Maybe the idea of low tiers working together is true. So my team is Tron/Hsien-ko/Taskmaster, my vanilla team, but with Tron and Taskmaster reversed. Back in vanilla it was rather fun having two ‘invincible’ assists, but now I settle for Gold Armor.
Anywho, what I find fun with this team is after landing a Lunch Time special with Tron, I can instantly DHC into Gold Armor Hsien-ko and raw tag Tron back in, get a standing H to either L or M Beacon bomb to continue the combo or look for some reset.
Having Gold Hsien-ko makes fishing with Beacon Bomb much easier as well. On hit with Gold Senpu Bu, I can get a beacon bomb in to hold the opponent and continue the combo. So playing offensive or defensive with Tron or Taskmaster is a blast.
So what does Hsien Ko have going for her? Would it be possible to build a team around her to cover her flaws?
Basically, what should i think of if i want Hsien Ko on my team?
So last weekend I went to an anime con where they featured UMVC3. I experimented my Firebrand/Hsien-Ko/Taskmaster team, and didn’t have lots of victories as expected, but at least I had fun enough and even had a couple of surprise winnings. In the other hand, the other team I’m working that doesn’t include Hsien-Ko was pretty much a blast.
Also, among the players I faced, I met one whose team consisted of Morrigan/Hsien-Ko/Trish. She was actually really excellent and surprised a bunch of people with a long stream of victories.
Currently running one of the two teams here, which is essentially just switching point characters:
Wesker (OTG)/Lei-Lei (Senpu-Bu)/Hawkeye (Greyhound): It’s kinda similar to ll.nd’s team, but uses Wesker instead of Chris and the lockdown isn’t nearly as potent. It’ll traverse the field well, and both anchor/point can switch places easily if the time comes. My only gripe is that unlike the other team, Wesker OTG really only helps Lei-Lei get an extra relaunch for her combos. He does build meter well and gets loads of set-ups with Senpu-bu lockdown after OTG or Hawkeye quick resets.
Felicia (overhead assist)/Lei-Lei (Senpu-Bu)/Hawkeye (Greyhound): This is the team I prefer lately, and I swap between Sand Splash and the Cat Pounce assist as the match-up dictates. Felicia enjoys the lockdown given by Senpu-Bu and can keep the pressure on decent with her safe attacks. This allows Lei-Lei to get in even unarmored as an assist to pin down the foe. What I like about this team though, is that it gives Lei-Lei a lot more options to open up the opponent and combo them. Either adds a ground bounce to an airborne foe (which is hella-easy to set up with the JC normals) or pretty easy unblockable set ups since it lunges just about the same length as Lei-Lei’s cr.h. That alone helps in curing one of her biggest problems after you managed to chase down a foe.
I’m going to play around with the teams some more, but I do like the options team Felicia brings to the table.
Need a bit of help, who would be a good third member for Vergil and Hsien Ko? trying to put Vergil on anchor with rapid slash, still debating if Hsien-ko should have Senpu Bu or Henkyo ki as an assist as well as where to put her.
There certainly are tons of strong point characters you could use, but I may be a bit biased just because I play the character, but the first character I would say is Taskmaster on point. I played him on point back in vanilla with Hsien-ko second. What I enjoyed about these two especially was their DHC capabilities. With the typical Taskmater M+H Air Legion Super finish in the corner, you could choose to DHc to Tenrai-ha for a bit more damage. Both Hsien-ko Senpu-Bu and Vergil’s Rapid slash can extend his combos also.
Now you’d know that after an air grab, usually you can only get the OTG Super after for some decent damage and not much else without certain assists. If the air grab was midscreen, you can DHC from Arrows to Hsien-ko’s Sword super. This gives you enough time to tag either Taskmaster or Vergil out to continue the combo in some way, with Taskmaster probably looking for Sharp Sting, and Vergil maybe going for a Stinger for wall bounce, etc. And with tagging in Vergil, you haven’t used the ground bounce either, so…you could possibly get in a really long combo.
Henkyo Ki assist to me might end up being the worse, as I think it’s limited to only to possibly extending some combos. Senpu Bu of course is what most would use, and I’ve seen rare occasions of people choosing Anki Hou for some reason. If Henkyo Ki was the Heavy version, it may have been more useful to me.
With this is mind, if you were to heed my biased opinion, the order would be Taskmaster (Horizontal Arrows)/Hsien-ko (Senpu Bu)/Vergil (Rapid Slash).
Task/Hsien/Vergil sounds really solid, though you can’t really go wrong with anchor Vergil anyway. I’m pretty sure he’s a good option against MorriDoom-type teams too, which Hsien/Task struggle against. Task builds very nice meter for a lot of damage too, so you’ll be able to Gold Armor up easily since that should be your priority with running Hsien-Ko second unless you are guaranteed a kill off a DHC.
Definitely go with Pendulum. It gives Task (or whoever’s on point, really, though he benefits nicely from a hit) a nice way to convert if you catch the opponent pressing buttons. Henkyo Ki spawns behind your point character, which doesn’t really do anything for the point. The defensive/offensive benefits of Gold Pendulum far outweigh any combo-extending capabilities Gong may give you.
I’m still interested in if anyone’s been able to get a lot of use with Deadpool and Hsien. You might actually be able to get decent damage with her off of his unscaled Bola assist now that that’s been discovered?
I have started running Ko/Storm/Trish. With Whirlwind behind her as well as peekaboo Hsien-Ko can play a really good ranging and defense game until she has meter for DHC into ice storm from gold armor. Storm backed by Ko’s pendulum is madness to block from what I see. If Storm dies then it’s ko/trish whch basicaly means I build meter for trish -_- any suggestions?
so who are some good point characters then? I know Task is one, but i’ve never heard of nor do I like him, I find him pretty annoying, character and gameplay wise. Wesker would be an obvious one, but I’d rather only have one member of the trench coat mafia per team, so that’s out. Out of pure boredom, I’m trying to keep this team limited to the capcom cast mostly.
You can’t go wrong with Spencer! LL.ND gives a good rundown of his synergies with Lei-Lei on the last page, plus he builds good meter as well while not needing to use a whole lot for his hefty damage.
I also wonder how Viper and Hsien can synergize. Trish might work as well for your point character; may be able to set up shenanigans with Round Harvest?
gg LLND even though I didnt do very well, never played a rushdown hsien ko before I was thinking of a character that works well but wasnt sure who I just stuck ryu on the team and I liked doom missile’s but I cant really find a really solid team maybe spencer, hsien,ko doom or something hmmm
I spent a whole day using Hsien-ko (Senpu Bu) / Dr. Strange (Bolts of Balthakk) / Dr. Doom (Hidden Missiles), and I loved every minute of it. At first my goal was just to armor Hsien-ko and get out of there, but I actually started keeping her in, and managed to OCV some people with her. Once, I was a shred away from a perfect - so frustrated that Doom got hit at one point.
The gongs just create this amazing wave of ultra turtling defenses that nothing but teleports gets past, and Hidden Missiles covers the teleporters. Even if a teleporter comes past, it doesn’t matter because their assist never arrives to make their teleport menacing. Offensively, once I have a Henkyo Ki up and a few missiles are in the air, I just Senpu Bu toward my opponent. Against some characters I zone with Anki Hou, but not against air dashers because the bomb seems to love to come out whenever I’m trying to anti-air someone (seriously, I hate that thing). Basically, the team takes a butt-ton of patience, but it pays off. If your opponent has a really scary hyper that can beam down Doom, just play it slow and be sure to leave time to DHC into Seven Rings of Raggador or Rimoukon Dr. Strange in after your first combo so you don’t have to worry about beam punishes anymore.
A question: does Hawkeye’s “beats all projectiles” projectile (Spritzer, I think?) beat Hsien-ko’s gongs?
If Dormammu had a tracking Purification assist, I would love to mess people up all day with Hsien-ko/Dormammu/Morrigan, but alas…I’ll still try this team out, but Hsien-ko will just be an assist bitch for it. I don’t have the execution required to get permanent Rimoukon via Dark Harmonizer, and Dark Hole doesn’t help her out very much. What I wouldn’t give for Dormammu to have a good neutral assist or two…
Good to see you having success with that team, and the gong reflects spritzer, which sometimes lead into some funny moments (killing Hawkeye’s own assist makes you feel like a god).
I’ve been doing surprisingly well with My Ko/Storm/Trish team! People can’t get to me even though I am moving forward.
The gongs are followed and I throw whirlwinds out to back them into the corner. If they start to become aggressive ot teleport I have Peekaboo assist to cover my back. If I see something like an assist call I just armor up and dhc into storm. It’s freaking fantastic!
It’s a very viable team, as Ammy helps in the lockdown department when you finally pin down your opponent and gives Chris some very interesting set-ups. Chris as a point serves as a strong battery and utilizes the two assists to chain up his supers together. Having mine or gunfire assist gives Lei-Lei some zoning support, but not too sure after that. Personally, you should run it if you want to stay more offensive but I have a variant that uses Chris/Lei-Lei/Strider. It gives Chris a stronger neutral game imo by giving him some air control and can emphasize a bit more on Lei-Lei playing lame.
I do and it’s pretty legit. Due to the nature of Felicia’s assists, it gives Lei-Lei a lot of of unblockable opportunities and boosts the chances of her opening up an opponent. Felicia always likes having a lockdown assist and building meter really shouldn’t be that big of a problem to unlock the Golden pendulum with the cat. Felicia also gains an advantageous oki game after any landed Tenrai-ha by DHC’ing into Kitty Helper. I also think she can combo after a Chireitou with air Delta Kick, though the timing is tough.
Lei-Lei benefits a lot from the cat spike assist, giving her a ground bounce to extend combos with her disjointed limbs OR possibly set up for a reset. Sand Splash is a serviceable OTG assist that also gives reset opportunities. I’m not too sure what you can do with Buckler yet other than unblockables, but Felicia moves so fast it’s tough to time.
All in all, these two work well together. Just gotta be creative.
