i think your friends are being kinda ignorant… but just like how some people in the u.s. dislike “newer games,” the same stands true in japan.
when i started playing arcana, i dug through a lot of japanese wiki and old bbs transcripts. although the game as a whole is very successful and most people pretty much view it as the best 2d fighting game franchise since guilty gear, there are others who dislike it for the reasons you stated (all teen girls cast) as well as it being combo-heavy.
what i’m kind of surprised is that you’re from okayama, part of kantou region… which is where arcana is most popular. so your friends are probably in the minority.
i get kind of turned off by some of the visual elements in arcana myself, but the game itself is very enjoyable. i think overall, it’s very nicely designed game. it’s definitely the most fun fighting game i’ve played since guilty gear in my book.
that’s actually part of the reason why i could never get myself to even think about playing hokuto no ken.
Arcana Heart makes you pedo. One look at Kira, and I knew this game was not for me.

as much as people want to pretend to be cool or whatever, a grown man playing video games **competitively **is geeky no matter what. gg? marvel? st? none of that shit matters.
even in japan, fighting game in general is considered a niche genre for otaku. it’s not much different than how people view things in the u.s.

well i did say that my friends where just teasing me. they where just joking around with me. but when i asked their opinions about the game, they didn’t act all snobbish n shit. so no, i don’t feel that they where being rude in any way shape or form. i DID ask them why they dislike the game so much.
i think that the only people who would find my friends attitude twords AH ignorant are hard core fans of the series. they didn’t say anything bad about the game play or its innovations (which is really bullshit since AH stole a shit load of mechanics from other fighters and put them together in a more interesting way) they where telling me what they and (weather you believe it or not) MANY other Japanese fighting game fans are worried about.
i could understand if they said, people who play AH are dumb or child molesters, but thats not at all what they said or what they think.
and sorry you are wrong. my friends are from Fukuoka (the place i was visiting on my vacation) and i have yet to see any people playing AH in the Okayama arcades these days, none at all.

I didnt even know this game was in SBO I tend to ignore these newer games. I know we get mad sometimes because the mainstream gaming communities dismiss street fighter for being 2d, yet a lot of us here are dismissing arcana heart because we think it looks girly. are we not better than this? shouldnt a game be considered good simply because of its mechanics and not because of the character design?

remember, i do own the game and i love it. i like the colorful art and everything minus the music and that fruity intro. what is worrying my friends and their friends is if 4 or 5 years down the line ALL popular fighting games will be all kiddy n shit. and in japan, that dosent help the growing number of rapes and guys not being able to control themselves around females they are not to have.
a lot of people dont know it but sex crimes in japan are bizzare as all fuck. theres allways some guy getting arrested for stealing some chicks dirty underwear, there used to be a vending machine you could buy used underwear, countless amounts of females are raped, groped, and whatever els can be done to them on just the trains here alone. a guy right now is going to jail for raping and beating a woman on a public train while the other passengers (too scared to do anything) just let it happen.
japans a safe place compared to America but i think my friends are worrying from their country’s history of sexual problems.
i like that every fighting game has a mix of style and art every time.
but just as me and my friends are happy that not every game looks like or is trying to be street fighter, i guess we would feel comfortable knowing that not every other 2D fighting game that comes out down the line will be like AH.
