Please don’t say such scary things.
I seem to remember Ono saying if he got to make DS4 he want’s to go the route of HD sprites (a la Blazbue). Makes sense considering the rosters ridiculous movesets…
But I digress, whatever gets us DS4, LET IT BE DONE!
I’m hoping they’ll improve her model before release, but even if they don’t there’s so much shit flying around the screen in this game I won’t even notice
Basically, any Darkstalker would fit in with MVC3’s game engine. I think Jedah would be the ideal pick though.
You must be one sad panda considering how long it’s been since VS, lol, but yes there needs to be a 4th Darkstalkers game.
I feel like I am being Ono’ed
IIRC, when asked about what he’d like to do for a DS4 graphically, he simply replied that he’d like to do “something that he hadn’t done before”. I don’t remember him mentioning anything regarding 2D in particular (although that’s what I’d personally prefer, of course).
Didn’t they say that the DS characters were hard to implement in MvC3 because of the way their models constantly shift? if they’re having a problem tossing a few Darkstalkers into a game, I don’t think they’ll bother doing the whole roster that way…
Chaos Tower helps, but I also have Guilty Gear: Accent Core+ on there and that game is like crack to me…
Bishamon would be doope
It’s been a while since I read that so who knows, I HOPE they go the 2D route, because for all the flack some people give the game Blazblue really is gorgeous visually…
But with all the projects Capcom is working on now (MvC3, SSFIV:AE, Tekken x Street Fighter)…
I get the saddening feeling DS4 is low on their list, no matter how much Ono (and practically anyone who’s EVER played VS) wants to see it made T^T
Darkstalkers 4 HYPE. I want it to happen. :3
So what are your guys thoughts on potential characters that will work well with Hsien-Ko or possible team combination’s. I’m really liking the idea of Sentinel/Hsien-Ko/Dr.Doom but I guess most of this is based off the lasting impression Doom Rocks and Sent Force assist leave. Also, assuming Hsien-Ko has pendulum or gong as an assist type. I really hate that the reveal trailers and gameplay vids don’t show their assist types.
well the reveal trailers showcase how the character plays on point so assists take a back seat, her good matches will largely depend on how her normals turn out imo, whether she needs an AAA etc.
But I imagine something like Doom Rocks could do wonders for her close range game (not that it can’t for like… anyone). Given her various tools to get in on the opponent (gong, pendulum) she could probably go well with a character like X-23 who has a good close range game but awkward movement style, just get in with Hsien, and score a combo into either DHC or air exchange to get X out there…
Doom Rocks and AAAs are always a good choice.
Maybe some low assist for unblockable stuff.
Team Darkstalkers sounds like it could be a formidable team Morigan (AAA)/Felcia(Low)/Lei(?)
I’m calling it right now. Darkstalkers team is gonna be DELICIOUS.
First off, hell yeah Hsien-ko is in the game! Huge fan of her, just incase my gamer-tags weren’t an indication of that. Anyway I have to say I love what they’ve done with Hsien-ko, although I was a bit taken aback by her voice at first, but it’s already grown on me. Apart from her airdash being slighlty slower then her VS counterpart, I’d say she’s remained true to what she was. Definitely want to run with a team of Hsien, and Tron, but as of right now it’s hard to say how well they’ll work with each other. Third member would have to be someone that could fit in with any team, maybe Storm, or Trish. Anyway mad hyped for this game, and it can’t get here soon enough.
yah, I don’t think there’s a single character that couldn’t benefit from Doom Rocks or AAA, it’s like a universally good idea…

Gongwave hits chris while hes on the ground. I don’t know the properties of chris’ lay-down move, so im curious, does this mean that gongwave hits otg? If it does, holy hell.
I’ll say “no” on this one. That stance by Chris is probably just that: a stance, and while he is on the ground, it probably doesn’t count as being “OTG”.
Also, if the gong projectile hit OTG, then I think we would have seen it in the videos, since all the videos try to show the players really basic character tactics that are also very effective. I could be wrong, though. Time will tell.
Darkstalkers 4 would need to be 3D, Street Fighter IV proved that, while 2D graphics are the favorite, 3D is simply more capable. Take a detailed look at the special effects, the facial expressions, the lighting on the character models (Like when your gonna get hit by Akuma’s Hadouken, the purple light, you know, that stuff.), the smooth frame rate that doesn’t take months to make look that smooth (A bouncing up and down stance in HD spriting at 60 FPS is like, 30 sprites.).
All this simply lets you know that 3D graphics truly are unrivaled, it’s simpler, it produces more results, and it’s beautiful. Darkstalkers 4 doesn’t particularly need to be in SFIV’s graphical style (I’d prefer if the artist was different, for one.), since it requires more cartoonish models and more ridiculousness. Well, back on topic, Hsien looks nice, but her character model looks SO unfinished.
No you misunderstand the problem. The issue brought up was how much the darkstalkers took along side the already heavy 3 on 3 system. Having the game run these complicated models and transformations ontop of keeping up with 6 characters, especially since they have to consider the chance of 6 of these being Dark Stalkers, as well as having to keep online in mind, well that is just far too much. Then considering the incredible roster size that you can eventually expect to have, it would be a waste of time and resources to model these characters.
The problem isn’t that it is impossible, the problem is that it is too tasking considering the nature of the game they are being put in. They also understand that they can’t be DLC, as the game is aimed at America is DS is almost non-existent in America.
Also don’t fret about reusing engines. If you look back at the history of Capcom fighting games, you’d be surprised how far and distant an engine can be pushed. MvC2 was built off of the SFII engine for god’s sake. The vast majority of Capcom fighters were built of a preexisting engine. MvC, as has already been established, is well set within the realms of DS play as well.
As for HD sprites, these days sprites cost a ton of money. Despite its small roster size, it took more money to make Blazblue’s sprites than it did all of SFIV’s models. Also keep in the mind the limited number of buttons used in Blazblue, compared to the large number of moves used in DS. The size of the roster in a game with HD sprites isn’t likely to be very high, and you may even end up sacrificing key moves as well. I doubt any of us want to see any of the DS roster cut short.
Now, yes Darkstalkers has a good following in Japan, but I doubt it has what modern day Arksys has today. The chance of Capcom actually making money off an HD sprite version of DS4 seems pretty unlikely, and proposing the idea of reusing an old engine and 3 models seems the easiest route to go by far in terms of getting the project green lighted.
You want DS4? A retooling of this engine and its models is likely your best bet, and I’m sure has already been planned that way. Dark Stalkers for Fall of 2012.
Yeah sure they can. Go watch that awful Nick show Fan Boy and Chum Chum. They do stuff like that all the time.
