MvC3: Strong teammates to pair with Akuma

Uwaaaaaaaaah? Akuma does hella bomb damage WITHOUT meter. Did you mean something else?

I’ve gone with Wolverine/Akuma/Sentinel.

The rationale behind this is that we’re currently still figuring the game out and there isn’t much good information out there, so I might as well go with characters one of the top players uses (Wong uses Wolverine and Akuma a lot of the time) because there will be lots of videos on the net that I can use for strategy. I went with Sent as my third because by all accounts Sent is god tier and it will pay off to learn him early so I have a better idea of how to beat him. I plan on maybe switching to Morrigan from Sent later on. I like her meter assist and her zoning game is nice. Combos too.

Akuma and Wolverine have nice synergy, mainly because of Akuma’s tatsu assist. Wolverine’s cross-up assist is okay too, when Akuma’s on point.

I’m currently running X-23(Ankle Slice), Dante(Jam Session), and Akuma(High assist)

While Akuma certainly isn’t dependent on a full super meter, his damage output goes through the roof with 2 or 3 super bars. Any of his throws link to an air beam super. He’s is also my crunch-time character. If I have to lose 2 characters, I want him to be my surviving one for one big reason: his level 3 X-Factor makes him obnoxiously powerful.

X-23’s low assist creates unblockables with the overhead chop(despite it’s slow speed) and she can generate super decently.

Dante’s Jam Session(possibly amplified by a Devil Trigger) discourages people from rushing in and let’s Akuma dictate the pace of the match.

I was testing Akuma/Deadpool or Wesker/Phoenix and gived me great results, a lot of bars gathered Akuma anti-air attacks and Phoenix “Dark Phoenix” mode are killers, Wesker or Deadpool can be used as an assist to perform a lot of interesing combos with Akuma.

Also, the Akuma Assist with Tatsu it’s godlike.

I’m using Akuma in the second slot in order to make the most of his strengths in DHCing into and out from. My first character is a battery, so I usually have some meter collected so that if it will change a fight, I can SGS with him.

He’s also extra effective in the event that an X Factor level 2 or 3 is a timely activation (light tatsu loop of death), more-so than level 1.

Finalized my team!

Wesker- Samurai Edge
Storm- Whirlwind
Akuma- Tatsumaki Zenkukyaku

Wesker is just there to confuse with mixups and do meterless as much meterless damage as possible: he’s also there to do snap backs if need be. Storm’s assist zones very well. Akuma’s assist breaks opponents projectiles and thus their zoning game. Bring Akuma in when you have around 3-4 meters stocked. Use Akuma to do tons of damage and burn the meter. Akuma is so very very hurtful with meter. Hopefully Akuma is the one to use x-factor on, but if the opponent has good run away, then it’s Storm time!

I like to use akuma, insane B&B combos there, you can DHC into him and punish with MGouhadou, I think Trish is my option to pair with him, that assist traps are amazing, and Akuma will be ready to punish you if you fall in one of them, because he is very quick, My third char is Doom at the moment, spamming those missiles gives me goods results, DHC’s aren’t that good but it’s a good X factor user, the tree of them are certainly.

He’s also just better in the second position so someone can’t snap him out early in the match and OHKO him. His assist is too essential to MY team at least for him to get killed or even get snapped out at the start of the match.

I need some help too.

I want to play Dante/Sent/Akuma/Wesker in any combo.

I can’t seem to find a good team though. There assists are good. but not against someone who has beams, sadly.

Since Akuma has no health, I put Sent. But I don’t know who to put on point…and I’m not sure if Akuma is a good anchor. Or if Sent should anchor?

Dante and Wesker are both good on point.

Sentinal is good in any slot. Same with Akuma. Both are meter dumping characters, where they don’t need much more than 2 meters at a time to do serious damage. I’d say Akuma benefits more from having a larger stock of meter since there are more scenarios where burning meter can help him in some way at any one moment. It’s harder for him to build his own meter because of this. Sent is better just to have 1 or 2 in reserve for either combos or using a hard drive to punish or get out of a tough situation.

However, it seems like your characters go towards an offensive mix-up kind of gameplan, so putting Sentinal in the middle doesn’t make as much sense. Might as well anchor with him for saving the team.

Wesker has a better reputation as a battery character for supplying Akuma and Sentinal with meter. Dante should do fine if you aim to set up teleport mix-ups with assists instead of using his gun super though.

Akuma with Doom’s hidden misiles is S Tier

I use Tatsu for Akuma and Jamm session for Dante

Try Doom, I swear you won’t regret it

Here’s a little trick trick for Akuma/Dante players
if you do the beam super (not barrage) with akuma right in your opponents face and quickly DHC to devil trigger (while opponent is blocking), it leaves you on a great position, you can square jump C with Dante and it’s almost always a crossup even if the opponent used pushback for the beam.

I usually teleport and when Im right next to my opponent I use this to get akuma out safely and still have the better position.

I didn’t mean to imply he couldn’t do any damage without meter, but that with meter his damage dealing abilities sky rocket. Especially with the air combo > air fireball super > S > air fireball OTG super

I have to disagree. I think he is too squishy to be a #3 and also he tends to need an assist to really get in on someone.

Hey guys, help me out a bit here.

My current team is Ryu, Zero, Hulk… and im thinking about switching out Ryu for Akuma… what attracted me towards Ryu was the fact i played him in MvC2, SSF4, SF2, etc. etc. etc. as well as he had a really good assist and versitle supers. I used him as my meter man while Zero and Hulk racked it up.

Seems like Akuma is a better meter man overall with raging demon as well as better zoning and i don’t really need that good of a GTFO assist as i dont have any keepaways.

So what do you want to hear? That you’re doing the right thing?

I haven’t studied Ryu much, but he’s felt hella sluggish and basic whenever I’ve controlled him. From my observation so far at least, I would certainly agree that Akuma is a better choice for a meter burner.

More versatile and with more opportunities to make good use of meter, but also more fragile. He’s likely to cause meter conflicts if you have something else to be saving your meters for though, unless you’re disciplined. That’s IMO, there are just lots of spaces in his game where the option to use a meter to put some hurt on the opponent is there.

I’m looking at running
Modok | Hulk | Akuma

Modok I’m not set on assist yet as I like all of his but probably balloon
Hulk AA
Akuma Tatsu

Hulk will be slightly weakened by not having an OTG but you can’t have everything and I think if I get someone in the corner with this team they’re going to have a real hard time getting back out.

I’m getting a little tired of Akuma (tatsu), super skrull, sent. I can’t stop burning piles of meter with Skrull! Too often I see a perfect air-reset in the corner and want to land a Raging Demon, but I don’t have the meter cause of that damn alien!

I’m playing with Akuma/x-23/sent for a bit, but looking at Shumas stuff taht’s been released… I may end up going with Shuma instead of X-23. I think Shuma may pair better with Akuma and Sent than X-23. Both have low assists and seem like fun to play. I would miss the DHC dmg reset trick (X-23 to Sent) if I get rid of X-23, and Shuma didn’t have something similar to play with.

It could also be that i’m just a huge Lovecraft fanboy and will play anything even remotely related to his “mythos”.

Shuma does have an OTG assist if that’s what you were using with X-23. He looks pretty good so far.

x23/doom/akuma
ive only been playing akuma for awhile seems quite a few people play him with x23 i cant really seem to combo forward hard, demon flip, palm outside of corners dont know if its possible but x23s neck slice assist + foward hard allows it to hit anywhere

akuma demon flip assist also gives x23 overheads and after a knockdown or throw otg ankle slice+ demon assist allows silent kill and x prime to combo

Tatsu assist allows weapon x prime to combo as well.

I do one here in the first match:

Though I was dropping combos left right and center and wasn’t doing the big combos that I prepared for some unknown reason. It was our first tourney though and it was the final.

I go with Akuma/Sent/Wolverine. Only just learned today that it’s the same team Tokido uses. Murderface, motherf*ckers.

I’ve really only been playing MvC3 for about a month now, and have no experience with MvC2. I’ve always been a street fighter guy, so changing over has been pretty rough. I stuck with Akuma and Wolvie because they seem to be pretty straight-forward characters, and Sent for the Sent Force charge. That assist paired with Akuma’s teleport and tatsu seem to be a pretty go way to lock down and totally frustrate my opponent. It’s also really easy to call sent’s assist, then teleport/jump/demon flip around to try and confuse them.

As for wolverine, i don’t really use him for the assists, i’ve just found that he’s one of my best solo characters. I do like wolverine’s speed combined with Akuma’s tatsu assist, though, especially with berserker slash.
