It’s 6:50 AM here, and my friend and I just got done playing some Potemkin (me) vs. Ky (him) matches that we started around 5:30. Every single match, he would complain about the Potman, saying everything ranging from how his Potemkin Buster is WAY too strong to how 63214S’s “invisible bullet…must be 3 miles wide!” Simply put, he HATES my Potemkin… He said he even hates him more than my Cammy on CvS2 I tried to tell him that Potemkin is definitely NOT top tier, but he just wouldn’t listen to anything I had to say. So what I’m asking is: Why ISN’T Potty top tier? And if you think he is, why? I just want some other people to give us their opinions.
Also, if this is in the wrong forum, could one of the mods be so kind as to move it to the proper one? I’m not talking about #Reload for Live, so I figured it would go here. I’m new and still learning my way around
Potempkin may not be absolute top tier, but he’s far from the bottom.
Probably high second tier. About the same place as Ky, with the edge going to Potempkin.
Yes, I know some people place him even higher. But that’s just my opinion.
However, GG tiers are very close together. It’s usually just about the players skills.
In a normal fight you can afford to take risks as long as neither player is at a very high skill level. You can take some hits. Not true with Potempkin. A lot of low level players get crushed by him because the just rush in and get punished.
I know this is all very very basic advice, but it’s true. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen frantic sol’s and ky’s get beasted by Potempkin. I don’t know who’s “supposed” to win that matchup, but the Potempkin player has an easy win if it’s the “standard” sol or ky player.
To be fair though, we can’t go without listing his drawbacks.
-Speed. He’s slow on the average. Some of his moves can double as a dash but get punished big time when blocked. A good player can get him up to decent speed but there’s no way he’s going to track a good Millia. The Potempkin player will have to rely on his own reflexes and zoning skills to counter and pressure the opponent.
-Predictability. Probably his biggest flaw. He doesn’t have enough variety within his attacks to surprise an opponent. The opponent can expect how he will attack. His alternative approaches arent’ as good.
I think I’m going to quit now before I put my foot in my mouth. I don’t know enough about him to go further.
What the hell? Ky should have the advantage over Potemkin with his range and speed. Getting pot bustered and finger flicked are usually mistakes that happens to people who aren’t used to the matchup, and blindly rush in.
Like what was said about Potemkin hough, Ky does have the disadvantage of being predictable also.
Have you been doing his Heavenly Potemkin Buster every time he jumps? That’s always priceless.
I’m pretty sure both Ky and Sol have the advantage over Potemkin. I think its 6-4 for both of them. Does anybody have the Arcadia chart for #reload handy?
Potemkin is good because of his matchup against Slayer. If you only learn Potemkin for that one matchup, he’s already paying off.
I can’t type because I am in the library at school but Ky loses the matchup. Potemkin isn’t over powered though your friend is just an impatient retard.
I know i posted only potempkin perks… but his flaws are obvious, he’s big, dumb and slow… but not as dumb and slow as other pile driver chars… Zangief for example. I think he a very versitle “360” char
the properities for the potempkin buster (pot buster… hehe) seem awsome. once i tried to sweep him with baiken at full sweep distance… and i got pot busted… I was like WTF!!!
Eddie is a guessing game… usually they try to cross you up everytime then trap you with eddie, i just give them 2 reps before i can counter with a hammerfall. s. HS , FDB, or heavenly. just getting one busta onem is gonna turn the match around for you so patience is the key factor here. Also when you jump with either air S or a. D, a game of rock paper scissors happens. They either jump, block, or duck; and you can do heat, buster, and qcf+p. You just gotta be psychic with that shit =].
wtf, Johnny? Johnny’s zoning game is good against Pot, but his pressure game is hella vulnerable to reversal backdash and 6K. Otherwise, it’s just 50/50.
Uhm, Eddie’s standard pressure game is totally immune to Hammer Fall, HS, FDB, and Heavenly.
