and the other folks organizing the SNK/NEO portion of the BYOC area have the right idea – build up a fan-grown foundation to attract enough NEO fans to get the attention of the EVO staff, convince EVO to add at least one SNK/NEO title to a future tourney roster, and even more fans will come out of the woodwork.

I’ve gotta get 'round to unlocking all the stuff in these games – gotta have Kuroko playable for EVO BYOC.

–Chris

Crayfish: SNK fans don’t organize themselves except for K-Force. I’m not denying there’s a large untapped Neo scene for games at certain spots in the US with large asian/hispanic ethnic populations though. But I already talked about this in another thread.

hey whoever said that they were bringing fist of the north star plz bring it. Me and around 10 of my peeps would love 2 play it in another tourney. I admit that the hnk scene has died down a little here in recent weeks. But we would love 2 have the opportunity to go to evo and rape a whole bunch of ppl. Plus I owe a couple of ppl a ass whoopin from ts6.

Kuroko-only 16 man single elim side tourney? oh my…Art, dont forget, im ex-K-Force and im in Washington, i have ppl willin to go to EVO  so it aint all that bad? oh yeah, Art, to add to your point…there is also a severe lack of domestic SNK fighting game footage as well, tharts a huge issue with me and i hope to help cure this come EVO-time.

ill bring my battle collisium, XI, and Tenka

With all the tournies going on I’ll also contribute for KoF11, NGBC and SS Tenka as well with my copies of the game. I also wanted to mention that me, Magician and Master Giby were planning to do a 3 vs 3 Garou money match versus anyone. The deal is $20 a person so $60 a team, SBO style also so which ever team goes out first that is it. Everyone can use any character they would like, so the whole team can have lets say all Grants or all Tizoc if they wanted. We also wanted to do some singles money matches as well if anyone is down for those. If anything I’ll make a seperate thread for that if not enough people see this one. Let me know what you guys think. Also we are going to be playing these matches on the MVS version or if if you guys prefer the PS2 but MVS is better. Take care.
