MvC3: Two Girls one Corpse: The Hsien-Ko Thread!

Not that I particularly enjoy bursting people’s bubbles but that’s her (or S, whatever).

Her air dash can be cancelled anytime. It can probably lead to interesting crossups.

Oh, okay. This makes more sense, lol. Guess I’m not too observant.

Yeah, looks that way. I forgot about the canceling.

Whoa, double owned.

Damn. Nevermind people, move along.

thats not a divekick, just a divekick-like animation

edit: late

Jiggs: her weakness seems to be slow motion, for a basically in your face character she doesn’t get around very well.

Yeah, I can see where one could see that, but if that’s the worst of her troubles she should be fine.

Tenraiha OTG still seems like a untechable knockdown so it could set up meaty pendulums and since they can’t be push blocked it could give some nice mix up game and combined with something like Doom rocks give good chip damage. There was a vid of Hsien-Ko doing pendulum and Viper blocked 2 hits of it and it did decent chip. I imagine if the whole thing was blocked on top of doom rocks it could deal some really good chip damage. You could probably do something like meaty pendulum with Doom rocks, pendulum cancel, guard string to Tenraiha and repeat the process. I’m really liking the trap potential of Hsien-Ko.

Her regular movement speed (walk and air dash) are slow but she has some of the more unique movement options then some of the other characters. Pendulum is fast, can be done in the air and covers a lot of ground probably more so then a regular dash/air dash. On top of that it can be cancelled pretty much any time besides on hit/block which allows for things like TK pendulum cancel for feints or air pendulum cancel at farthest reach then pendulum again to travel the entire screen or air pendulum at the top of the screen, cancel, forward dash over your opponent’s head making for good run away tactics and combined with assist can get interesting. The forward dash is a bit like a teleport in that she disappears allowing you to get around certain things or do old school dash forward cross overs.

Regarding possible weaknesses:

Hsien-ko needs to jump a lot. Like in Darkstalkers, she doesn’t have dash cancel normals, and she’s slow on the ground, but she makes up for it with a good IAD and pendulum. Her dash is useful in its own way, though. Anti-air grabs could be annoying, even if she’s in gold mode.

She probably doesn’t have an invincible super, or a way to avoid chip. Dark Force may make up for it. Also no long-range punish other than throwing an item.

Her :d::l: might not be a low. If they kept the knife slash and not the kick, it probably doesn’t hit low. (I don’t know which she got. It looks different from the knife stab in one of the screenshots.)

As for what those traits mean, she looks strong against certain types of keepaway characters like Chris and Arthur, where she can gradually force them into the corner, between her gongs and good normals, and their lack of mobility. But a character like Dormammu would probably be more difficult to fight. Instead of safe projectiles with trajectories, he has large area-of-effect moves with unsafe recovery, not as unsafe against Hsien-ko. He has a teleport that he can use to switch sides if he gets cornered, and he has Chaotic Flame and Floating Bomb for potential chip supers.

Gongs are useless here, so mobility with pendulum cancels will be the key. If she has similar freedom to previous games, she could avoid supers and hope to use her air mobility to get past his zoning. If she gets in, he’ll probably die, but I can see him being a pest moreso than other characters.

As for full-screen hypers, I said earlier in the thread that I think it’s part of her design to drain enemy meter because some characters won’t have many other options besides chip supers against her moveset. As a last resort, if her Dark Force is perfectly armored and recovers fast enough, it might be possible to activate in response to a full-screen hyper and then pendulum at the enemy to cancel their attack and go into a combo. But even then you’d eat a chunk of damage getting there.

Finally, as far as damage output goes, I don’t believe we’ve seen all of her capabilities. First of all, I’ll eat my hat if you can’t combo after Chireitou. She just recovers way too fast for that not to be intentional. Possible ideas:

-Dash up, Chireitou again.
-Pendulum cancel and air combo.
-Call an assist for a juggle, aircombo if possible (thoughts: skrull AA tenderizer, dark hole, shadow blade, hyper grav?, any horizontal projectile with a large enough hitbox)

Also there’s likely plenty of time to DHC into things that are normally hard to connect (Proton Cannon, Finishing Shower), or there’s probably enough time to just get a safe switch-in without DHCing.

Other than that, I’d be interested to see if you can combo into pendulum somehow, or do a string canceled into gong and bridge the gap with an assist. If there is a way to predict stun projectiles, that’d be great also.

Also, pendulum cancel jumping attack, or IAD jumping attack at close range is probably better than a dive kick would be since it actually hits overhead. Should be more or less same trajectory.

Completely unrelated to Hsien-Ko but this is something that I noticed just recently… don’t TvC and MvC3 have the darkstalkers knockdown/tech roll system? Or at least a very similar version of it? Add 3 DS characters (Talbain possibily of DLC makes it 4) and the plot thickens…

On a related note, I still think her air dash really needs to be faster.

On another semi-related note, something I’m currently working on for my TE.

Wink!

Whoever wants it can have it. Minus the gif soup label at the bottom.

I don’t know much about the meaning behind either name, so I can’t really say for sure. However, I do know that at least as far as the first game’s characters are concerned, the international names are the originals and they were subsequently changed for the Japanese version. Capcom was aiming for western appeal with the game, so they had Capcom USA come up with the character names. But then the Japanese developers felt that some of those names wouldn’t appeal to Japanese audiences, so they came up with new ones for some of the characters. Whether this is true for Hunter and Savior as well, I don’t know.

Pendulum assist or gong assist
which will you guys use the most?

totally depends on who you’re fighting.

We also don’t know what strength of gong she gets for an assist.

Like I said, if Pen can give me some awsome loops for Tron, I’m using that every match.

It’s not exactly the same, but yes, I agree that those two games are closer to VSav than MvC2 in that respect.

Does anybody know if the gong assist will reflect pro.s?
Also out of all the announcements Hsien’s announcement seriously made me squeal like a 5 year old getting a chocolate fudge sundae haha. I’ll admit although I’ve been playing MvC since the day 1 came out in my arcade I’ve never really been to big in the series. I could never really get into the whole, spam as much Shizz as you can and be as cheap as possible to win haha. Yet the announcement of Hsien caught my Heart, there’s three fighting game series that I love like no others. Those are Cyberbots/Tech Romancer series, Street Fighter Series, and Darkstalkers, and out of all the darkstalker I always loved Hsien the most. Everything about her was amazing, her appearance, her personality, her play style. She was the perfect character for me, but she’s never gotten any spotlight in a fighter past Pocket Fighter. With the addition of MvC3 she finally gets her moment of glory, and it looks like she transitioned perfectly!
She seem to still has her “Chain Game” with all it’s glorious pressure and mix up quality it did in DS. Her gongs look like they are actually useful as well, and her specials look perfect. It does seem like her Spike Ball Rain ends too quick, but can’t tell till I see more of it. If so she might be lining up as an amazing chip character.
Ok to wrap this up before it becomes a novel
Hsien basically sealed the deal on me actually trying to up my skill in this series.
I’ll finally get to play the body and mind once more

if only i knew how to make gif avatars…
