MvC3: How do I shot web? The Spiderman FAQ Thread

Ok so I wasnt tripping. Thanks, I dont use sentinel in this game as he is garbage IMO, thanks capcom  anyways I’ll try and come up with some other stuff to use

So after a lot of games yesterday with Marlinpie and Josh Wong, I realized my biggest problems with Spidey are the following:

 1. Failure to convert any sort of damage off of j.H from an air dash. What do I go for to pick up damage when I land it air-to-air and air-to-ground?

 2. Projectile assists. When to use them and how to cover them?

 3. Approaching is still a huge issue for me. I literally don’t know what to do against Dante/Viper/Magneto. Air Play and Seismo ruin a frontal assault. If I come from above, Dantes st.L or M push me back out it seems. Are they punishable? Once my offense gets started, I have no real problems with the follow through.

 4. Defense. This is more general, but once in the corner, Marlin basically ends me. How should I attempt to get out.

These are all really newbie-esque questions but I feel I really need a refresher. I don’t play often, just a lot of training mode so I haven’t really developed these skills yet. What everyone sees as already understood, I feel might have past me by. The level of my competition is really high so I want to confirm that maybe my basics aren’t 100% before dismissing this as being completely outplayed as opposed to just … being regularly outplayed lol

Thanks fellow Spideys

This is why I wish I had higher competition in my area right now. Oh well it is what it is. Air to Air and air to ground are both dependent on you and your team unless you are 100% confident you can land spidey’s solo combos. As for covering your assist you should be using them to get in. When its the other way around then yes you assist is going to get killed. Once you are in you are the threat and they have to deal with you. That also falls in line with approach, use your assist to help you get in. Do not get reckless like I do in my vids and start chasing them because you are tired of waiting. Everything goes out the window then. If you know your opponent is countering your dashes with normals then tag them in the face with web zip and then attack. If they are using an assist thats truly shutting down your approach them bring them out instead. If not and they start countering your web zip cancel the zip into :m: web ball. Lastly defense. No one wants to be in the corner but sometimes you have to sit there and take it. With that being said pushblock at a safe interval and either:

superjump straight up
normal jump straight up and web zip at them or away.
Crawler Assault
TK :l: web swing
web zip :h:

Spidey has excellent tools for what he can do just have to fuck with him some.

Spiderman (and Amaterasu) are two of the safest characters in the game in terms of movement.

Being able to block during webzip/web airdash basically means that you can safely (with the exception of an airthrow) approach while basically fishing for a counterhit by changing how far you travel with (slightly unsafe) aerial attacks or the other movement option. The other thing you can do is just keep blocking their anti air attempts and hope your assist tags them.

M Web balls are very underrated and are pretty dang good when mixed in your movement options, I agree with xero.

I really wish I had access to the players you do, lmao

Now here is the tricky part - starting combos off of air-to-air jH. I feel that this is going to be a huge part of Spidey’s game, especially vs jumpers. I think canceling it into a webswing might work, but you still need the timing after the swing to get in aerials (air MMS is most likely) and if you are close enough to the ground, you can continue the combo with grounded M H Spidersting/bite etc.
Another possibility is canceling jH into a M webball. Dunno the comboability of it afterwards, I haven’t tried it at all.
So pretty much, you don’t have a move like Wolverine’s Dive Kick, Sent’s frying pan, or Dante’s everything to start easy air to air combos. But it is hopefully possible.

For Dante and other sword-wielding/high-priority characters, I generally start with the traditional zoning with web ball, throw, and projectile assists, then once I feel that I start noticing some sort of pattern, I play just outside of their reach, attempting to find some sort of opening with Web Zip, Ball, or something. I’m not sure how to explain it right now, but I prefer to stay at bay until I am confident enough to go on in.

Against teleport-happy Dantes, I tend to randomly throw out H Web Throw just to either scare them or at least throw them off a bit. However, I sometimes nab the fucker. XD

See this is what I try to do…just Air Play just straight up beats everything Spidey has in terms of projectiles. You can literally can only use the assist, which is why I’m trying to find another way in. I appreciate the advice and if you guys have any more suggestions let me know.

And Xero, j.H air-to-air or air-to-ground, it’s only solo Spidey combos. That’s what I’m asking: What can I do with just Spidey by himself?

solo from air to ground is height dependent. If I am around the normal jump area and lets say the peak of the jump I know I cant get anything big without using web zip to pull them down so a random jump :h: could turn into

j:h: xx web zip, j:s: s:m: c:h: xx :l: web swing j:m: j:m: j:s: s:h: xx :h: spider sting ~ :h: c:h: :s: xx :h: web throw xx MS

if I’m a little lower to the ground you can go with

j:h: xx :l: web swing j:h: j:s: s:m: c:h: xx :l: web swing j:m: j:m: j:s: s:m: s:h: xx :h: spider sting ~ :h:

Essentially after anything that pulls them to the ground you want to combo into s:m: c:h: series to get the most out of your damage.

Phantasy trust me even playing online my player base is not that good. Ive fought and seen lots worse in MvC2 that I shouldnt fall for half the shit I have.

that part of my message was @ Tsukiyome. I’ve seen quite a few videos with Josh Wong or Marlin

i need to learn webzip type things within my combos, that was so sick

oh ok lol I would love to play them as well.

Thank you all so much for the M Web Ball advice. That move is a godsend as tagging someone with it is a free 800k~900k, something that I couldn’t do from near full screen with L Web Ball. I’m not particularly amazing at wave dashing so I’ve been doing M Web Ball, dash, cr.:h: and then doing the rest of Spidey’s BnB from there.

Definitely a huge tool to use from super jump height which allows me to actually compete in fireball wars. Before, people would just eat the L Web Ball cause it does no damage and they’d just chip me out. Now, a minimum 800k is a legitimate threat that makes people not want to play keep away against me and forces people playing lame to approach me every once in a while. Still trying to work on hit confirming j.:h: combos though. . . it’s tough to not over commit on the follow up. You have to be so quick with the Web Zip follow up and I’m afraid to just throw it out there if the j.:h: whiffs or is blocked cause it might lead to getting air grabbed (and the character’s I’m losing to, you’re dead from a grab from Viper/Mags/Dante + Assist)

look at it this way. j:h: is an option select but if you are going to tag someone with it be prepared to follow up with something right? web zip is the easiest as it auto homes on the opponent and requires no directional input start up so its faster but there’s enough delay in the combo to know that j:s: should be next. Know that j:s: crosses up always unless spaced or against sentinel and then go from there. Just knowing that you can reach 700+ combos off of random tags puts fear in people

Posting this here because we don’t have a General Discussion thread:
This new SRK is KILLING me. @___@ Too much white on threads.

you can still change the style. bottom left hand corner

Thanks, bruh. O:

I’m kinda upset that we don’t have the icons for button inputs anymore though. :frowning: Everything is gonna be harder to read.

yeah I was just noticing that. I’m sure they will implement those again, they probably just released this so people can get back to posting. I’m mad I came up with an X Factor theory I want to test out right after they took my stuff. I’ll have to wait and test it out on my friends console when I get to the states before I drop it though. If it works as I think it may Spiderman may have a use for actually using X-Factor other than doing BnB stuff.

It doesn’t involve X-factoring after Maximum Spider sot hat you can OTG into another Web Throw and then Maximum spider again or something, does it?

No that’s a day 1 combo. I’m talking about something useful that could possibly be an X-Factor loop.

Arrrrrgh, the new srk format has fucked up all my first posts. It’s gonna take forever for me to find all the video links I used in the combo thread. And I don’t know what the hell is wrong with the video thread. Half the videos refuse to show. Gah!

This was so stupid, to make all these changes without providing a fair warning.

Tell me about it. I had all the combos in the combo thread hyperlinked to a video of that combo to make easier to visualize. I can’t remember the video titles so I guess that feature is lost forever. Really annoying!
