I’ve been and i’ve seen most of the people who play these games, so my comment doesn’t go without merit. Obviously there are a lot of people who feel the same way.

I don’t play AH, and I doubt Yuki cares. They must have gained legions of new fans with their approach, so it’s not like they need my support whether it’s a good game or not. I need to have that “this game is quality” feeling in my gut before I can bother learning a fighting game. Arcana never really got through to me in that way.
i actually thought arcana looked ugly as hell (the graphics) when it first came out in japan. after i watched couple of match vids, i didn’t care for it, and didn’t think about it for months.
but as i grew progressively unhappy with accent core, i felt like i needed something new to play. so one day, i stumbled upon pre-orders for the ps2 game and the special hrap on play-asia. i give all new games a chance, and liked how the hrap looked… so i booked both without thinking much. luckily for me, this actually turned out to be a really fun game.
even in chicago (where probably highest population of arcana players gather outside the east coast region in the u.s.), most people were really reluctant about playing the game because of the way it looks. but it clicked with almost everybody, once they realized the game play is fun and deep to be entertaining for a long time to come.

Oh I’m not doubting that it can be a good game. But in my situation, GG was like a brand new series for me. I never gave it much of a chance until AC. Maybe since I was so new to it, I didn’t wanna bother with things that seemed like less serious versions of a game I was already struggling to improve at. Kinda like the opposite of what you’re talking about. And I mentioned in some other thread a little while ago that games are more fun when they have universal appeal like SF has. I guess subconsciously knowing that AH was created with the intention of being restricted to a certain target audience takes away some of the interest I might’ve otherwise had.
its pretty easy to get annoyed when the same people that are hardcore fighting game players like the rest of us deride the game and talk shit for all the wrong reasons, like its supposed to be funny or something.
i know in my case, ive uploaded more high level vids of usa/japan play for this game more than anyone else in the usa. a few others, like capps indigo, heartnana, kaneda, tian, and sunazndude, Nas, Hal orka etc etc and others have contributed a lot in regards to gameplay discussion, and you know, trying to give people the impression that we actually play/discuss it seriously because the engine is actually solid, and we’re able to lok past the loli gimmick that this game presents…
then after reading some of the ignorant comments from people that i actually respect (or consider them FG game peers…)

I don’t have to back anything up. The proof is in how our society and others perceive things like this. There’s a reason why a lot of these games are hated on, it’s how the player’s and games themselves are portrayed. Just read the ops post is you want proof.
Also a lot of you are taking some comments out of context. Obviously not all mb/AH etc. players are “anime people”, but a lot of them are. And you CAN’T deny that’s the demographic these games are aimed at. Just like gameplay can target a certain demographic of players, the way a game looks and it’s characters do also. How people percieve things does not mean shit. For example, middle aged people percieve video games in general very poorly and cite them for a lot of problems they aren’t responsible. Just because a lot of them think that does not make it true. Similarly, just because a lot of fighting game fans think people play AH/MB because of some loli fascination doesn’t make it true. You’ll notice none of the people that think that play the game themselves.
The original complaint was that this game catered to some pedo crowd, and now you’re back pedaling to that it caters to anime fans. If you don’t like the art style, fine, don’t play it. I’m not trying to make converts here. My gripe is that you, and others stereotype the people that play these games as sexual deviants, when you really have no proof. If liking anime is enough to make you a pedophile, then you’re making a huge jump in logic.
