I only started about 2 months ago, addicting!!! I hope it will stick around, I mean if people are still playing SF2.
Cabinets on turbo drop frames as well. The game would be pretty different in some ways if no frames were ever dropped.
the current DC emulation is just terrible from the last time I checked. You’ll need a decent computer instead of a 20$ DC. That right there will limit the players automatically.
Now, if the naomi board gets cracked, that means mvc2 will be able to run on mame HOPEFULLY @ the proper speed. Thing is, going the naomi route means we get the arcade version of the game instead of the 30% faster one we’ve been playing on since day 1.
I think part of what makes Marvel unique in its staying power is the 3-on-3 tag team system that just allows for SO MANY possibilities…in a one-on-one fighting game, there is a more limited number of possible outcomes and strategies; Marvel, by its very design, inherently has more replay value.
I think the easiest team to pick up is BlackHeart(AA)/Cable(AA)/Doom(AA). BH can combo his super off of many assist setups. It teaches you runaway, trapping, timing, airdash, using assists to combo, using assist to chip, punishing other assists, when to call which assist, and it’s an overall good team that you can be competative with quickly. BH is super easy to learn, call Doom assist sj 2x demons is a solid trap if you mix it up his d.lkx2 has high priority and you can combo it into Cable AA xx qcbHPxxSuper and BH builds meter for Cable. Cable has AHVB which is worth learning to abuse, he works well with Doom and BH assists, BH will build him meter, Guard Break is easy to learn and effective. Doom is hard to be good with for noobs but especially if BH or Cable is still around to assist he can be very useful.
If I knew someone who was trying to break into Marvel I’d start them here. Many people get frustrated learning hard combos but this team has simple yet effective combos and should turnover into a descent team in the shortest time (read easy learning curve).
Oh and PS the only way MVC2 will ever completely die out is if another Capcom Marvel game comes out and is both similar system and better then MVC2.
I stopped playing Marvel almost 4 to 5 years ago because it was too hard to find competition to play pick up games with, despite a huge student population with gaming clubs and such.
But just last week I walked into the Union and caught a bunch of kids goofing off on the dilapidated Marvel cabinet. For the sake of nostalgia, I put my two quarters in and broke out my rusty Cable/Sent/Commando. Of course, most of them weren’t familiar with the top tier teams and strategies, and the couple of kids who were needed to practice a lot more on their execution. But I still had fun as they kept rotating in to get owned.
The good days are gone, but kids are still getting into it, if only casually. Like someone else said, it’ll be around in the way Super Turbo is around today.
Also, why is MVC2 selling for nearly $100 on ebay? And that’s just for a used PS2 version. WTF? The PS2 version isn’t even arcade perfect.
supply/demand
Well, over here in Charleston SC, most people have moved on to SF4.
But, not me, fuck it…I like Marvel so I keep playing it. If you like something, and it feels good, keep doing it, right? (Well, not unless you’re about to bust a nut in some random girl or something…lol…its time to pull out)
Anyways, if you look at the end of this video:

The guy says, “Look at SF4, its so lonely over there…marvel is going NOWHERE!”
I’m so jealous, I wish I lived in California (I think that’s where they played???)…
Probably in California.
I walked past the Marvel cabinet at the union today, hoping I’d catch a few rounds. It had a laminated sign that said “Temporarily Out of Order” on it I guess they have the sign laminated because they have to use it all the time ::sigh::.
I guess Marvel is going nowhere in some places. Here, not so much.
At least you guys have an SF4 cabinet. The only working machines here seem to be the DDR and possibly the Initial D.
marvel has been around this long for one reason. There is NOTHING else like it. All though some games come close, VS\GG, they aren’t exactly BETTER IMO. Those games aren’t team based and have very limited angles compared to marvel.
Hell, vampire savior STILL gets regular play to this day in japan so you know that game is CRACK!
when it comes to the speed fighter genre, there aren’t to many games. The “slug” fighters, ST, sf4, etc… there are to many incarnations of these games over the years. Those are the ones to go first because they’re a dime a dozen. Not saying that ST and sf4 will go but the slow tempo fighters are by far published more than the fast ones.
Unless you’re in japan:smile:
Top level Marvel makes any other game look slow. All those japanese games are way faster than SFIV, and way slower than Marvel.
Marvel will never die… Marvel is the best Fighting game ever!
Meh shit needs to be on GGPO already.
Amen!
Yeah i love this game and i like it a lot because it is a big FUCK YOU for people who are like tiers are lame but hey look at how popular the game is. It is so broken but so fun at the same time. HAHA i been playing for almost 7 years now and i am not sick of it at all. I dont know about low tier ever making it to a high level tourney match but you never know.
Tron Bonne never dies!
ST has been around for over 15 years… I don’t think it is going anywhere. Marvel has already died down a ton with most players moving over to SFIV. I love Marvel, but it is on its last leg.
I don’t care what OTHER people play…TO ME, Marvel shall never die!
Yes, I’m self centered…haha
Have been playing the game ever since it was in the arcade back in 00. Playing it to practice for when it comes out on 360.
Lets close this thread, MvC 2 just got a 1UP Thanks to the Re-Release! Woo!
