MvC3 General Discussion: Third Strike

I need a link to Yipes commentary kthnxbye.

Yipes needs to commentate every tournament, every game, all the time. He is by far the most entertaining and it isn’t even close. He is creative with what he says and doesn’t constantly abuse the lingo we hear 24/7 now. Scooby Doo and the Reebok reference to She-Hulk had me cracking up.

It gets tiring after awhile listening to people go “Oh I don’t like that decision, he should have done this” or “that move is 5 frames start up, this is invulnerable for this, hit stun causes this move to…”. All that is nice, but when its deeper into a tournament i want to watch the matches and just have some basic, funny, and creative commentary. It makes it much more exciting too IMO than it would be when you would be getting a lecture on the match which a lot of commentators do now.

It’s simple, VG commentary should be no different than ANY commentary in the world. One Play by Play guy, one color guy. That’s how you get the best commentary for everything. 2 Color guys, commentary can get obnoxious and annoying. 2 PBP guys, and it gets increasingly stale and boring (not as much for Marvel, because there’s usually a ton going on so there won’t be any weird pauses or anything).

Lol you need to sig this Ive seen you say it so much… Keits is full of shit

New DLC available tomorrow 3/1- Costume pack, Shadow Mode | Facebook

This 100%. I honestly dont give a shit if you would of done something else or he should of done a different combo or even that move is +9000 on block blah blah. No one gives a shit about that kind of commentary and its fucking boring.

To pull a sports reference, that is why the commentary between Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg work pretty well. Even though Joe knows a bit more [hell I want to say a lot more] than Mike, but they constantly feed off each other. Joe cracking jokes as well as giving information on whats going on with the fight. Mike Goldberg is the cut and dry part but is still good nonetheless when you want no bullshit commentary.

Dynce was calling Ammy “Scooby Doo” at 8bit Wednesday. The guy playing had Phoenix and someone else with Ammy and was calling them Daphne and Freddy instead of their names lol.

Shoutouts to Dynce for calling Dormammu “Dormington” though, haha I like this for some reason.

Dormington is gonna stick around for a very long time… Adding ington makes things sound classy lol…

What did dsp do to make everyone talk shit for 2 hours straight on the stream

That’s not entirely true. Both versions do drop frames occasionally. The 360 version drops slightly more, although it does have slightly better shaders, but the difference between the two is too small to actually matter. Emphasis on slightly.

Interesting. So someone banned Louiscipher for no real reason. Also Keits did say that after losing the entire time.

just him being there, stream chat full of “LOL DSP SUCKS DICK!” or “DSP FTW!”

I can’t wait till we get Seth to commentate. He’s generally got a lot of info that no one knows yet but by law can not share. Remember during Evo when James was going "WHY ULTRA II? WHY ULTRA II TOKIDO??? For half the match, Seth just igorned it, then when Rufus did the mesiah kick, Seth was all “There it is.” James: “DOES THAT WORK??” Seth: “Yes it does.”

My ideal commentary for MvC3 would be Seth and Dogface. I can’t see Yipes commentary working with Seth at all, but Dog brings the humour, the hype, and a touch of knowledge.

On the subject of Yipes on the stream though, he seemed sooo conflicted. He’d claim the game was too easy, but then slide right into how much better Wong was at the game. He doesn’t seem to know what to think about the game yet, it was really interesting to see his conflicting feelings towards it.

Unless the frame rate drop is as bad as playing a lagtastic match online… I really wouldn’t blame that on my performance.

Dormingon? Damn I must have missed it. But I did get a little annoyed at one of the asian guys talking mad shit how everyone was using Sentinel. “HO HO! HYPER SENTINEL FORCE!!!” I don’t know who it was but he clearly does not know the game much since he was constantly getting corrected on how some of the mechanics work. That and bitching about people dropping combos. For some reason in this game, compared to Marvel 2… aerial combos are easier to drop. Maybe because we got a diverse cast when it comes to sizing. I know its a bitch in a half to land some standard combos on Wolvie/Ammy/Arthur/Joe because of sizing.

Hey, respect the Chris Hu. He’s a Street Fighter player. He’s actually very knowledgeable about Street Fighter, but people only care for his commentary because he’s hilarious and has pretty poor English.

And people were dropping tons of combos that they shouldn’t have been. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s harder to drop air combos in this game (which, it isn’t really… just need to know where your different moves place your opponent, when to launch, which direction to SJ followup with, etc), Chris Hu had a point: if you’re coming to a top-level tournament, you need to be nailing your combos every time, no excuses.

Chris Hu worked better with his friend he was commentating with on Saturday, though. He did some MvC3 casuals commentary and then SSFIV.

Yeah, it’s pretty funny how people were saying the damage was too high and the game and combos/this game were too easy and then we see matches still timeout often and combos dropping and people getting ripped to shreds by someone.

Hilarious when Spooky said “How you drop America’s easiest combo?” when the dude screwed up a rocket punch HSF otg

This game is fine.

The number of dropped combos was really hilarious, especially with how easy some of the combos that were dropped are… even moreso given the pre-tournament commentary on such issues.

Don’t speak for everyone, I enjoy listening to commentators who know their shit and actually give insight into whats going on. It helps me upgrade my game when the commentator explains why this and that happens and also gives me different perspective on certain situations.

I think a lot of top MvC2 vets are probably initially disapointed right now. You have to remember how much time and effor they put into the game to become the top dogs. Now a new game is out with seemingly much easier execution and has CURRENTLY leveled the playing field. Now they aren’t necassarily where they were at in MvC2… where probably rarely they would get beatby some random nobody and now it is a much more common occurance they aren’t use to. I think that even though a lot of them realized this was a totally new game that, a lot of them expected a little more of their MvC2 skills to translate to MvC3 which seems to not be the case. Sure some of the basic concepts are still there, but it really is totally different.

It doesn’t help either when they lose and random shitheads are like “ZOMG Yipes/Sanford just lost! How the hell did they lose!!!”. I feel bad for them in that respect because that is sort of unfair and quite frankly retarded. I remember when that one random kid on the stream beat Sanford with a level 3 XFC Sentinel… wiped out his whole team with him and then started freaking out like he just beat a God. Its like dude yea you beat a great FG player but you beat him in a new fucking game… you probably know just as much about it as he does if not more.

I didn’t think the damage would be too bad in the beginning. I’m more worried about stuff people will discover down the road. We’re already beginning to see it with those Phoenix Healing DHC combos. If you start a combo with a bar, and get your opponent in the corner? They’re dead. Build another bar during the combo, DHC into a bigass Phoenix combo to kill them.
