MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Seriously, we all know Wesker is at the top. No need to beat a dead horse when it comes to him now. Lets talk more about other characters who are a little more unknown than most of the ones we know are really legit.

Trish anyone?

She’s got an 8 way, a decent keep away, flight, strong combos, traps for good assist use and combos, a strong level 3
Top, maybe? I’ve seen a few videos of her doing some crazy things on point.

High, at least.
Yes?

Sounds about right. I would actually say between her assist and the DHC trick though that she makes more sense as #2 or anchor character.

I’d agree with that, those traps are a crucial dimension.
But still, top none the less.

All in favor?

EDIT: And I didn’t know she could do the DHC trick. I’d definitely say top, then

Trish is good now and I think she’s only going to get better.

Yup apparently Round Harvest has some funky properties. I’ve seen one team config where she makes sense on point and that was a team that someone at Final Round was fairly successful with in Trish/Morrigan/Phoenix aka team Lame meter gain. Otherwise I’m a big fan of Andre Lamberts team in terms of how he uses Trish traps w/teleports.

If you ask me, the top-top tier should be comprised of characters you always see at least one of on almost everybody’s team. To me that seems to be ATM:

Magneto
Sentinel
Wesker
Wolverine

After that it would be strong chars that work well with minimal help from assists, as well as also having decent assists of their own. I think it would look like this:

Akuma
Amaterasu
Dante
Phoenix
She Hulk
Storm
Zero

Next would be top-middle consisting of chars with good damage/pressure potential with solid assist usage and may also have a potent assist:

Dormammu
Doom
Felicia
Hulk
Morrigan
Taskmaster
Trish (if not here then the next tier)
Tron Bonne

As for the rest, well it’s still pretty hard to say to far considering that the game is what, like 6 weeks old? But if I HAD to put people at the bottom is would be:

Arthur
Hsien Ko (yes, even with armor assist)
Viewtiful Joe

Just cause everyone uses them does not in any way make them the best, it just most likely means they’re more explored. Trust me, I watched the Starcraft 2 metagame develop over a period of 6 months, and I can almost guarantee that’s the case. While those 3 of those 4 I’d agree with, the rest of your list seems quite shaky, especially according to what a lot of us have discussed so far.

I really, really don’t think wolverine is top.
Up there, but not top.
I would define top as having either extremely uncommon, game changing tools (phoenix [Though admittedly, I’m still hesitant to call her top]), or having a plethora of options along with strong fundamentals (Mags, wesker, Ammy, etc.).

Felicia is ridiculous. She’s just getting popular now though.

X-23 is a better Wolverine. She’s also getting a little more popular now, so maybe people are starting to realize this. The main reason Wolverine is/was so popular is because Justin won WB with him and he’s really easy to use.

Can you perhaps link us to some crazy felicia action? I’d be interested. She seems like a goofier X-23

Trish, top? Really? Trish on the same level as Magneto, Dante, Amaterasu, Wesker? I do nott agree. Almost everytime I see her used in tournaments its as a keepaway strategy, and she ultimately gets fucked by someone with superior rushdown. Her traps aren’t enough to justify the low health and damage on normals. High, certainly, but I think top is a little crazy.

Honestly, after watching a bunch of tournament replays, I’m just all kinds of confused now.

I just don’t even know…

I feel like she is mid-high. Low health and not enough damage output to warrant her high or top (she definitely is not top). She does have some nice tools for keep away and has some interesting mixups/resets but he needs to be touched once/twice (wish I could touch her) while she needs to touch others (me preferably) 3 or 4 times.

X-23 on crack/catnip.

The rest of Justin/James’ games at WNF aren’t divided so I didn’t link them.

Not sure if I can agree with hulk being that low.

Edit: Also morrigan

I’ve read the entire thread, all at this point, 47 pages, I check it daily because I find it funny the lot of you are trying to make tiers. Does Arthur’s shitty normals put him in the bottom despite some of the best projectiles in the game? Is Chun-li crap merely because she doesn’t make effective use of meter? Does Deadpool’s great keepaway in conjunction with good pressure abilities get negated because he has substandard health?

Not only are the characters for the most part, entirely unique, but considering this is a team-based game, the team on the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

And on that note how do you factor assistt abilities into that? Make an entirely seperate listing for characters based on assists alone?

The point is there are too many factors to say “this character sucks, this character rocks.”

Ugh, Sanford is fucking terrible at this game.

Is MODOK still ass?

Yes.

/stupidquestiontime Why aren’t Shuma and or Jill on the tier list? Shuma is pretty decent, and Jill has hella potential.
