MvC2 MSS Question

I’ve wanted to get good at fighting games for along time, always dabbling in them since I was a kid playing mk and sf2 up through highschool with mvc2 and kof98. I was always better than my friends but nothing compared to people I played against at arcades. So now that I have some free time I was wanting to focus on trying to get tournament-calibur at MvC2.

Being fairly new to trying to play the game at a competitive level, I’m wondering why the Magneto Storm Sentinel setup is so potent. After unlocking Sentinel, I was able to achieve my first 1cc completion of the game using this team, but truth be told I’m mostly mashing buttons only using a few qcf and hcf moves that I could figure out based on it being a 2d fighter. I am just wanting to know what it is that gives these characters the competitive edge over the others.

Eight way dash for Magneto and Storm = offensive options 98% of the cast doesn’t have.

Runaway meter building = defensive options 98% of the cast doesn’t have.

Being able to kill 98% of the cast in 1 1/2 combos = Sentinel.

Hmmm, it looks like I described their individual potential instead of their team mechanics.

If Magneto dies, chances are you have 4 or 5 bars with Storm/Sent. So even after whoring hail, you still have the meter to kill them with one launcher

The answer lies in the heart of battle.

you need a good Anti Air Assist character so take out Sentinel and add Psylocke, or take out Storm, keep Sent., but add Capcom.

well since it may be moved soon ill only say a few words. mss is a very good rushdown team. magnetos and storms speed are already a problem backed up with a super armored heavy hitting assist makes any hit more lethal. on the flip side no anti air means youre prone to be counter rushed if you try to play it defensive for too long. most of your meter will come from your offense
