So I made a post recently asking for advice on a first stick and after loads of great info from @Darksakul and a link to a cheap brawlstick on ebay from @ChaoticMonk I bought it and am overall happy with it.
When I first plugged it into the pc I couldn’t assign any buttons to emulators(it kept crashing the program) after a lot of messing around I discovered the yellow button was faulty and had been rapidly sending a signal without being pressed. So I opened it up and disconnected the faulty button and switched it with one from the far right as I dont use them. After that it was working properly.
My only problem is the joystick feels like crap, upper diagonals need to be slammed to register and the square gate isnt for me. So I’m looking to order a sanwa JLF. My question it do I need a specific model to fit the brawlstick. I remember reading somewhere that you need one with the pcb rotated 90° to fit, is this right? If so what would be the correct model to get?
You may not like square gate because you are not used to it, but square gate is how every game is designed. I would recommend trying it out and sticking it out for about 2 or 3 weeks until you adjust. You just got the stick after all. JLF will still have a square gate. If you want a joystick without a gate then get a Seimitsu LS-32 or LS-56 since you can remove the gates and screw down the switches. There are also circle and octagonal gates for them as well as the JLF, but the JLF can’t be used without a gate, but you should be able to remove the inner gate so that you aren’t having your lever restricted. In fact, before you buy that JLF, try pressing down on the tabs that hole in the gate has and twisting it out. If you do that, you will no longer have square restriction.
As for the joystick, that sounds like a problem, but without the gate restricting it, you won’t need to worry about those corner issues.
Do not forget that the stock joystick and buttons found in Brawlsticks are crap. Once you’ve upgraded the parts you will notice an immediate difference.
Failing that you can get octagonal and circle gates for the JLF.
Whats the difference between the JLF-TP-8YT and the JLF-TP-8YT-SK? Besides the shaft cover.
Also theres like an £8 difference on ebay between the two… seems kinda crazy.
SK is a silent version which uses different microswitches so you don’t here the loud ‘clicks’ as it registers the directions.
If you don’t care about sounds then save the money but if you do then £8 is worth it (says my wife lol)
Ignore, I’m stupid
SK is the product code for the shaft cover and washer set.
The code for the ‘silent’ joystick is completely different.
And the only reason because the £8 price difference is because the company Gremlins (aka arcadeworlduk) have a monopoly on the UK market and can charge what they like.
