WARNING: MASSIVE POST ALERT
=Cyclops is a rather unique character in the aspect that the exact assist structure that Cable likes is pretty much the same as what Cyclops likes. His standing and ducking hp along with optic blasts [and optic sweep to abort HSF] are complemented well with projectile and beam assists [including but not limited to BH-b, Doom-b, Iceman-a, Cable-b, Storm-a/y, Sentinel-y, and Doom-a], and when up close, he likes having an AA like Psylocke-a, Jin-b, Cable-b, Capcom-b, Doom-b, Cammy-a. This isn’t a complete list, so keep that in mind. There are other assists that work well for him up close too, like Doom-b, Akuma-y, and Metal Zangief [lariat].
Use the information in my outline above to choose a good assist structure. Keep in mind that Cyclops and Cable like each other. Let’s look at some random teams.
===========================================================================================
=Here are some teams I used to use personally when I used to play in tournaments. This includes my casual play teams…
Cyclops, Cable, Capcom [that order]
-Used as intimidation if someone likes to snap in my Cyclops, I choose it and start Cyclops. They’ll be begging to snap him out for Capcom. Cyclops’ job is to live for 15-20 game seconds at which point you can’t do shit to him for fear of an alpha counter punish [Blocking close attacks = Capcom XX Sword XX HVB, and possibly MOB, or Guard push XX Alpha counter Cable XX AHVB], Blocking distance attacks = Alpha counter XX AHVB]. Use this as one of the practice teams to learn Cyclops.
Blackheart, Cable, Cyclops
-Get good with Cyclops so that people won’t try to snap him in. I had a series of matches where someone snapped in my Cyclops two games in a row with Magneto, and lost Magneto to my Cyclops both times. That’s gotta hurt.
-Start Cyclops against the computer and fool around until you know what to do.
-Against Magnetos, you want to normal jump back, and bait them forwards. When they try to dash in, you call Cable-b, double jump over their heads, and block. If they attack you in any way, they put themselves directly in the path of the scimitar, and get taken out. You stand there and mash hard kick till they come down, and then start mashing hp. When they get too close for you to safely do this, you jump backwards, and see how they react. If they dash at you, you call Cable-b when they’re close, and then jump forwards blocking. If they block Cable-b, you either back wavedash and start mashing hp, or you go in with a ducking lk,mk, and if blocked, jump back with hk. You can also tick throw them all the way across the screen, and start mashing hp all day. Really irritating. This is how Magnetos can die, as they can sometimes keep eating Cable-b out of frustration, and even when blocked, you can move to advantageous situations.
Cyclops-b, Cable-b, Ken-a
-This one’s for Strider, Doom, and Ruby Heart Teams.
Storm-a, Sent-y, Cyclops-b
-Casual. Tournament menace team though.
Cyclops, Sentinel, Capcom
-Everything Cyclops needs to be powerful.
-Susceptible to Cable.
Cable, Sentinel, Cyclops
-Who you start depends on the order, and your confidence with Cable to survive till you get 3 bars. It’s always comforting to have Sentinel-Cyclops in case you fail. Cable’s my best guy, so I’m not afraid to start him. For everyone else, always start Sentinel.
Cyclops, Cable, Capcom/Cammy
-The Capcom one is Viscant’s, the Cammy one is Justin Wongs from before he became good.
Magneto, Blackheart, Cyclops-b
-Team Samnang. I love this team. It doesn’t give Cyclops everything I think he needs, but I like it nonetheless.
BH, Storm-a/y, Cyclops-b
-More of a BH-Storm team. Cyc gets no benefit except at a distance.
Hulk-b, Storm-y, Cyc-b
-Cyc replaces Jin-b in a surprisingly cheap team. More of a Hulk-Storm team with only distance help for Cyclops.
=Teams that Viscant used, invented, or mentioned [Casual or otherwise]
Cyclops, Gambit, Morrigan
-JWong’s order, Viscants is Gambit, Cyclops, Morrigan
Doom-b, Sentinel-y, Cyclops-b
-More of a Doom-Sentinel thing, but Cyclops is playable due to Doom.
Venom, Cyclops, Ken
-This team sucks. Damage is hard to come by. Good chemistry though. If you keep Venom in the middle, DHC Chemistry is maintained.
-Cyclops, Venom, Ken is a good order for DHCs, so is Venom, Ken, Cyclops, So is Venom, Cyclops, Ken. Ken first isn’t as good for DHC purposes.
-Excellent chemistry, shitty damage output.
Cyclops-b, Sam-a[I think], Doom-b
-Be careful with Cyclops. Sam and Doom need him. You’ll lose if he dies.
-This is a guard damage team. You can do horrifying chip with Sam’s Ice coupled with Doom rocks.
-Drop Doom, Star XX Star super, Star XX Star super for block damage is also really rude.
Doom-b, Storm-a, Cyclops-b
-Photons Hail
=Duc Do
Spiral-a, Cable-a/b, Cyclops-b
-Block anything and Spiral reloads. More of a Spiral-Cable team.
=Other interesting teams
Cyclops, Sentinel, Capcom/Cammy/Psylocke
-This team gives Cyclops everything he needs to compete. A close assist, and a distance assist. It’s only really susceptible to Cable.
Magneto-a, Doom-b, Cyclops-b
-More of a Mags-Doom team really.
Cyclops-b, Guile-a, Doom-b
-Any order with Doom-b or Cyclops last.
-Guile backbreaker into Doom assist making it almost impossible to roll away.
-Block damage for when you can’t land a hit
-Only weakness is killing power on a hit by hit basis.
Doom-b, BH-b, Cyc-b
-Chip and traps. More of a Doom-BH team, but Cyclops is playable here.

===========================================================================================
Cammy is a fast character, much like Wolverine, but slower. Put Cammy at the end in most teams. She has a hard time dealing with ground-flood. She likes Storm assist since it clears out much of the projectile spam that she hates. Otherwise, she frequently winds up assist only.
Storm-Sent-Cammy [one of Justin Wong’s National Championship winning teams]
Sentinel-Cable-Cammy
-I got 21 wins in a row with this thing. Cammy wrecks triangle-jumps and sliding low moves.
-Cammy’s usable due to Storm-a assist.
Blackheart-b, Sentinel-y, Cammy-a
Megaman-a, Sentinel-y, Cammy-a
Spiral-a, Sentinel-y, Cammy-a
-Cammy replaces Capcom, or Cyclops as the anti-air for Team Duc 3.0 [Spiral-Sent-AA], and if you move Sentinel to the end, Cammy replaces Cable in Team Duc 2.0 [Spiral, Cable, Sentinel]
Not if you’re on a pad, you’re not. I used to be able to mash out almost every time on a pad, but it was very hard to get that capability. Also, grav-tempest is much harder to break if your back is to the wall. I listened to Justin’s mash-out on a vid of him playing to get a feel for via audio him doing it. Then I did a combo with Mags ending in Grav-Tempest, paused it, grabbed my controller, used my toe to un-pause it, and mashed to break it. It’s not as easy as you make it sound, and the player can do something like Call Doom-b just before the grav-tempest giving you 1 frame to break it [good luck, that’s not happening].
This could be a somewhat annoying team. Sure you pretty much only have Magneto, but unless your opponent has Doom or get’s lucky, he’s SOL.
Mags-a, Tron-y, Jin-b means that your opponent can’t call assists while yours are off screen unless they want them blasted by Jin’s assist. Now they’re assist-less while you mix them up solo and they risk getting snapped before their assist lands from the explosion.
I thought I’d add more things about Cammy Teams.
Rogue, Sentinel, Cammy-a
-This is another Cammy-a assist team.
Cammy-a, Sentinel-y, Capcom-b
-Who do you snap in? Sent will rape you, Capcom has an assist Magneto and Storm hate.
Cammy-a, Sentinel-y, Cyclops-b
See above.
Iceman-a, Sentinel-y, Cammy-a
-Start Iceman, Call Sentinel-y, Up icebeam, upward icebeam, wait. If you aren’t Cable vs this, it’s a serious hassle.
-Cammy is usable due to the Icebeam assist.
Here are some annoying tricks:
-Let’s say you’re blocking an AHVB, a proton cannon, or some other energy / non-physical, energy-based super. You can Alpha counter in Cammy at a distance to whiff, and cancel that counter into the KBA super to abort and punish it. I did this once to someone leaving the entire arcade in shock. Nobody knew that I knew about that.
-KBA any energy based supers someone fires. Their only counter is to DHC into a physical super to abort yours.
-Call Cammy-a against any energy based moves someone throws at you if they are close enough to get hit.
I chose to try out your Storm-a, Sent-y, Cyclops-b first since its the hardest team to Iearn (I’ve been dying to try out Sentinel for the longest time along with Storm). How do you feel about the matchup between that team and BH-Doom-CapCom? BH obviously has a strong air game when it comes to his sj. HP and sj.HK (with or without dashing in-air). Doom can cover the floor while you setup a zoning game with BH, and you can create a corner wall with CapCom assist and the sj.BH if you happen to find your self there
I think that Storm-Sentinel wins that one. There is more killing power in the Storm-Sent team, and the invincibility of the Cyclops assist will go through Doom-b. If Storm coughs on someone and has 2 bars, that’s a minimum 90% health depleted to a character via launch, Air combo XX DHC to Sentinel.
The Storm-Sent-Cyclops team is called Team Matrix [Popularized by Chris Matrix].
Yet another one of Justin Wong’s tournament winners.
**Xephyer_Sword is crying like a bitch on PSN. Match lags, he loses against Roll. “LAGSWITCH!” Rematch, no lag, loses against Roll, still crying about this so-called lagswitch.
Dude. It was simply lag. YOU STILL LOST TO ROLL. You deserve no pity from me. Go cry some more, you pansy.**
I don’t drag the script: here is the only thing, including a recap on your inner idiot:
My beloved once said:
“Roll alone beats NO ONE character. She lacks all tools. She has to rely on a assists and super to commit to any damage.”
And she still beat you in our rematch. What’s your excuse, son? No, never mind, you have way too many to count.
Okay, You cooking up beef correct:
-FT5.
-No Tron, CapCom, Doom-, Psy. In general; No top tier Assist. I want to see your skill without them.
- No Lag tactics or swtiches. You hear that?
If I win, I keep humble.
If you win, you can take the bragging rights since I know you like writing dem love letters on facebook saying you won something great.
If you accept, let me and anyone you’d like to spectate the match in to clarify the results and to make sure there is any noticeable lag.
braggin about low tier XD
I’m going to wait to see if New Era Outlaw lets you off the hook for the mistake you just made. I underlined and italicized the dangerous part. If he accepts, you’re fucked.
Without BH, Capcom, Doom-b[which is what you most likely meant] and the other assists that everyone views as top tier, I can whip up teams that literally can’t be stopped from an on paper perspective, I’m dead serious. I literally thought of about 10 teams in less than 10 minutes with the first 5 coming in less than a minute. The more I typed, the more teams that couldn’t be touched kept showing up. If you eliminate lag caused by my mind trying to focus on typing, that was 1 team per 10 seconds.
Gambit, Morrigan, and BBHood is one of the tamest ones I thought up [shoutouts to Viscant], and that one has fatal DHCs [which can be followed up with guardbreaks into], infinite combos [Morrigan, BB Hood], Throw into assists, and more. This isn’t even one of the cheap ones I thought up.
That said, Both of you, no more trash talk in this thread please, I HATE it. The only thing I’m interested in is if he accepts or not.
if you guys play fuckin record that shit
The whole no top tier assist stipulation is a real doozy - does it exclude Ken AAA?, Jin?, Collosus?
It seems as if It isn’t going to happen.
And for the most part, I acknowledge those setups you are talking about and they do vary depending on the character. I didn’t start internet bullshit on facebook, I never sent anyone to preach about it on srk, and I didn’t over exaggerate the situation, until he did. I’m still willing to play him, regardless of the open talk.
I was gunning to see what his MM teams are capable of since thats what the theme was in his belittlement towards me. I actually prefer Mid-Low tier because I fight those teams more than any thing online. I’ll allow Ken’s AAA, Jin’s Expansion, Collosus as well. It seems I may be up against his buddies as well?
A repeated mistake is that Mike Mixon is referred to in your records as Mike Nixon.
