the way the system normally works is that you tap the button, you call assist, if you hold it after ~1/2 second it comes in as a tag.
That’s the confusion ><

Ok, my info has to be false then. There’s no way it could work with that mechanic there. Dude must be trolling us.
/facepalm
It could work if, as said before, you hold the button after tapping it - she’s already swinging in the screen when you start holding it.
That would be hellish to try to do a ground magic series rushdown while holding an assist button lol. Willing to try though.
If that is indeed the case, I guess all my Carl Clover play from BB might come in handy here.
so do you guys have your hsien-ko teams planned out?
Yep :3
Ko-ko swing assist/Doomrocks/Tron
I’m trying hard to be realistic. I want to pick strong characters. Viewtiful Joe, I am a big fan of his games. I knew the moment I saw his trailer that he would be my point character.
I’m having a really rough time picking his first assist though. Hsien-Ko might, and probably will work in that position. I like the idea of the Pendulum being an assist against people who like to jump a lot.
My third character, I am tossing between Sentinel, Morrigan, Tron Bonne, Storm. Whoever is the strongest, I will go with. I like Sentinel’s character design but I don’t like extremely complicated fly/refly combos. Morrigan seems fun but I don’t like her dash. Tron’s only good assist is drill and it doesn’t travel far. Storm is really powerful but I am just not a fan of Storm. WHAT TO DO. /offtopic
Back to Hsien-Ko. Her obvious weakness is mobility. She has a safe blocked combo ender with her item toss. The only reason they let Hsien-Ko move around after her spikes super is still going is because her mobility is so bad that she can’t follow it up with any tricks.
Zero / Hsien Ko for me, third I’m looking at Wesker right now but that spot is very open to change.
Basically, Zero on point, Hsien Ko gong should give him adequate cover to get in since he seems clunky in this. Wesker low assist to abuse unlbockables since Zero does air ambiguous cross ups so well. Will also be abl eto do TKed overhead dive slash thing with Zero and call wesker and get easy unblockables lol.
I’ll use Hsien Ko in the corner, drop the iron spike super, DHC into Zero with the V-ism super, do the unblockable while they’re forced to block spikes.
Hsien Ko is gonna use Zero projectile assist probably to get in easier and extend combos. Wesker assist will eb nasty with the pendulum because it’s already going to be hard enough to block without someone hitting you low from random sides while you deal with Hsien Ko on top of you. Wesker should benefit greatly from the gong or the pendulum, depending on matchup. I imagine making them block pendulum assist, teleport behind them, reteleport to the other side while still blocking is gonna be stupid to deal with if it doesn’t have absolute guard while blocking the pendulum.
DHC’s should be pretty good in this team as well since Zero and Hsien Ko both have OTG supers (rainbow pillar super into hsien ko spike super or swords). Also hsien ko swords DHC into Zero V-ism will be nice, Zero can come in and lightning dive into close range while they’re forced to block swords, and then is in their face with V-ism ready to rape.
Team name is gonna be Z-Virus. Z for Zero obviously with wesker reference and Hsien Ko is a zombie so I feel like it all fits lol
Taskmaster/Wesker-Samurai Edge/Hsien Ko-pendulum here.
Basically Lei Lei-s pendulum helps Taskmaster get in+fills in his Swing pressure, as well as helps set up mix-ups with Wesker. Wesker’s low shot for unblockables with both Lei Lei and Taskmaster. I think that one poster from the spanish media (If you’re reading this I forgot your name so sorry!) said Taskmaster has his overhead slash as an assist so that’ll be cool for mix-ups as well.
Oh, and as for order, I put Wesker instead of Lei Lei the middle slot because of the more versatile DHC options (seriously Maximum Wesker is like the best hyper in the game. Real talk.), although that might change.
If everything goes right it seems like it could be a mean pressure/mix-up based team, and has the advantage of having all characters I want to use!
It really depends on how strong her pendulum assist is, especially if she’s Dark Forced. If it’s an completely unstoppable swing of death, it’ll be great to allow slower or grapple characters a way to get in. Also, it allows them to stay in.
So I’m thinking like Haggar/Storm/Hsien-Ko or something.
I think combo into Iron Balls KFC Spikes DHC hailstorm would kill any character.
Oh true, I’m acting on the assumption that her pendulum is gonna be sick. Unfortunately if its not I’m going back to Chun. Sorry Hsien-Ko fans.
That makes the most sense. Tap, then hold instead of hold.
I’m probably going to go Hsien-Ko (Gong/Pendulum)/Tron (Drill)/Combo Extender Assist. Tron/Hsien will make for good chipping and blockstun, and the pendulum cancels could make some dirty crossups and fake unblocks if pushblocking really does remove absolute guard (example: Pendulum crossup cancel, call Tron on the other side and do stuff. Opponent tries to predict the pendulum and AG out of it, the cancel will make them whiff and open them up). Hsien-Ko’s lack of mobility isn’t such a bad thing if the opponent is stuck in blockstun. Dante AAA might actually be an interesting choice for extends, especially if it can OTG which I swear I’ve seen it do.
So far I’ve got Hsien Ko/Morrigan/Either Felicia, Deadpool or X-23. AAA for Morrigan, Pendulum for Hsien Ko and Low Assist for Felicia/X-23/Deadpool.
Both Morrigan and Hsien Ko look great on point, and Shadow Blade/Sempu Bu will be really helpfull for the team as a whole.
I still need to think things properly once the game arrives, but basically I’m thinking of using Team Darkstalkers once I get my hands on it.
I guess playing Juri in SSFIV is going to help me a lot here
Negative edging for Pendulum assist isn’t going to be that bad. It might be a bit awkward at first but it doesn’t even compare to faster paced games like GG’s Eddie or BB’s Carl where your entire offense is based on negative edging to a much more complex degree then holding one button down for an assist to do an extra action.
Yes, I’m testing Lei Lei in a trap fashion but also seeing how she helps in a more rush down oriented team as a battery.
Lei Lei/Doom/Sent - I can’t shake off the feeling that this might be the next StriDoom but that’s probably over stretching things a bit. On paper it looks like a solid trap team but I’m going to play around with Sent assists because while Sent Force assist is better for lockdowns you can get some unblockable setups if he has the overhead rocket punch assist.
The other team I’ll with Lei Lei is Lei Lei/Viper/Dante. Lei Lei as a battery and pendulum assist to help get Viper in for her rush down game plus Lei Lei seems good at shutting down zoning teams/characters with some decent run away tactics. Viper BK assist can also help set up unblockables. Dante for the Jam Session AAA and Dante in general looks to be a solid character like you really can’t go wrong with Dante on your team. lol
Is there even a team Dante can’t work with?
It’s impressive, really. He’s versatile enough to work with anyone.
Dante works on every team.
Either for his AAA or just him in general is good. I hear his crystal strike assist is really good as well for lockdowns.
Hsien-Ko’s theme out on Youtube

i’m looking at hsien ko/dante for sure. Torn on the last spot, maybe sent or morrigan
