MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

For the top tier post patch I would say everything works except Captain Marvel and Sigma. Haven’t seen anything from them that clearly makes them top tier. Captain Marvel does pretty well vs characters that don’t have abusive heavy buttons/specials with her armor (she isn’t bad vs Gamora because of this), but she doesn’t seem to (yet) have the mix up strength you would need to be in high tier. Doesn’t have anything that overheads and crosses up super easily which is pretty much required to be top tier. Sigma might be top tier as a support character, but still don’t see any good reason why he would be an S tier point or S tier overall.

High tier I agree with parts of since it would put Gamora at least at the bottom of top 10 (although I do still think she’s top 10 at the minimum). Strider Hiryu after the nerfs has potential to be top tier because he has a lot of good tools on point and for support. Ouroboros has very durable projectiles and is tough to stop once he activates. Not sure why Megaman or Thor are in high tier. They’re decent, but don’t see anything about them that should put them past mid tier. Monster Hunter and Megaman should not be in the same tier at all.

Mid tier: Somewhat agree with although it’s arguable that Morrigan,Strange and probably Haggar are all candidates for high tier at this point. Morrigan has probably the new best air dash H in the game after Ultron’s got nerfed and provides solid support for a point character and strong defensive options for one as well. Chris Redfield should probably still be in C tier since they didn’t give him anything that buffs his mix up or ability to hit up at the sky which are still his two main issues.

Ryu and Frank West I guess are about where they should be. Frank with Soul stone should likely be B tier at the minimum.

Hulk and BP aren’t amazing, but Hulk at least certainly has what I feel is near the best level 3 in the game since it freeze frames you into huge damage if you’re not blocking when he activates. Also clouds up the screen pretty well for mix ups. BP will likely be a pain to deal with once people start using power stone with him. We already see the shenanigans people are doing with Power Spiderman and BP is basically attaching that to a character that can constantly cross you up in the middle of the screen. Fly across the wall hit power stone/tag sounds pretty strong.

Don’t agree with capt marvel or sigma in S
Don’t think black widow will be A
I think your B tier is all wrong, most of them should be A
Hulk and Frank should be B
And ryu/BP should be C

In my opinion

S tier can do it all with good screen control & crossup potential and has a hard to stop gameplan in optimal conditions.
A generally has moderate screen control & crossup potential against most teams or adds so much support that they’re "worth it"
B Needs someone else to be effective due to limited screen control/crossup potential, or excelt at one or the other and their support can be good, but only good for some.
C These characters are carried by their team and generally don’t lend much to their partners.

That being said, I think Sigma falls somewhere between a B+ and A -.

I just noticed that characters each have their own unique tag distance, for instance Venom’s is full screen where as Black Widow’s is only half screen. Probably old news but there you go, only noticed because my team is Bucky/Venom and my combos didn’t work with Black Widow.

Bucky’a projectile armour is fucking insane, 100% counter to Reality Surge. Qcf+p absorbs most projectiles and beams for its duration and can be used to punish, but is not active enough to punish hyper beams, that’s what dd+p is for. I believe qcf+kk is invincible, at least projectile invincible, it can be used during beams in combination with qcf+p to punish, some characters from full screen.

Yeah Monster Hunters dash is pretty ass too. One of the reasons why I stopped rocking her with RR as I have muscle memory from my combos with Firebrand to deal with.
She just can’t launch the same from that position. Firebrand and her got jokes though.

I like Bucky because he’s just a well grounded character, he’s not top tier by any means, but he’s fun to play with, especially with Black Widow. Bucky/BlackWidow is one of my
teams, both work well with Time Stone as when combined with switch and surge you can take advantage of Black Widow’s projectiles mid combo where you otherwise couldn’t. Bucky is like a keepaway screen filler and she’s a rushdown screen filler, they have good chemistry and fulfil both roles together. In fact I think all three new DLC characters have good chemistry, I mix and match the three until I’m set on a main. I definitely want to main Bucky/Venom, but I want to learn Black Widow as well, she has so much utility. All three are great characters.

Venom gotta be top tier… Spiderman too. Venom is easy mode w high damage and makes any team better. spiderman takes work but with it hes easily at the top.

No way X is A… No way sigma and captain marvel are S.

Monster hunter and thanos also should be debatably lower.

I can’t give anyone top tier for damage alone, since if you’re not sloppy most characters can do that kind of damage.
I prefer to call them “tournament friendly.”

Spider-Man is upper echelon for absolute sure, he’s the Storm of this game, super fast “tri-dash” pixie with optimal mobility. His instant overhead crossups, yes I said that, are too fast. He can be on the screen anywhere he wants to be at almost any time and then boom he’s back in your face, on which side is up to you to guess. Venom shares the same projectile nul property, but is slower just with greater damage. I’d say Spider-Man > Venom at end game considering mixup and reset potential, but both great characters.

Yeah Venom likely won’t be as good on point as Spiderman, but he fills a role of being a much better support character while still being capable on point.

  • Calls Venom top tier because of easy mode + high damage
  • Also says no way Sigma is S tier.

Man, those are like two flavors of the same thing.

Anybody got data on Venoms fang on block? Just checking if it’s online hiking that I can’t interrupt him with my 4 frame jab.

If you’re talking the grounded one, Jedah’s 5 frame jabs punishes him if he presses buttons very easily so it must be slow reactions or online.

The air one is plus on block (if you’re on the ground and block it) so you can’t interrupt that. Don’t have the exact data because Killey is being really slow uploading data, but that’s a guide at least. Chicken blocking it makes it minus on block.

Either way if they have a tag partner it’s always going to be plus.

Yeah, must be online then. I was on the ground and so was he and he interrupted me before my jab registered. COULD be a rocket thing too, there’s some characters whose recovery is further out than his stubby arms can reach.

Yeah Venom’s c.LP is long AF so that could be an issue

So is everyone still in agreement that Firebrand is still a top tier character? Top 10 maybe?

I feel that Venom and Monster Hunter could take some top tier spots based on what I’ve seen online and tourneys (Chris G with MH). Other than those two taking up top spots, I think Firebrand is still a top 10.

I think everyone would agree that Firebrand is a good character. Whether or not he’s near the top depends on who you ask.

I think he’s Top 10 easy, but I’m biased.

Firebrand is definitely Top Tier and Top 10.

That character has absolutely everything. Movement, zoning, lockdown, wall carry, good supers, you name it.

You aren’t seeing more of Firebrand because he isn’t popular but make no mistake. Firebrand is an absolute beast.

DevilJin - Agreed on Strider. Strider is borderline Top if not Top in this game. I’m convinced that he is Top 10 material.

About Sigma, he is the Paul Phoenix of this game. Make a mistake and you’ll be deathfisted, LOL! Plus, along with the tackles which are great with the tag system because of range, armor and angles, he has good to great range with good hit confirms, one of the Top 3 Lv.1 supers in the nuke and jmp.HK/HP pressure is real along with real Jedah style lockdown with dimension rifts and tags. I understand his weaknesses and agree that he is not Top 5 material but his strenghts are there and are too good to ignore. Borderline Top Tier to High Tier material, not lower than that.

About Chris, his buffs alone make him viable compared to all the guys at the bottom. Hulk only has his Lv.3 (great Lv.3 but can be interrupted after the second quake) and jmp. dHP, nothing else. Frank West isn’t that good even at Level 4-5 levels even with his paddles holding opps up for tag setups. He has no zoning since even his zombies can be reflected. He is only good for roll crossups. Frank is strictly support but there are much better support characters in this game. At least he ain’t Low Tier…if you level him up. And Ryu is Ryu. A damage machine for sure and scarier than the Hulk in that regard but yeah, Ryu. QCF Air Tatsu shenanigans are legit though.

Chris right now is better than all that. EAT LEAD!!!

About Megaman, he is a wall that can rushdown pretty good with Air dash HP/HK with high priority and his blasts are legit wall material since can’t be reflected plus his screen control and AA is legit and demands respect. His Buster super is great and armored up, dangerous.

About Thor, small jump Mjolnir is a decent lockdown, his kara throwing is dangerous, he has the best overhead in the game and all his supers are useful plus Mighty Strike full armor and big damage along with very good movement.

And yesterday, I had a long session against Capt. Marvel. Carol’s Absorber + Blitz Blow cancel dash mixups are legit. Great Battery, good damage with stairs and excellent support with her command throws and Absorber. Absorber is kinda OP if used correctly.

In fact…

Fixed a little.

Any reason you think raccoon is only b tier? I would have have him in A or possibly even in S
