MvCI Meta and Tier Discussion

Strider looks good. Self reliant pixie character that can set up his own pressure, has good assist type moves to set up pressure for other characters and of course gets better with other characters that can set up tag pressure for him. Health is normalized in this game so he effectively has more health than he did in Marvel 3.

Captain America seems similar to before. Can amount decent pressure and keep people honest with a projectile that can convert into full combos. Plus has what should be an invincible DP, a counter move that counters both attacks and projectiles and benefits further from the new system allowing everything to OTG. Just Captain’s main problems will probably still be here in this game as his mobility isn’t the greatest (double jump at best which they didn’t even give back to him until Ultimate) and he’s likely just not scummy enough pressure/mix up wise. Luckily this is a tag based game though so he probably can provide good tag support for another character. Characters that have invincible DPs might have a niche in this game as they always have a meterless out of the oppressive pressure and can tag into another character. Everyone else has to burn meter to panic out of pressure.

This reminds me that I’ll have to actually learn something about Arthur in this game. I think the game mechanics make him more viable than in Marvel 3 so it’ll be good to brush up on what he has and understand him more in the meta. He’s not really my type of character though and no one I knew really played him. Which meant when I saw him on stream in 3 I pretty much acted like he wasn’t on the screen. I think people will notice him in this game.

Haven’t seen too much of Arthur so it’s difficult to say how good or bad he is. He seems to have better tools this time around so it’ll be interesting to see how he develops. I think the free lvl 3 in storm coukd be really good for him.

check out bums stream. good arthur. if i have ever seen one for that matter

Astral Vision does clone the power, and soul surge, but you won’t be getting anything out of it because they just rocket into the sky once it hits for power, and I’m not sure if you get any bonus health from the soul surge.

Edit* You do not gain any bonus heath from soul surge.

What are the moves with invincibility in this game? Because now that I’ve seen Ryu/Nemesis on stream, looks like the early top tier stuff is ā€˜do an invincible move and use tag to cancel your recovery’.

When you say moves I assume you’re talking about special moves. There are only 3 characters with invincible specials that I know of. That’s Ryu, Captain America and Haggar. I think everyone else has to rely on supers for invincibility. Although I believe super into tag will also be strong.

Question for those ahead of me (all of you lol)

Which of these characters would form a good team

Captain Marvel, Dormammu, Hawkeye, Zero, Thanos

Thanks!

Thanos/dormammu is the best team in the game

I would go with Capt Marvel and Dorm. Fchaml has a lot of stuff with this team so you can learn a lot from him.

Also keep in mind that Haggar’s Lariat is grounded, unlike Shoryuken or Stars & Stripes. Not only can you tag convert, but using his qcf.PP super or Infinity Storm should give you a free combo on hit. Unless there’s some air activation/Shoryuken xx Shinku Hadoken jank I don’t know about.

Super counts too, check out what people are doing with Ryu/Nemesis.

It’s only theory fighter at this point in time but I really think strider/Arthur has a chance at being a good team.

Strider point for the round start, then back teleport into Arthur to get Arthur in at full screen. Can also just call both of striders animal buddies and cover ground and air and tag to Arthur giving him great screen coverage to start out with.

Strider also has lots of ways to setup dumb crossups like flying over the opponent then tagging into his team mate while the opponent is switching directions to block.

This is a good mixup because if strider cancels into tag early, then his homie comes in and doesn’t crossup which will mess up the opponents blocking, but if strider tag cancels late after he recovers, then the tag will come from the side he’s on and not crossup, alternatively strider can choose not to tag at all and just come down with a normal…

Combine that with his animals and teleports and animal crossups to time stone teleport or regular teleport and this team is pretty golden in the neutral and has major stuff for mixups as well. Biggest problem the team seems to have on paper is dealing with pressure, but pushblock into super jump or teleport stone should cover this decently.

An hour or so till I get online and start testing things out.

I think Rocket Raccoon is secretly a top-notch assist character. Being able to lay traps all over the screen makes keepaway much easier. He’s also a walking can opener with all his instant overheads (I think one of the Groot attacks is an overhead too), so played properly he can complement a variety of playstyles. Even other mix-up heavy characters can get use out of lockdown from his Spitfire Twice projectile. Best stones are most likely Power for making his pressure deadly, Time to teleport with his projectiles and do resets during Time Storm into a st.HP xx f.HP loop, or Reality to flood the screen with hitboxes as large as he is.

Frank’s headbutt charge might be your functional replacement for his Shopping Cart assist. I wonder how Infinity Storms affect his ability to level up? I imagine you might be able to get away with some dirty stuff during Reality or Soul storms by comboing from his OTG photograph into another one. Also, an AA throw hyper is pretty uncommon in this game and could open up interesting options vs characters that take to the skies like tridashers or Jedah.

Nevermind

Rockets spitfire has shit durability and gets eaten up by a lot, his super is pretty ass for super lockdown too as it doesn’t cover much vertical space. Frankly with the much slower rocket skates, jumping grenade being duckable, inability to lay multiple super traps etc he’s pretty nerfed compared to what he used to be. Granted that took a lot of execution. (Yes, I know it’s a new game but did you know how LONG I grinded for boulder trap loops lol) It also seems his hurtbox is bigger than before, gotta be careful with those buttons or be out ranged. I dunno, the other coon was much more fun.

LOL… Arthur got them loops:

Launch, superjump jhp xx axe, land, jhp xx axe (repeat 2-4 times) axe xx super (5k) not bad for a little zoning dude.

I think mind gem can be useful. It seems to be only really good if you have abusable supers.

So far I have been using this gem with Hawkeye Zero and Strider.

Since Gimlet tracks and gives you a wall bounce, this can be really useful for controlling space. Of course this is severely limited if your opponent has died

Ouroboros + mind gem should be obvious to figure out why, but with his air level 1, tag in combos and low jumps, this makes the super that much more abusable.

So far my team is Hawkeye Strider. IMO, soul gem is still the best for that team and best gem overall.

Just being able to ouroboros + teleporting around with kamikaze and up arrows covers most angles yet offer enough holes for teleport mixups to work.

So… I’m just thinking here… if you jump over and tag and it’s not a true crossup, is short hop over tag a true cross up because it auto corrects?

Has anyone found characters that work really well during Soul Storm? My money is on Dante being really damn good if you have the execution to play him + another character.

I personally think he’s better. Better normals, better traps, better burrow, and that stun gun is pretty clutch. I miss log trap and multiple mad hoppers, but just about everything else is the same or better imo. That being said, I have no idea why they gave him that f. lp…lol
