I have this wonderful black cat named Mowgli. He is only 4 years old and he’s such a sweet and playful little guy.
Something happened to him over the past month that made him really sick. He’s been unable to go to the bathroom, and he’s been making awful pained noises whenever he tries. I took him to a vet and they told me he needed emergency care. So now he’s at a pet hospital with a catheter in him, and I’m being told he may require major surgery since his urinary tract keeps re-blocking without the catheter, and his kidney enzyme levels are only going up.
I own a bunch of cats, and he’s the only male. None of my other girl cats were affected, so we didn’t suspect anything was wrong until he started taking too long in the litter box. I’m told that this most often happens to male kitties, and it might be the dry kibble we’ve been feeding him.
I’m raising money to try and soften the blow of this situation; I don’t expect to get fully funded, but anything would help at this point.
for that amount you should put him down. $6000 could be used to help other people in need. i could see something like $400 for a pet but what you’re asking for is way too much especially since you have other cats. i don’t mean to be insensitive but i can’t donate for this.
I get that it’s easy to say you “should” put a pet down from an outsider’s perspective, after all it’s not your pet and you don’t feel the same things that I do.
I totally understand, but this isn’t really a matter of having other cats or not. It’s not like breaking a dish where it’s no problem because you have other dishes. These creatures are alive and they mean something to their owners.
It’s a long shot, but have you reached out to any Veterinary schools? Sometimes you can get a student or students to do an operation in the school as part of their curriculum. It would be MUCH cheaper, but there is a risk that it won’t go well because they are inexperienced. Also, it’s usually booked. But it’s worth a try.
Another possibility is Care Credit. It’s basically a credit card for medical expenses. I’ve recently spent $8,000 on 2 surgeries for my 4 year old dog. I’m in debt, but it was worth it.
Pets die. Man up. It sucks but that’s life. Life gets much harder than this no-brainer decision. Hmm put cat down…Or pay $6k? Wtf…Why is this a difficult process?
Hell, it’s one thing if you had the $6k yourself…But you want ppl to help you fund it?? Fuck off
You just letting your cat suffer while trying to raise money…The humane thing to do would be have him put down
I’d be devastated if my cat Aesop died. I just had to drop $2K to run tests and diagnostics. He was losing weight and vomiting and not eating. Turns out he has inflammatory bowel disease, which is treated with long term medicine. I have to give him a pill every other day for the rest of his life. If it was anything more serous than that we likely would have had to put him down. Vets are fucking expensive.
I can’t afford to help right now, I’m paying off some debt. But I do wish you luck, man. I know how much it sucks to have pets get sick on you.
