For me its almost no way you could stop Akuma’s Tatsu with Magneto’s Move set other then Shockwave… Disruptor and Hyper Grav and Force Field are all projectiles,which will be nullified by that cheap Tatsu… and all Mag’s normal L,M,H and air versions are useless against Tatsu
Is there anyway to deal with it other then using Shockwave everytime?
Use magnetic blast to stop the tatsu. Since it’s hitting overhead and not directed towards the move[Tatsu] it stops the Akuma player dead in his tracks.
Also if you wanna get slick, then try to jump forward and do Magnetic Blast :l:, c.:h: :s: into whatever combo you can think of
This is gonna be a really vague question, but how do you guys deal with moving targets? like, the way i play mags now, I disruptor till my sent assist is out and mix them up between drones. But how do you deal with like, she hulks and akumas that constantly jump around? I thought lateral airdash H would be a good antiair cuz of its hitbox, but it seems to get beaten by a lot of high priority air stuff like she hulk H and tatsus. Any suggestions on approaching/attacking a moving target/without a pindown assist available?
trijump a lot while the drones are out to distract the shit out of your opponents and while you’re doing so, hit try to hit confirm before/after the drones hit with trijump L
I have a question about air dashing. I use the type B config and when I do air dashes with mag I use LB to air dash. Is it better to use two attack buttons (I’m guessing light/medium, because I will be using H to attack with) or does it even matter? Sometimes if I do my inputs to fast or wrong I will get a random super but when I try to do with using the L/M buttons it just feels awkward.
Once you get this down you can do some silly looking cross ups that people can’t counter. This is usually the case whenever I do it and I end pressing :s: next to the other guy getting an overhead + free combo
Well yea, that trijump under drones is my normal offense. But i mean im having trouble approaching without the drones assist or when they have dodged the drones. I just feel like my current playstyle of disruptor until drones are back up, pressure while drones are out rinse repeat is kind of weak. Like, I need a way to approach without drones or when drones are on cd so my opponent doesn’t rush my shit down when they know drones are down.
Also, as a side note, why do they call the rom combo the ROM combo?
Yeah your strategy just seems too predictable in my opinion. My suggestion would be take advantage of the fact that you have several options when you successfully call out drones (meaning sentinel didn’t get hit before drones come in);
If drones hit, then either wait for each drone to hit and confirm that into a combo or;
If some, not all drones hit, then trijump normally over the opposing point character for a free mix up since they’ll be in block stun.
also you can use a standing :l: as anti-air reset. meaning you can go for an air grab if they are pressing a button
Dude’s handle was “Romneto”, here’s his youtube channel:
Of course my strategy is predictable, which is why i need to change it. See im good on my mixups IF my opponent is already blocking. I can trijump with S, l, H, i can trijump over, fake trijump, air throw reset. All of that is fine and dandy, but it assumes the opponent is sitting there, which drones do fine, but I need some advice about what to do WHEN DRONES ARE NOT ON THE SCREEN. So either ways to counter attack while on the defensive, or just approach without drones without the opponent blowing me up with high priority air normals or tatsus
Can someone post up a plinking tutorial for Mags MVC3 combos mainly hyper grav and rom??? I think that would help me a lot. I can only get the hyper grab to connect 2x then I just drop it. and when I look at videos the motion that i’m seeing is 214 L,236,963 LMHH rinse repeat…
I’m thinking about learning magneto but i only have a xbox 360 controller. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is magneto to use on the xbox controller. Also does anyone have any tips for me.
I’ve never seen anyone use Magneto’s forcefield special. Is it practical at all? I started messing around with it today and it doesn’t seem like any of the different versions get a combo after it. Is that why people don’t use it, or am I just doint something wrong?
Hyper Grav / ROM plinking: See the hands in this video, they’re shown multiple times on multiple speeds:

Using a 360 controller: I’ve personally never tried it, but there are players out there who play at a really high level with pads. Just practice and you can make it work.
Should I learn ROM/Hyper Grav?: You should if you have the time and ability. This is up to debate, obviously, since everyone has a different play style and not everyone uses these loops. Hyper Grav is easier to learn for most, I’d say. Make sure you learn some of Magneto’s other combos for sure.
Does anyone use the counter?: Not really. I’ve seen it used a handful of times, but I’m not sure anyone really utilizes it as a main part of their game.
Thanks for the plinking video, finally was able to on a semi consistant basis get the loop down. The only thing i have to work on now is getting the hyper grav to come out, looks like my qcb, l inputs are not coming out right. but thanks for the videos much appreciated!!
any pointers on how to get the correct height on the ROM loop? i can get 2 reps but the char either ends up too low or high. my most common miss is when i super jump back up it whiffs.
