MvC3 guide is totally awesome

Hey Buktooth, do you think there will be some sort of supplement for this guide once DLC characters get released?

I buckled and bought one from amazon.com took a week to arrive (just got it today) and it is amazing. Definitely worth importing mate.

Atm its like £15 delivered.

Just to update: I’ve had this for some two weeks now. Yes, the guide is supremely awesome.

For future reference, this is what guide makers will need to top this:

  • Dash/jump data (while I haven’t read the guide cover to cover, this doesn’t seem to be included).
  • List Hit Stun/Block stun value for all attacks (this info can be calculated for ground normals from listed data, but is a pain for jumping normals in MvC3; for less chaotic games it should be doable though)
  • Hit stop values

Needless to say, this guide won’t be topped any time soon.

The one piece of data that I find odd to be missing is throw range. Did this slip through the cracks or was this just not easy to find in the test builds the guys got?

I think it surpasses a lot of what comes from Japan. If you compare it to the SSF4 technical guide, there’s more written for each character in the MvC3 guide. The frame data is laid out differently but still useful (a reference at the back with everything in one place might have been useful too, but this will probably happen on the wikis anyway.)

More than anything though, a lot of the recent Japanese mooks feel like they’re done purely “by the numbers”. They know exactly how much effort they need to go to in order to sell books, and they don’t seem to go beyond. Comapred to the MvC3 mook which has gone far and above all expectations.

In my mind, this is the MadCatz of 2011. It’s taken something that has traditionally been done better by the Japanese, for the Japanese and brought it to American (and international) players.

Quick question (which I pm’d too.) How do you get your frame data? Replaying 60fps footage? Programmable stick? Debug modes? Very interested to know.

Is there any chance of this being released as an**E-Guide?**

I have a hard copy already but I would love a perfect PDF.

I was right! So the strategy guide is what Capcom has given those of us with the late pre-order shipments. Just got the e-mail today, looking forward to checking it out.

Looks like I am getting a 2nd copy of the guide!

Yeah, I got the same. Now maybe this game will sell since I’m including the strategy guide.
Take this thing off my hands, people!!
