lol this shit is comedy.
My #1 problem with Evo over the last two years is that the actual tournament is no longer run by the real Evo staff. I barely trust the long term staff members to run things fairly, but I’ll definitely take them over the alternative that we have been presented with. I’ve been in the community way too long, worked at enough events, know too many people, and seen too many shady dealings to take a tournament like this at face value. There is just no way I can trust randoms to run a pool just because they volunteered. I got screwed last year in my HDR pool and promised never to register again until Evo goes back to their own people to run their event personally.
For the record, I volunteered to run pools this year and never got a response. I was more than willing to help, but I guess they brought in better resources…
Not looking forward to argue anymore. I could’ve made it more clear that my match with Rico was played, and you probably could have put me back in losers bracket in that situation. With 128 people in pool I can understand if you lost track of one person, especially somebody that was in line/stage for 30 minutes.
This is really unfortunate. A similar situation happened with me, though I didn’t get screwed as bad.
The judge for my pool at 2k9 was totally incompetent, and to make matters more obvious, we were close to Pimp Willy’s station, the one that finished ahead of everyone else. So jealous. We waited for hours and hours. I finally played my 1st match on the big screen. After I lost, I came back to my pool, and was informed that I got DQ’d, but I didn’t care that much since I was put into loser’s bracket anyway. It was annoying, though, since I knew that judge had NO BUSINESS volunteering for a job he couldn’t do. $40 bucks for that kind of service??? Ridiculous. But yeah, I got to at least play another opponent, whereas in your case, you seemed to be dropped entirely. That is totally unacceptable and bigger than “a little gripe,” I hope you at least get a refund, man.
EVO wanted to grow big but they never did have a solid plan on how to manage the growth. But shh, don’t ever criticize those in power or those who are popular, especially in this sub-forum. You will get harassed by the cool-crew. Unfortunately it took me 4-5 EVO trips to realize this.
