MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

I also use Thanos plus Time Stone to get in with Ryu. Sometimes I’ll do Thanos projectile then tag Ryu Shimmy plus Time Stone so I can pick if I want to stay in front or go behind.

Now Thanos Nullify is real, I won a whole match against a zoning team with it. That shit goes through supers. Start up is the only lack lustre thing about it.

Rather pissed off right now. Don’t think I can play Arthur anymore. He has good shit, but some properties of his moves are just… wtf:

So apparently thanos and Thor can almost fully counter arthur if they run reality.

My homie was using thanos and doing reality>thanos fireball.

Unless I go gold I literally can’t beat this. To many hit points on the fireball. So I have to jump around and do dumb shit until I get hit or something, but he basically controls the neutral since Arthur has nothing to beat it outside gold armor, which makes my damage subpar since I don’t have meter for super Enders.

Oh and he also has a port and a fireball reflect and the easies damage combos ever. So that’s nice.

Thor… hammer goes through all my zoning and combos from full screen… fucking great.

Like what was capcom thinking… idk. But it’s bullshit.

Thor hammer just ignores other fireballs, thanos lk fireball basically has 6 hits in it so it goes through everything.

And what’s more fucked up I was getting outzoned by an IM yesterday and my IM was zoning him out better than than my Arthur.

Seriously fucked up especially when those anti zoning moves can basically be done for zero risk.

IDK… lol I’m down on this shit don’t agree with command grabbers having anti projectile tools that get them in for free or give full combo on hit. Just seems like bad design tbh.

Reflect the reality ball with AG

I think they were okay with characters being hard counters to each other because of the team nature of the game, and the gems obviously.

Which isn’t to say you might not need to switch. But Arthur definitely has some stuff other characters are jealous of.

I love fighting people with Reality Stone who just spam it. I use Thanos Nullify and tag into Ryu for a free combo. Also I found out Thanos’s Nullify can go through some supers. He is so cool.

The nullify is a projectile counter that will counteract any projectile based attack.

Most of the issues you mention here are fixed with gold armor. Saving meter for combo enders is not worth it imo. Better off ending in a knockdown or reset-favorable position. Gold armor helps you do that.

I guess what I’m saying is use gold armor more. You’ll be less salty.

Thanos does seem rough for Arthur. At least you’ve got time stone to maneuver around his stuff though. Melee Arthur doesn’t seem horrible if you are forced into it, since he has a real mixup game now. Also does anybody know what his shield move does? That might help if it’s an anti projectile move. Can you reflect Thanos fireball and Thor hammer with advancing guard?

I think in Marvel 3 Arthur’s shield was an attack counter. Don’t remember if it worked on projectiles.

Most annoying thing online is no matter what if someone wins or loses 2 in a row they quit. WTF bro, play the gotdamn game a while. Learn the matchups.
Good news is I’m tagging almost seemleess and even counter threw a tag a few times. I’m reflecting reality fireballs semi regularly and not hitting them with my face.
Funny thing is jumping into them can fuck you up because of air control. Got a tip to just do instant j.L with Coon or instant j.P with Firebrand and just tag for easy combos
as I’ve been trying short hop IOH’s this entire time.

Needless to say I’m winning a lot more and yes, watching Sonic Fox’s Coon neutral made a world of difference. I need a firebrand to MAME up now.

two tournaments under iron mans belt ahhhh so nice to be part of the Iron Army right about now tbh

Yeah, my only option to outzone meterless grapplers is for my hard zoner to use meter which makes him the lowest hp character in the game and puts him into a knockdown state, plus makes my team lower damage.

Nothing wrong with that at all…

I’m not saying you aren’t correct, but there’s a balancing issue there. Even when I do go gold I still have to worry about the port so it’s not like it’s free pressure or anything either.

Zoning in this game is pretty difficult. While I don’t play Arthur I can understand your frustration. You shouldn’t be hesitant to use golden armor in order to control neutral. As others have pointed out ending combos with super isn’t worth unless you’re going to kill. I suggest using reality since it’s a free projectile that allows you to put more stuff on the screen. It seems to work alright for me when I use it with MM.

Thor hammer I haven’t tried yet but probably not since Thor keeps control of it until the second hit, seems like something capcom would do, thanos fireball doesn’t seems as if it can be reflected, I tried. I was reflecting reality last night though, it’s not hard, but kinda dumb and boring that the game revolves around reflecting projectiles. It’s a mechanic I seriously hate.

I couldn’t beat this guy at all with time stone because he literally uses reality all day. Under pressure>reality
Coming down from a super jump and don’t want the mixup>reality, super jump>reality to stop jump pressure and land into thanos fireball.

Combine that with the fact that time stone can be option select dashed on and baited pretty easily and time stone just wasn’t working, so I had to use my own reality spam BS to compete.

The decision to make projectiles on block or whiff not build any meter was a really big blow to zoners. Building resources and frustrating your opponent with obnoxious chip and projectile patterns from long distance has always been a part of marvel games. Its so frustrating trying to play Dorm in a zoning manner, you have 95% of your meter and you’re pelting them with pillars waiting to get that stalking flare, yet nothing comes. Or your opponent is on 1% life and you’ve made them block four dark holes, and they’re still not dead. It just leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

Imo there should have been a stone that specifically catered to those who wanted to play in a zonery/chippy manner. Like the storm would have enhanced the chip damage on all projectiles or something.

Yeah, zoning has been all sorts of nerfed unfortunately. I can dig it because in the past it seemed pretty dumb, but capcom has done capcom and gone way overboard:

  1. Can be reflected now
  2. Like almost zero chip damage
  3. Beams and shit become weaker from afar
  4. Ridiculous amount of teleporting characters
  5. No meter ON BLOCK? Or wiff makes them pretty terrible… didn’t know about on block. No wonder I felt so meter starved when all my opponent was doing was blocking.

So basically 2 of the primary blockbeaters that projectiles used to have are now gone:

They no longer build meter unless they hit, and they no longer do much block damage at all.

What’s the fucking point of having a fireball then I wonder? At this point all they do is cover areas for you, and that’s nowhere near good enough when hard zoners don’t have the mobility that the pixies have.

Seems like yet another over reaction on capcoms part, to make sure no morridoom happens again.

I can dig it, but if they want to make the game play like that then throw the zoners a bone and give them some decent movement options at the very least.

I feel really sorry for Hawkeye. The system completely fucks him over. I do think he has some juice with ice arrow and gimlet tag stuff but thats about it. None of the stones really do anything for him, he has no high low mixups to take advantage of the tag lockdown, and he doesn’t do any of the scary chip damage/meter building he used to be able to in MVC3.

The tag system isn’t good to allow heavy chip because then you could likely remove 30 percent chip from the opponent, tag into Black Panther who gets cover from a shot ton of assists and then kill the opposing character for one meter or less. The meta would just turn into chipping people out and then killing with simple 1 meter combos. It would likely invalidate a lot of teams that aren’t capable of that.

Projectiles are still extremely dangerous because of the new tag system. You can cloud up the screen and move behind hit boxes in a way that would break some characters in Marvel 3.

combo scaling is weird

do cambo

get 6.7k

add a jumping fierce attack before it

get 6.5k

i meant discussion thread but whatever choke on it deal with these musings!!!

Yeah, it’s pretty shitty. I feel like if they wanted this game to be a spaz happy noobfest, why even put projectile characters in the game?

So LOL, at this point the game has weak defensive options and weak projectile options. It’s literally no footsies, the game.

Unless I’m missing something this game is basically sf5 in marvel form.
