MvC3: Claws and a Bra. X-23 Thread

Does air Talon L beat out lows btw? I suppose I should find out myself lol.

And this was pretty weird:

Was able to grab the dummy during blockstun using Chun’s assist. The vid is pretty crappy quality so it’s hard to see the block spark come up, but it’s definitely there.

Tiger knee talon L beats out lows pretty free. It basically works where like instant air d+H will beat lows when you’re right next to people because you crash down on their vulnerable hit box and then tiger knee talon L will just blow everything up cuz the hit box is ridiculous.

Sweet, thanks, gonna throw that into the mix as well. X-23 will be a lot of fun once I get to grips with her.

I was trying the same thing w/Doom beam and it wasn’t working…

I could only get it to work with Chun’s assist, tried it with Tron and a few others, it didn’t work. If it worked with Tron, it would be game over lol.

Ok, finally I’ve put together the video about the corner trick I found. It doesn’t break the game or anything, but I think it’s a lot of fun and it’s been blowing people up online whenever I land it. Let me know what you think!

That’s pretty sick haha, thanks for sharing. The more stuff you guys keep figuring out, the more options we have in our arsenal.

Yo props to 10stars for a sick showing at 8onthebreak last night, came so close to not being a pot monster.

That Tron assist!

That thing is amazing, I would have liked to see 10stars go for more command grabs under the cover of tron bonne though, but w/e it was nice to see some high level x-23. Plus his combination with dante was pretty awesome as well with the unblockables and such.

10 stars did put on a pretty good showing by basically doing a good job of staying in with basic techniques and making sure he always use the M talon attack in the air to d+H dive to close the gap. Once he starts putting some of her instant dive techniques and throws more he’ll get scary. X23 isn’t that scary overall unless you add in standard throws. Ground throw, air throw whatever. They’re 1 frame start up and she has a great wave dash, just do them. For people who think all you gotta do is just block to deal with X23, a throw that pushes people into the corner where you get auto mode feint mix ups will be very scary…

People are worried a lot about the command grab because it gives her free super as opposed to the normal throw which doesn’t quite outside of corner situations. Command grab requires assist being 26 frame start up at closest possible range. It’s not surprising people are kinda not putting command grab in much when they barely have setups for it yet any way. 26 frame start up means you need to go in the danger room to make set ups for. Can’t just throw that shit out.

Regular throws are 1 frame ground or air and someone with as sick pressure as X23 needs to be throwing all the damn time especially when her throws push people far into the corner. Once you throw them…wave dash up to the mother fucker and keep pressuring till they hit the corner for free mix ups. Magneto can 100 percent kill you off any throw so might as well get what you can out of it with 23.

Not sure if new, but she can plow (somewhat) through Tron’s gustaff fire on start-up and even end up between the assist and the assist caller.

yeah qcf+B owns Tron assist, if you charge it up you will get 3 hits on Tron and a frame trap on their point char

you can also charge qcf+A vs. Wesker. gunshots will go over your head, if he teleports in front you will get a huge punish, and if he teleports high you can usually go whizzing underneath him before he can hit you

in other news, I spent an entire set of 70 games running around holding S down the whole time so I could throw out s.H feint loops like crazy. that poke is godlike. if you are always feint canceling it has literally zero recovery, so it is totally safe on whiff. if you are canceling it on hit it is no problem to hit confirm into four more H attacks before you do a loop, or on block run a mixup with all your frame advantage. hardest part is just gettin used to controlling with one finger stuck down all the time in such an awkward position and letting go every now and then so you can do qcb+B crossups and the like

Oh no, I’m talking about her :l: Talon attack. It goes right through or trades with tron during the active frames.

Yeah L Talon Attack (air qcf+L) is probably not a bad idea. Especially if u tiger knee in front of her to cause a trade or go up higher. If you can cross her up in the back you’ll always get a clean hit.

Hey guys, this probably sounds lame but I’m having trouble with the :qcf::atk::atk: combo ender after the otg. The :dp::atk::atk: super comes out most of the time. This happens on any stick on any game. I went into training mode and even if the notation display is correct, the dp super will still come out most of the time. Any ideas?

Make sure you let go of the stick before doing the super. Holding onto the stick before doing the super will cause inputs to save. Since the OTG move ends in a forward direction it probably saves that input when u do rage trigger and ends up giving you weapon x prime.

Ok…so I was gonna post this in the team thread but people post here more so here goes. WARNING: This is one of my long rants again.

Basically after seeing how little X23 has developed and how I originally wanted to pick her when the game first came out I decided I’m picking her up. Fuck it. If I already figured out some stuff with her that other people aren’t doing I’m sure I could make something out of her and when more good players pick her up I’m sure her potential will really be tapped. It is kinda tricky picking good assists for her since it’s pretty much a necessity to have one assist that augments her offense and another assist that clears a path for her to get in.

It was funny enough that I realized that with the team I was using now two of the characters pretty much can serve that purpose already. Was using Wesker/Doom/Chun but I think Chun is random and she doesn’t really fit my play style outside of her execution. She rushes down but she doesn’t have enough tricks or tools from a range like the characters I’m used to playing. She’s also pretty much reliant on like one move for her success because it’s pretty much broke (lightning legs) but nothing else about her really is that good IMO. You just rush down and hope people run into a move with broke priority that sets up combos and if they lame you out you dont have much.

With that I figured X23 defintely fits my play style more being that she has a lot of similar options that Chun Li has as far as a wall jump, generally strong air options, strong wave dash and heavy frame advantage on a lot of her tools. Chun Li for me is like X23 but without a lot of the extra tricks in her arsenal and not really capable of much more damage (and had me just putting her in the back to make her a broke XF character).

Long story short (well…not really LOL) I decided to change my team to X23/Wesker/Doom. I will probably kinda miss having Doom second because I love how versatile he is on offense and defense and killing people with 1.3 million damage XF level 2 sphere flame combos is cool but…I think this team overall gives me more potential. Since X23 is reliant on assists any ways I figure since both of my characters have 2 of the best assists in the game I might as well just stack them on her and see what it could possibly result in. Doom’s beam assist is the most durable beam assist in the game and easily sets up launch combos on hit and will work well with her M mirage feint to create safe 50/50 crosses. This will of course also double as allowing her stronger methods to get in by riding under high attacks or projectiles with a wave dash under the cover of the beam or having his beam counteract a lower projectile or attack while sailing over with her M talon attack and coming down and getting in.

Once I get in barring the setup and vulnerability issues of her H mirage feint I could probably set this up with Wesker’s OTG assist to create easy mode unblockables. He has the fastest OTG assist in the game which allows him to create pretty much braindead unblockables with Chun and with the right approach could probably get something similar going with X23. I mean if 10 stars can tear through people with his basic almost assistless x23 that doesn’t use any feint cancels or anything I’m sure I could put some stuff together with all of that stuff plus a good OTG assist.

The other big reason why I chose this team is because it’s a “New Age of Mahvel 3” team. What I mean by that basically is when the game really gets going whoever you have as your first character will automatically have low health. X23 and Magneto they both have low health but if they’re fighting against a Wesker, Skrull or Doom they’re at like a 200 or 300k health deficit starting at round 1 fight correct? NOPE. Everybody basically has the same health as X23 when the round starts now. I learned this the hard way when I put Wesker up first against my friend’s DHC reset whore team of Magneto/Zero/Doom or Sent. I felt comfortable having a uber high tier character on point starting backed up with beam assist which is pretty much all Wesker needs to be a complete character with high health. Then of course he busts out the cheap ass DHC combo into Zero Genei Jin off of ANY throw or any landed c.L and I just go home. I dont get to survive, I dont have any health left, I’m just…fucking…dead. 1.1 million health Wesker…DEAD. All because Magneto touched me and gained a meter.

First thing I was thinking to myself was…“this is fucking bull ass shit, I got more health than Sent and I can’t even fucking take a combo…what’s the point of having high health blah blah blah”. Losing the highest health character I had on my team to one touch was the biggest reality call in this game I probably could have ever gotten in the first couple months of the game. I just realized the game is totally different now because of DHC reset. There’s no point in loading a character with big health at the start of the fight when other low health characters can do huge damage, DHC reset combo into another characters and then just fucking kill you. If the game is just going to turn into “whoever gets hit first loses their first character” I might as well just fucking die with a low health character because 1.1 mil health doesn’t make a difference when u die any way. Oh and if he drops the combo towards the end I still have about like 100k left. Cuz you know that helps.

Anytime someone says “this character has low health” I’m like…“are u fucking kidding me? everybody has low health”. Which is why I figured it would be great to have X23 on my team. She has low health so I can just put her first and turn her into a death touch character. If my first character is going to die or be left with about 100k on the first touch of the game I might as well just pick a low health character that can kill just as quickly and then get the advantage of DHCing into a character with high health after. I’m gonna die either way and I’ve always played a style of “kill or be killed” in every fighting game I play so it would work perfect for me. I always want either me or my opponent to die but with the way I had my team set up before I was the only one that could die. Now they can die too (even though I can still die LOL).

Plus on top of all of that if he burns 2 meters to kill my X23 that technically puts him at a no meter deficit afterwards while I have meter with Wesker backed up with Doom beam assist. The only assist Wesker ever needs is a Doom beam assist and since he’ll have zero meter after I dont have to worry about DHC Reset of Doom combos. Which means he’ll probably resort to a strategy of of just trying to reset me after a combo because I’m not sure if Magneto can kill X23 start of round on one combo without burning meter with the DHC glitch. She’ll probably lose like 500 of her 800k but that’s about it. If he wants to outright kill me with the DHC glitch because he finds my X23 that scary (which is something I’ll have to work on) then that’s fine cuz Wesker is coming in buff as fuck not having to deal with bullshit glitch and just fights against a meterless Zero while my Wesker probably has almost 2 meters. Then I can go back to actually playing a matchup for once which is playing a 1.1 mil health mobile tank vs. 800k high priority but dies in a combo and one throw mix up Zero.

Overall I think X23 really has the options to be a strong character in the future it’s just she’s a character that you really have to try and put things together. You can’t just swing the claws like Wolverine with tatsu assist and expect shit to happen. It takes a lot of understanding how to make her advantageous through the feints and using her dive moves in crafty ways to stay advantageous and use the assists to augment her offense. With the DHC reset glitch I can pretty much turn her into a death touch character against most characters. Especially other characters with low health like Magneto it will be super easy to touch him one time and just kill him. I would only be doing like 500k to him before then he just combo videos my Wesker with Mag, DHC’s into Zero and kills me and Magneto recharges his health back to 80 percent while my Wesker is dead. Hell nah. No more of that shit.

I’ll definitely have to put all of X23’s tools together quickly so I can learn to defend myself against what Magneto is doing and land that one hit DHC reset to blow up his low health. Once he’s taken care of Wesker is coming in with big health against Zero who can’t start up a glitch.

LOL that’s the exact team I am using, in mostly the same way as you describe. It is a hella good team. I use beam to counterpick assists and am working on using rocks more for matchups where you don’t need the priority of a beam

DevilJin, you do the best rants haha. Back on the Viper forums, your posts were the best and they’re still dope.

Speaking of Chun, I want to use Chun, I really do. But I don’t like how she plays either. Her assist is great for keeping people in place and she DHCs well with X-23(but only if X-23’s in point position) but outside of that, it’s awkward to get in with her for some strange reason. I like her meterless damage output and the fact that she builds lots of meter, but I swear characters like Wesker can do more meterless damage for less effort too lol. Plus Wesker can’t be lamed out as easily as Chun can seemingly be lamed out.

If I could use Doom, I’d just slap him in and anyone else really(or better yet, put Doom in a Phoenix team, use his combos, build tons of meter off them and take the piss) but at the moment, I’m swapping out between Hsien Ko, Chun and Trish for partners. Maaaaayyybeee perhaps learn Morrigan, I’m pretty sure Astral Vision can sub for the DHC glitch but I think she’d be better off in another team.

Hmmm…wow that’s pretty cool. I wonder how that worked out. I guess cuz Wesker and Doom are both bad ass bosses. LOL.
Did you always use Wesker and Doom or did u pick them up later?

LOL thx man. I guess we think alike to both be Viper players and now X23 players. I wanted to play her from the beginning because she looked like a real kinda mix up/feint Ibuki take on Wolverine but I was too afraid of not knowing anything about the game system to use her. Especially with no top players really running the gun with her yet. My original team was going to be X23/Dante/Viper but when I heard how much of a meter whore Viper was and how many special moves Dante had I just kinda backed offf and figured I should pick up Doom to replace 23 so that I could focus more time on Dante and Viper. I just wanted Doom to shoot lasers for Dante and Viper but then I realized he was supposed to be played offensively and was just as complicated to use as they were so I was just like…fuck it I’ll wait till I see a team I like.

Now that I understand the game better I feel its time to pick up the closest character to Ibuki in the game and I feel that X23 is definitely it. I like characters like 23 and Wesker that aren’t reliant on air dash games cuz coming from SF and barely ever playing Mahvel its more familiar to just run along the ground and use moves in the air to bring you to the ground. Doom would be like the only character that like really brings any Mahvel style air dash stuff but I got him figured out a lot more now.

I wanted to at least learn Hsien Ko but her style is a very strange anti lame, lame style (for lack of better term) that will take a while to figure out. I’m using Morrigan on my stupid ass Team Cheese of Morrigan/Sent/Phoenix. I like Morrigan a lot because she’s very versatile on both offense and defense and Sent drones help her offense a lot. She doesn’t do a lot of damage though so I end up usually just tag comboing on the first combo into Sent then landing a knockdown and running away with fly and building meter a couple times. Then try to basically scare people with Sent’s air normals and armor moves and spit and if I land a hit I just combo then while pressing on Morrigan assist to gain a bunch of meter then probably tag into Phoenix at that point who will have 5 bars. It’s a stupid ass team LOL.

BTW as some general questions to help me get her figured out

 1. What kind of combos can you do off of her standing or crouching normals if they anti air? Like if you anti air Magneto tri jumping on you with a s.L, s.H or c.M? What in general are her best normal based anti airs?

 2. If you hit someone air to air with a normal what combos can you go into? Are they similar to the anti air ones and which normal do you usually do to do it?

 3. Can she actually land anything off of a mid screen throw or air throw via assist? I kinda gathered her regular throws are most so just for pushing people to the corner then comboing if they get to the corner like Dr.Doom’s forward throw.

 4. Is there any reason to use her air qcf+H talon attack?

 5. What constitutes whether or not you can land her weapon x prime without an assist? I’ve seen it done in the dhc video but not sure what exactly allows her to do it.
