MVC Infinite Lounge: DLC Characters and Costumes launch Dec 5th

On first sight I thought the gameplay looked fantastics, the graphics are alright (not anywhere as attractive as they were for MvC3 though).

But I have to say after a second and third view the game system looks rather underwhelming, the assists added much to the game’s attractive and while I’m not against removing them, they should have put something more interesting in exchange.

In-combo tag thing seems alright, but it’s not enough to make this more attractive. The gems are just a replacement of the X-Factor that will work fine as grooves, but the game’s still missing something more innovative…

This is truly a step backwards, some people will say “back to the basics” but I don’t see anything appealing on that…

Just speculation but between the stage looking like a mix of Megaman and Thor and the boss like a mix of Sigma and Ultron it kind of seems like the story may involve some fusion between the two worlds and a heroes vs villains theme. I’d rather see a storyline that actually focuses on Marvel facing off against Capcom with specific rivalries like SFxT, rather than the usual Marvel & Capcom teaming up to defeat the villains. Capcom faces a Marvel boss, Marvel faces a Capcom boss. Instead of just everyone vs Galactus.

As for the mixed stages, I hope it works better than Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

If you’re expecting 4-way mix ups and meter positive ToD combos, I’d advise you to stick with UMvC3. This game is going to be a lot more grounded, that’s part of what they meant by older games being “overwhelming”. You can’t just do shit and have your assist make it safe/mixup/confirm into a combo.

That said, tag cancels might lead to some nasty resets if done right. If we use MvC3 characters as an example, imagine having Wesker start a combo involving a wall bounce, tag in Nemesis who ends his part with the wall bounce into rocket move, and tag cancel the hit that’s supposed to wall bounce back into Wesker. They’re going to wake up guessing where Wesker will be while the rocket that Nemesis fires as part of the attack is flying across the screen. Also, back in SFxT, I noticed a VERY narrow (1 frame?) window where you could tag cancel moves like Hugo’s back breaker and Zangief’s running grab. If that can be done consistently in this game, you might have situations where a character like Doctor Strange can set up all his shit while the animation ends. Very interesting stuff for sure.

Yeah I always thought that the Versus games should emphasize the “Versus” aspect of the two companies battling each other.

Give small benefits that encourage people to pick teams from only one company (I.E. unique tag team abilities), have a mode where people can go online and pick a faction to fight for (Marvel or Capcom), that sort of thing.

Unfortunately they seem to be ripping off MK vs. DC with the “fusion of worlds” gimmick.

Obviously it’s far too early to make a real judgement so here’s some subjective opinions.

Art style reminded me of the flat, washed out look Injustice had rather than the dynamic look I’m used to for Marvel games but that’s personal opinion.
Gameplay reminded me a lot of TvC, Which I personally hated. To me, no assists means the movement better be on point/not sluggish or the game is going to feel slow/clunky.
6 buttons - Sounds good. I know a few people who won’t play the game because 6 button games are too hard.
Infinity Stones - MSH was my introduction to Marvel fighting games so this actually gets me excited if they do it right. The idea that it’s similar to Grooves sounds good. As long as we don’t get 5 Gems with the game and the Reality isn’t 8.95 DLC.

Overall - That initial trailer really makes me think of TvC and that worries me. I’m sure many of you here liked TvC but I didn’t enjoy it. Not trying to shit on the game but the number of disappointments with fighting games in recent years has made me a cynic. I want this game to be amazing but I also want it to be Mahvel, not TvC2/CxMCU. (Even though I liked SFxT)

So in light of all that - When’s MvC2 Online PC Edition being revealed?

I’m not gonna lie I’m disappointed the chaos of 3v3+assists is gone. But I’ll treat this as its own game and give it a fair shot.

I suppose it would be hard to do rivalries in a 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 game without forcing the player to pick only characters from Marvel or only characters from Capcom. They could at least have a different boss depending on the first character you chose though.

Online factions and unique tag abilities are both great ideas. Since its 2 vs 2 I hope to see specific tag moves from characters from the same game or universe.

It’s the whole “shiny” shading that they’re using.

That said, it still has more color than Injustice: Green, Grey and Orange Among Us.

Yeah flat is definitely the right word to describe the art style right now. If its true that its still really early in development though, hopefully over time they will add more flavour.

Some KOF games did it where you only got a story and ending if you completed the game with canon teams. If you picked a non-canon team then you got a generic (bad) ending.

I cant browse through the thread but… the 2v2 is confirmed?

Does anyone know if it will have crossplay?

Yeah, 2v2, no assists.

That’s right, wasn’t thinking about KOF. That would be the way to go then. I liked the idea of canon teams in SFxT, but those characters had a lot of history with each other so it made sense. It would be cool to see some of the weird teams they would come up with for a vs game.

Even if the story mode doesn’t end up being very good, I appreciate that the game will actually have a story like MvC3 was supposed to.

Yes

2vs2 and no assists

Haven’t you seen the gameplay video?

I more like the idea of friendships/alliances so you aren’t just limited to one canon team per character.

For example, She-Hulk and Hulk would naturally team up because they’re cousins, but Hulk would also team up with any of the avengers and She-Hulk could also team up with Juggernaut because… you know.

They boned.

Captain Marvel with that Foot Dive variation at 25 seconds

Disappointed about no assists but I’m still on board, no doubt game will look very diff in a few months

Can we get 8 way air dashes and flight please

That’s a better idea but it might take to much work. One canon team per character makes it easier to come up with rivalries.

Friends and Allies should at least have unique tag team moves though.

I’d like them better to team up a Marvel and a Capcom character together, like they did with X-Men vs Street Fighter:
Wolverine and Akuma
Rogue and Chun-Li
Gambit and Ken
Magneto and Bison
and so on.

That gives it a little more interaction to the idea of the crossover, I think…

For example, this could be:
Iron Man and Mega Man
Captain Marvel and Chun-Li
Ryu and Iron Fist
Captain America and Guile
I don’t know.
