Im gonna try magneto/vergil/wesker out then .
I really wanna have magneto on point cause he is one of my favorite characters.
Do you guys not find vergils rapid slash assist useful for magneto?
Im not very strong with the 3 characters but im still learning basic stuff with them.
Atleast run Wesker/Magneto/Vergil and derp it out with Vergil Anchor if you really don’t want Magneto anchor, although the 3 are high/top tier characters Magneto/Vergil/Wesker is definitely the worst possible order for the team with the weakest neutral setup. Vergil/Wesker/Magneto is the optimal and the strongest order for the team tbh. Rapid Slash is a decent assist but there a ton of better assists for both Magneto, whileas Disruptor is one of Vergil and Wesker’s best assists, Samurai Edge is completely useless for Magneto too outside of unblockable setups.
Im having an issue with starting the round against characters like Hulk, Wolvie, and even Vergil etc. I run Mag/Doom/Akuma, but im just not quite sure what the best options are for starting the round and not getting blown up. Any tips?
an obvious move would be to OS into force field but people are starting to catch on so i’d recommend trying this start of the round:
Against Wolverine; Keep fishing for the scoop because if the wolverine is smart then he’ll be calling an assist so he doesn’t mash out cheese. you can figure out what to do from there
Against Hulk; Ask Ika Zuchi or Kanta-Kun
Against point Vergil; fish for the scoop. if he teleports then go for calling tatsu assist while air dashing back and mag blast.
i know there’s better options but those are just some that i can think of at the moment.
i cant say much vs hulk. but point wolverine just has to be anti rushdowned on at the start. go for the scoop and if it gets teched, back dash jump back, airdash back with mag blast and doom missles to start the neutral game. you can go really hard on wolvie from the start and then just find an opportunity to get your neutral game started(keeping wolverine out with disruptor and missles. going in when missles are coming down.) this is how i handled noel browns wolvie at T13(not in tournament) to at least not get blown up once the announcer yells START. against vergil, the ground grab and akuma assist is really good as vergil doesnt have an instant overhead to stop it. try to make sure vergil doesnt have a safe time to call out assists. sometimes the answer to a really rushdown oriented character is to just do it right the fuck back to them.
You don’t want to jump because they can all combo off of an air throw really easily. For characters like Hulk if you can’t run away and you’re forced into a chest to chest it’s best to just take the ground throw because he gets nothing off of it.
Anyody got tips in the vergil matchup?
I couldnt do anything when he called and assist and teleported .
(online)
thanks for the tips fellas. Vergil is difficult because his normals stuff so many of ours, and disuptors get eaten alive by teleports. I try to pressure him with airdashed mag blasts or super jump addf mag blasts (sparingly). What assists do you have?
I had rapid slash and samurai edge
missles, tatsu
oh yeah you need to switch that order up then get back to us on the matchups you struggle with. Honestly i don’t see how you landed many hits with your old team order, seems like people would just push block you out all day.
I will try vergil/wesker/magneto then. Does that sound like a better order ?
Some things I sometimes play about with vs. scary characters at the start:
-
Get in their face, jump over them and land just before the round starts, dash back xx Disrupter + assist of choice (if you just walk back straight away then you’re in the corner by the time you’ve dashed back)
-
Jump (perhaps over the top of them) + ADB xx Mag Blast
-
Walk back, normal jump just before the round starts, air-dash upwards just as the round starts and cancel into fly and call something like Drones/Missiles during your first flight dash before flying to their other side, the delay in your assist calling should mean their assist call should have finished by the time yours comes out
-
Get in their face, attempt a back throw and OS xx Disrupter M and Dark Hole assist (or any other assist which would let your Disrupter combo) and go from there (though that’s riskier if they like to mash the throw or do a throw tech OS cr.L etc.)
Different ones for different scary characters depending on the risk/reward of challenging them, but in the end its about reading what they like to do at the round start.
Yeah Mags has a lot of options at the start of the round. Snap back always mind fucks them too.
I run that setup (as well as Wesker/Magneto/Vergil depending on the matchup). Magneto fares a lot better on incoming mixups than Wesker and especially Vergil, so having him second lets you have a much higher chance of maneuvering out of whatever welcome mixup your opponent has for you, and lets you safe DHC in either Vergil or Wesker. If you DHC in Wesker and the opponent gets clipped by shockwave, you can burn X-Factor. Ditto with Vergil, expect he gets a legit 50/50 mixup. Regardless, if you get the kill, your opponent has 1-2 characters left to deal with either XF2 Wesker or DT Vergil with disruptor behind them, and you can OCV an entire team very quickly with that.
Similarly, I can’t see starting Magneto on that team other than maybe for certain specific match ups. I can’t imagine playing a point mags not backed by drones or missiles.
Except Wesker has to eat incoming mixups on anchor too? And neither of his DHCs are actually safe unless you are DHCing into Devil Trigger or Swords. That setup also has you playing Magneto solo with a useless assist that only helps him add 50k damage to his combos. Vergil/Wesker/Magneto is the appropriate order and the best order for that team for many reasons.
everyone has to eat incoming mixups on incoming except for sentinel(unless you have the read) and morrigan with 3 bars.
Yes, but certain characters have stronger options than others. Wesker has jS and blocking every single mixup, other characters have a double jump or airdash incase the opponent messes up a meaty, and there are characters like Magneto who can pushblock the meaty hit, adub fly and get the hell out of there. Everyone has to block except Morrigan/Sent/Phoenix with bar but not all options are created equal and noone really has perfect meaty setups at this stage of the game anyway.
Wesker also has his teleport, but having an airdash/double jump is still a much stronger option.
To be fair I agree that Vergil/Wesker/Mags is the best order for that team, but I was explaining why others run it with Mags second. I run it as Mags second with the intention of bringing Wesker in safely, essentially running Wesker as second. Also Shockwave into Rhino Charge DHC is completely safe unless the opponent somehow managed to teleport behind Magneto, and if that’s the case you could go into Maximum Wesker instead to punish.
Against Hulk: Whatever you do, don’t jump, and only attempt to throw ONCE, at the start of the round, dont mash on H. DO NOT call assists.
Don’t jump because he gets a ToD from an airgrab, but nothing from a ground grab.
Only try to throw once because: if you try two times, either he grabs you (superior range) or you get st.H’d into death.
Do not call assists because fuck hulk and fuck his damage and fuck start-of-round happy birthdays.
As for specific tech, there is none, just gimmicks. Tech > L.Forcefield (beats st.H and you can XF the pillar to catch hulk and maybe an assist into a kill combo) ; Tech > Snapback (beats stH and snaps in Hulk’s primary assist or Anchor); Tech > cr.LL (not sure about this one, but should beat armor)
The best thing to do is just to try to jump over him, or walk under him if he’s a jumper. Just try to get space and don’t jump OR hit anything stupid at the start of the round. It’s a scary situation.
If you’re desperate, and have space between you and Hulk, start of round shockwave IS an option, as it builds space between both of you, but he might do the Meteor super, then you have to x-factor, then maybe he x-factors, and now your match just started in the most retarded way possible.

Wolverine, Don’t challenge him. You only challenge a wolverine if you’re playing an inferior player or if you have a very strong assist backing you. jump dive kick is a throw/good normal OS. again, build space, dont call assist at the beginning of the round, try to figure out what he’s going to do. There are usually small tells if someone is going to jump or walk, at the beginning of the round.
